The game in Elmhurst is a rout. The 'jays lead, 78-49, with eight minutes to go. Bainter has 18, Childs has 17, and McCurdy 12 thus far for EC.

EC 87, FU 60, with 2:53 to go. Only question now is whether or not Scherer's boys will hit the century mark.

Wheaton holding Wash U to just 5/15 shooting, including just 1/6 from 3 (I think they made their first one and that was it).

Meanwhile, Wheaton is 9/20.  They've also forced 8 Wash U turnovers with pressure defense.  Wheaton has 7... but at least 2 of those are unforced travels.

4:07 to go in the half.

Thompson misses a long 3 and Wheaton gets the board.  Jahns misses a 3 and Schultze gets called for the over the back.

3:29 to go, Wash U with the ball down 19-13.  Wash U air balls, Wheaton collects the board and Carwell misses a bunny but gets his rebound and then gets fouled with under 2:45.  He's on the line for 2, makes the first, that's Kelley's second foul BTW, and he makes the second.

A pretty long drought for Wash U now ends, Toth gets a nice baby hook,  21-15.

On the other end, a jump ball is called, arrow to Wash U.  about 2 mins to go.

And Thompson nails a 3, 21-18.

Carwell gets a runner to fall for Wheaton 23-18 with 1 minute in the half.   Toth misses a jumper and Detmer cleans up the board and makes the layup 23-20 Wheaton.  McCrary hits a 15 footer, 25-20 Wheaton.

Thompson hits a jumper with the time running down, 25-22.  Wheaton gets a 10 footer but they're short, and it's halftime.

25-22 Wheaton leads.

Wash U's shooting has improved to 9/22, so they made 4 of their last 7.  Wheaton is 11/26... which means they made just 2 of their last 6.

Wheaton led by 8, 21-13, and Wash U ended the half on a 9-4 run over the final 2:43.

Wash U is just 2/8 from 3 after making 9/16 and 7/11 in the first half of their last two games.

If I'm Wheaton, I'm pretty happy with that half. The "shock and awe" factor is gone; the Sonic Atmospheric Disturbance has demonstrated that it can hold its own against the #1 team in the #1 team's gym without the services of Kent Raymond and Andy Wiele.

Of course, Wash U has made a habit out of pulling away in the second half of games in which they were trailing or had a narrow lead at the half.

True, but they have struggled from the 3 just twice... once against MacMurry in a game that they could have won with 4 players, and once against IWU.  If IWU had made a bucket down the stretch, they very well might have had a chance.

We'll have to see if Wheaton can 1) keep up the defensive intensity and 2) keep shooting pretty well.

McCrary misses a tough shot but Carwell gets the rebound and bucket.  27-22 Wheaton.

Wheaton foul on McCrary, his second.  Kelly makes a layup 27-24.

Pierotti barely grazes the rim and Wallis scores a layup on the other end 27-26 Wheaton leads with just under 18:30 to go.

Panner gets free and scores for Wheaton 29-26.  Wallis nails a 3 as the Wheaton defender goes under the screen, 29-29 tie.

After some extended offense, Wheaton gets a jumper from Carwell  31-29.  Wheaton not backing down.

Perhaps we should call him Trapper Sean McEnwallis.

Three fouls on Zach Kelly early in the second half. That could be big.

Interesting... after the comments on the CCIW board about Wheaton not rebounding well, they're outrebounding Wash U by 2, including 6 offensive.

Oo, I dunno about that call...  A Wash U player missed a 3 and Kelly got the board.  He went up and there was contact... called offensive foul against Kelly, his 3rd with 16:45.

McCrary doesn't take advantage and misses.  Wash U tries to push ahead and they miss as well.

Wheaton nails their first 3 from Panner, 34-29.

On the other end Thompson gets a 3 of his own with a foul on Panner, his second, Thompson on the line for a Ft... that he misses.  34-32, 16 to go.

Panner misses a 3, Thompson does the same, Panner tried a tough shot and misses that one.

Toth then gets a baby hook and it's tied at 34 with 14:35 to go.

Carwell is called for an illegal screen as he floors Thompson.  I didn't see it but Thompson went sprawling.  Guess there are perks to being the preseason POY.

Detmer misses the 3 but Thompson tips it in for the lead.  36-34.

Panner then turns it over, stepping on the baseline.  13:49 to go.

Thompson misses a 3 and 3 Wheaton players surround the board.

Wallis called for a foul on the other end.  Just his first.

McCrary blocked by Thompson.

And on the ensuing play, Shackelford nails another 3 for Wheaton.  37-36 Wheaton leads.

Jahns fouls Wallis on the other end, on the floor.  13 mins.  Wheaton gets a long rebound ahead to Shackelford for a breakaway layup 39-36 Wheaton.  Smith misses a 3, Wheaton gets the long board and Shackelford almost takes a 3 but passes it at the last second to a filling McCrary who gets the board.  41-36.

Jahns gets Wheaton's 5th foul of the half and Smith scores for Wash U on the ensuing inbounds play.  Then Jahns gets it back by hitting a 15 footer, 43-38.

Thompson gets fouled on a blocking foul by McCrary, his 3rd Wheaton's 6th. With 11:minutes, that may be key.

Thompson nails both FT's, Wheaton leads 43-40.

Shultze gets the feed in the post but gets trapped and there's a jump ball.  Thompson tied it up.  And then throws it away on the other end to Carwell.

Panner gets fouled by Toth, he misses the first, makes the second, 4 point game 44-40 with about 10:30 to go.
