Larry U drops #2 Oshkosh in OT, and four more players join us in these shark-infested waters.

Mr. Ypsi

Three more teams went down tonite:

Christopher Newport (goodbye seahawks!)

#2 UW-Oshkosh (adios Winneconne_Legend, kek, titansrus, and cafan69)

#12 Ramapo (TTFN narch, hopefan, and Truck)

IWU, York, WPI, and Catholic won.

By my count, that leaves the four above, plus Amherst, Hope, Mississippi College, Puget Sound, Transylvania, and Wooster.  Corrections?

As fast as we are dropping, I'm wondering if the ultimate winner of the 'pool' might be a school NO ONE picked!

John Gleich

Cabs,

I'm not really sure how to prove this (or even if it CAN be proved, because so many variables exist from one game to the next, and a mathematical formula won't figure out the outcome of a basketball game)... but I'd be interested to know how many teams are still alive... and then I'd wonder if it's more probable that one of the other teams is the "survivor" than one of the teams we picked...

PS,
'
You're working your brain too hard - the teams still alive are those that have not lost a game.  Whether or not the 'winner' of the pool is someone already picked is obviously simply a matter of did the pickers omit someone who actually lasted longer than someone we picked.  The pool winner will be the survivor of THESE picks, even it if turns out that someone else wins out longer.

i.e., I will be a (co)winner if IWU lasts longer than anyone else, even if Va. Wesleyan wins the title, because NO one picked them.

I would love to see a Pool B team go 25-0 and not get a bid in the NCAAs.  I'd love to hear that explanation.

We'll go by date....since we were discussing how Amherst doesn't play again until December and Oshkosh just opened their season tonight, with some teams already playing 2 or 3.  So, date.  Any objections to that?

Oshkosh was lucky to get it into overtime, they were thoroughly outplayed.  My game review (i.e. roasting of Oshkosh) will be found on the WIAC page.

OS, this hasn't been the case in basketball (but is has in football), but any Pool B eligible school that DOESN'T recieve a Pool B bid is then thrown in the mix for a Pool C bid (the same way that teams eligible for Pool A automatic qualifiers are that don't recieve the AQ).

PS,

Yeah, I remember that that happens.  But, my point is that I'd love to see an undefeated team, no matter what pool  :D, NOT get a bid.

It looks like the Impalers have a couple of tough games coming up, I wonder how long I will last.  If all the teams left standing so far all lose by the start of the second semester do we start again with any unbeaten teams that are left and have a round two.  Of course another good contest would be to pick from the pools of the unbeaten teams and the always beaten teams to see who will keep their streak going the longest.  In other words will the last team standing be one that has no loses or one that has no wins.  I would suggest starting this if desired after the first of the year.

I have little doubt that you're just continuing a running gag, but just for the sake of accuracy, it's the Transylvania Pioneers.  They have Wittenberg coming to town this weekend, which should be a great game.  Kudos to both Witt and Transy for scheduling such a tough, early-season, in-region game.

Knightstalker

DC, you are correct, it is a running gag.  A few years ago several of us were discussing the proper name for Transylvania.  I believe it was Greg Sager who came up the the name Impalers and it has stuck with me.  What better name for them, possibly the Vlads?

That may be the 1st single digit loss to a d3 team for Caltech in  quite a while.
