"Team I Should Have Picked" RMC plays Wooster tonight.  I could lose twice before the real competitors lose once.

Grinnell is a surprise. But I guess the system doesn't function if you can't shoot.

They lost a ton from last year.  And of course, in "the system," you're always on the cusp of getting trashed if your shots don't go down or your press doesn't create turnovers.

From the stats, it looks like both are happening. It's the perfect storm of things going wrong.

I just noticed this score from Sunday....

Maine Maritime 66   UMPI   63       :o :o

Too close for comfort, but you gotta feel for UMPI   -  not sure when their last D3 win was??

February 10th, 2007.  A 77-75 OT win over Green Mountain.

And that barely can be called a D-3 win. Wasn't Green Mountain in transition that year?

One of our undefeated teams, Cabrini, got beat last night by the Merchant Marine Academy   -   our unbeaten number drops to 11.

I'll also note that Maine Maritime (with the win over UMPI) and Milsaps (over Rust) have dropped off our winless vs D3 list, dropping that number to 22

We'll wait until next week to post a revised list.

Last night I saw Caltech play against North Park. CIT started a junior and four freshman, and the way the Beavers played, it is indeed a blue world for Caltech.

Rivier on Jan. 2 and Westminster on Jan. 3 appear to be CIT's best and likely last chances for a win this season. Although Caltech has an upcoming game against 2-9 UC Santa Cruz @ Cal Lutheran this Sunday, the Banana Slugs haven't played as bad as their record indicates, so I doubt CIT will beat UCSC. Unless there's sudden vast improvement, I don't see Caltech snapping its nearly 25-year, 287-game SCIAC losing streak this season.

Yes, but Conan Gu and the Beavers, if the freshmen stay with it, may one day crush their opponents, see them driven before them, and hear the lamentations of the opponents' cheerleaders.

Or win a SCIAC game.

That's Westminster (PA), by the way. Had it been Westminster (MO) that the Beavers were scheduled to play, their chances of a victory would be significantly lessened, as Westminster (MO) is the preseason favorite to win the SLIAC.

The scoreboard has Birmingham-Southern losing to Rust tonight; however, the score was mis-reported:

Birmingham Southern is still undefeated.

What's wrong, Prof. Pedantic, did you run out of posters to correct for writing preseason rather than nonconference?
