I'll take Otterbein.

Has anybody noticed how odd it is to see Salem State on the winless list?

I was shocked that they've been as successful as they have been in the oughts.  They've never really been on my radar, but they've been nothing if not consistet this decade.  Up to this year, that is.

Not just this decade, PS. Few people realize it, but Salem State ranks third in all-time D3 tourney appearances, behind Wittenberg and Scranton. Most years you can just write in their name in ink in your D3 tourney bracket before the season even starts. (You can also plan on them being out by the end of the first weekend of play, but that's another matter,) The Vikings have owned the MASCAC, lock, stock, and barrel, winning 23 of the league's 35 regular-season titles in the D3 era, including at least a share of the last 19 in a row.

That's just it.  They haven't made any noise in the dance and they haven't rattled off any ultra-impressive regular seasons either.  I'm just surprised there was a team that had been that successful in the regular season that I really didn't know about after a decade of closely following D-III.

Well, the Vikings did make it to the Final Four in 2000, a development that shocked the heck out of me. I don't think that any MASCAC team had ever even made the Elite Eight before that point. Of course, once Salem State got to its namesake town in Virginia the Vikings promptly threw up on themselves in the semifinals, losing to UW-Eau Claire by 28. Give 'em credit, though, for bouncing back the next day and beating Franklin & Marshall in the third-place game.

I think that that's the only time Salem State has ever made it out of the first weekend of the tournament.

The 2006-07 Salem State team went 24-2 in the regular season, 12-0 in the MASCAC. That seems pretty ultra-impressive to me. Of course, you have to make allowances for the level of competition.

I'll agree with that one, though your caveat is noted.

I was pretty high on Point that year (the basketball team, not the beer), as they also went 24-2.  I guess I should rephrase... I don't usually spend too much time focusing on teams that are BEHIND Point unless they're within about 8 hours of me.   ;) :P  That means my view is limited, which, since I've graduated and migrated back south to Illinois is convenient 'cause I don't have the same time to focus on things as I used to.  And as many of the teams ahead of Point (or ranked highly, in general) are within my local window, that limited view has some crossover!

Green Mountain falls off the winless list as they beat non D3 St. Joseph's (VT) 75-61 to avenge their earlier 87-82 double overtime loss to St. Joe's on Nov. 16th.

Salem State wins their 1st of the season 94-89 over the Babson Beavers.

When I looked at Sunday's matchups on my master schedule, I had to chuckle  -   it was the big game for winless fans.... our boys from UMPI vs the one team they handle year in and year out - Unity College... a tiny northern Maine school that specializes in Forestry....

it was on my schedule, it was on D3hoops schedue......    But no score....   alas, I went to both school sites... the game is off the schedule!!!!!

Mr YPSI can breathe a huge sigh of relief, and scour the schedule for UMPI's big games with Paul Smith's   -  I bet we can get the magicman to go to that one and get a live report!!!

A missing UMPI score - who'd a thunk it! :o ;D

That's the real reason I took 'em - they could win a game and no one would know for months! 8)

I've now lost my second-chance Survivor, even before anyone has suggested a second-chance Survivor competition!  (It was Wittenberg, thumped today at Hiram.)

I prefer to call it "the team I should have picked," and mine (RMC) is still going strong.

Paul Smith's rooster shows them with 10 players but I read last week that they only have 6 or 7 guys on the team.

Is this some sort of fortune-telling farm animal?

Paul Smith's nickname is the Bobcats, but perhaps this should be one of those instances like Auburn, in which the nickname (Tigers) is a different animal than the mascot (Eagle).

Too bad, as Bobcats is a pretty common nickname and therefore rather pedestrian. I don't know of any college team called the Roosters, which would be a pretty darn cool nickname.

Just in case anyone misunderstood, the UMPI - UNITY game was cancelled.  Because of the heavy interest  in this room, I emailed UMPI  -  Coach responded, Unity had to cancel

Unity probably had an emergency hacky sack tournament....or Phish was doing a secret concert up there.
