Well, you know, technically once the ball hits the floor the rebound can't be given to an individual.  Maybe that's it.

This is not anywhere near true.

A deadball rebound is an accounting tool. Every missed shot must have a rebound, including the first of two free throws. That's where deadball rebounds come from.

Rebounds that are knocked out of bounds are team rebounds and are awarded to the team that is awarded possession.

I didn't say it was right, I just offered it as a possibility.  I guess once again the sarcasm doesn't work so well on this thing.  I apologize.

Ah, Hoops Fan, the thing is that there are some people, sportswriters even, who believe what you believe. One local sports editor around here is always 9 or 10 rebounds short of a full slate of them because of this.

I got into a heated arguement with the self-appointed statistician for a local high school, who gave a player a 'recovery' if they grabbed the ball after a missed shot after it hit the floor.

When I showed him an official NCAA box, he scoffed at it. Sigh...

Now, a deadball rebound can also occur after a shot clock violation (the ball is shot before the clock but the shot draws air and the buzzer goes off - it's a defensive deadball rebound) and if the ball gets wedged in the basket support or hits the shot clock or guide wire holding up the basket. Or at a heave at the end of the half.

And now that I've bored you...

Right.  That's exactly why I said it.  It was supposed to be a sarcastic remark about all the people who I've had tell me that at games.  However, sarcasm, when typed, just makes one look like a fool.

Going back to really weird boxscores, there were two really bad games in my CCC Conference last night with Anna Maria beating Eastern Nazarene and Wentworth beating New England College.  The crazy thing is that between these four schools, there were 178 rebounds!!

Hoops fan - that's a lot of iron. I bet the clanging sound is still resonating in the fans' ears today....

I'm very sad to report the Alma Scots have fallen off our list of winless vs D3 with a 64-56 win over Kalamazoo in Alma.

Caltech rediscovers its essential Caltechness tonight, losing at Occidental 103-40.  :'(

Ah, well, they were still high from the big win...

Either that or they have killer labs tomorrow...

yes, we lose Alma as I thought might happen, but Thomas More , Huntindon and LAverne all continue their losing ways.

Winless teams from New England play tonight  -  Albertus and East Naz play Emerson and Rog Williams respectively, with little chance to disappoint us.  Wad3 leader Green Mountain plays a very weak Newbury team, but it's doubtful that Green Mountain will get their first d3 win.

Maranatha Baptist lost to Whitewater earlier this week, 92-27...they were down 46-6 at half time.  At least Caltech scored 35 when they played Whitewater during the 03-04 season (though they gave up 123!)

East Naz loses by 37 to Roger Williams last night, and Green Mountain upholds there No 1 slot by losing at home to Newbury by 23.  That's a great loss, as Newbury appears to be ...AWFUL.

Albertus Magnus is not yet reporting their score, but if they play, it's a safe bet they lost.
