Sac    I'd have to doublecheck all the schedules, but that could be the last game this season between totally winless teams.....   Of course there will be many matchups if the winless vs D3 teams are included .  Hopefully this room will give the Kzoo-Bluffton game some publicity!!

Also no more battles of the undefeated, with Williams losing last night, a potential undefeated match up of Middlebury-Williams was taken away.....  RMC-EMennonite still looms....

hopefan,

They may not be winless by the time February 8th, 2010 rolls around but on that date
FDU-Florham currently 0-7 hosts New York City Tech currently 0-8.

Congrats, Ralph ... even though I can imagine how galling it must be for you to ride the Choctaw bandwagon to the finish line!
Thanks...

If McMurry wins the ASC-West, then we get the chance to face Mississippi College on our own court in the ASC Tourney.

I always want to win the last match-up with Mississippi College each season.   ;)

hopefan,
I have never seen Medaille play as they are in Buffalo and most of their non-conference games are in that part of the state, but here's what I can tell you.
That game last night between Medaille and John Carroll was a chance for Medaille to gain a measure of revenge for the loss they suffered at the hands of JC last March in the 1st round of the NCAA tournament. Last year's Medaille team was the best team in the school's history as they had a number of first ever accomplishments. The Mavericks hit 20 wins for the 1st time, finishing the season with a 21-7 record. It was also the 1st time they won the regular season championship of the AMCC and the 1st time they won the AMCC tournament title, which gave them the automatic NCAA bid which, as you may guess, was their 1st time to get to the dance. Their reward was to play a first round game at the 10th ranked(at the time) John Carroll Blue Streaks home court. That game on March 6th, found the Mavericks down by 16 with 8 minutes to play but they fought back to get within 5 with 1:50 left, before losing a 90-79 decision.
The Mavericks have 7 returning players who averaged at least 10 minutes a game last year including 3 starters. They are led by 1st team All-Conference senior forward Keith Hack(17.5ppg 6.2rpg) and 2nd team All-Conference guard Ricky Reed(10.5ppg). Sixth man junior forward/center Ron Malicki also averages double figures(14.2ppg 5.3rpg) They seem to have a solid 9 man rotation and average 79 ppg while giving up 64 ppg. They are shooting 49% from the field, 37% behind the arc, and 73% from the line. They out rebound their opponents 39-30 per game. What I can't tell you is how big or small this team is as their roster info doesn't give you any height or weight for the players.
While they are sporting a gaudy 11-0 record it is built on a schedule of some pretty weak teams. 6 of their wins have come against teams with losing records. The combined won-loss record for those 6 teams is 6-47 and include winless Cazenovia, and 1-13 Paul Smith's, the NAIA-D2 school  previously mentioned on this board.  The owp for Medaille is one of the lowest of all the ranked teams in KnightSlappy's pool C regional rankings.
However, beating John Carroll on the road  last night has got to be a great confidence booster for this team. Earlier in the year they played a pre-season game against Division I Colgate and hung with the Raiders the entire game before Colgate hit their free throws down the stretch to pull away 63-52. This team is going to end up with another 20+ wins and a possible return trip to the NCAA's. The question will be whether or not they get a pool C bid if they get upset in the conference tournament. If they do get in they will be a tough 1st round match-up as opposed to simply being cannon fodder for the usual D3 powers in the region.

One more thing to consider. When they lost to John Carroll last year, the Blue Streaks were ranked #10 in the Top 25 poll. Last night when they beat John Carroll the Blue Streaks were ranked #9 in the Top 25 poll. I guess the Mavericks learned something from that previous meeting. Will it be enough to get them some love in the next poll? Probably not.

Also worth noting. Bench points for Medaille 42. Bench points for JC 18. Medaille also won the battle of the boards 36-31 and outshot JC, percentage wise, from the field, beyond the arc, and from the line.

This has GOT to be a record - going from five to one in TWO days! :o

And thanks for keeping me in the other pool after UMPI was declared ineligible midseason. ;)  Innocent 'dupes' should not have to suffer! :P  They're still my favorite d3 sadsacks, d3 or not.  I'm tempted to send them the money to fly out to Caltech!

It would be much cheaper just to bus them down to Bard.

True, but Bard (and Eastern Nazarene) are not on my personal favorite 'sadsack' list.  That would be UMPI, Caltech, and Finlandia (no particular order).

(And Finlandia, at 4-7 and finally [due to my campaigning?] in the West where they belong, is in danger of becoming just a bad team, rather than a favorite sadsack! :P)

Would love to see Middlebury drop off that list next Tuesday when they host my hometown Plattsburgh State Cardinals. Middlebury hosted Plattsburgh 2 years ago and the Cardinals came back from a 22 point 2nd half deficit to win 78-74. Last year the Panthers returned the favor, when they traveled to Plattsburgh and won 68-64. This year Middlebury is off to the best start in the history of their program at 8-0 and they should handle a so-so Hamilton College squad today when they host the Continentals at 4 PM. The Panthers starting frontcourt of 6'10" 6'8" and 6'4" will be a challenge for the undersized Cards but hopefully Plattsburgh's quickness and up-tempo style of play will counter the height discrepancy. The only team the #7 ranked Panthers have beaten that has a winning record is RPI(6-2) and they do own a 79-57 win over a struggling St. Lawrence team(3-6) that is probably better than RPI. The game against Plattsburgh will definitly be the Panthers  toughest match-up of the young season. I expect the Cardinals to give them a battle but home court should prove to be the difference maker for  Middlebury in another close game between these rivals. Hope I'm wrong.

Chuck,
The attached link will help you keep in touch with with your favorite sadsack, UMPI.

http://www.sunriseconference.com/sport/7/2.php

After all we wouldn't want them to sneak a win by us now would we. ;) Especially with a huge return matchup against Maine Maritime on Jan 8th. (They only lost the 1st time 66-63) Then there's that guaranteed win on Jan. 23rd when Paul Smith's comes to town.  ;D

And the real reason you're tempted to fly UMPI to out to play Caltech is you know Caltech would win and I'd be out of the running before you lose by beating Paul Smith's. :P
