Mr. Ypsi

I could see someone staking an early claim for one, perhaps even two years, but permanently??!!  Is anyone that unmindful of turnover in college athletics? :D

Given the uncertainties of recruiting and who (unexpectedly) doesn't return to the team (not to mention off-season injuries), if someone wants to stick their neck out WAY early, I have no problem with it.  Though we might want to force them to stick with it if they do! ;D

All right. We can do this easily now. The undefeated has been settled, and the winless roll on.

Undefeated:

Whitworth (23-0)

Winless:

Polytechnic (0-23)
Philadelphia Bible (0-22)
Green Mountain (0-17)

Undefeated vs. D3 - See Undefeated. No special cases.

Winless vs. D3:

Maine-Presque Isle (6-14, wins vs. Maine-Augusta, SUNY-Canton, Fisher, Maine-Ft. Kent, St. Joseph's (VT), Maine-Machias)
Millikin (1-20 win vs. Robert Morris - Springfield)

Now let's scout the chances of remaining undefeated, or getting some redemption and salvation (Amen!).

WHITWORTH - 2 games left: at Whitman and at Pacific. Whitman is listed as a 94% chance to win per Massey, but Whitworth blew 'em out 104-71 at home. I think Massey was just being nice.

POLYTECHNIC - 2 games left: at Medgar Evers and home vs SUNY-Purchase. They just lost to Bard. Let me repeat. THEY JUST LOST TO BARD.

PHILLY BIBLE - 2 games left: home vs. Neumann and Immaculata. I'm not saying that it's impossible for the Crimson Eagles to win, as Immaculata is 9-14 and only beat Philly Bible by 9 at home. There is hope.

GREEN MOUNTAIN - 3 games left: at Lyndon State, at Middlebury, at Johnson State. They have been uncompetitive in all D-3 games. The Middlebury game will be interesting to watch - they aren't the "Wonder Five" anymore and have a full roster, but most of their roster make cameos now.

UMPI - No D-3 games left.

MILLIKIN - 3 games left: home vs. Wheaton, at Carthage, home vs. Elmhurst. The only glimmer of hope is the final home game against Elmhurst, though Wheaton only beat them by 14 at Wheaton.

Now, I think we need to actually set some order up here, otherwise, I could just put a permanent claim on a team for each season.

Of course, the charters of the original colonies also had claim to territories until time immemorial and were broken out by longitude, not latitude and ran across the continent. So it may not hold up for ever.

So what you're saying is, if I pick Western Connecticut, I don't get Case Western Reserve along with them anymore?

Sorry, but you may be able to appeal to William III (or Mary II - if you are smooth with the ladies)  for recompense.

How about a "right of first refusal"?

One can "hold" the rights to the same team the next year if they have declared the hold by 2 days before the opening day.  (If opening day is Nov 15th, then they need to declare the "hold" by 11:59 pm EST on November 12th.)

If they do not claim that team, then it goes back into the pool of eligible teams.

Thoughts everyone?

Two days seems kinda tight. Maybe we give 'em until a week before?

Or maybe we only give refusal rights to the Top 3 finishers (plus ties) in each category. Otherwise it might be too much to keep track of.

A week is fine with me.  The first picks started occurring around October 29th and 30th.

As for keeping track, the old posts have that.   :)

I was also looking at some stats and noticed that Green Mountain is #1 in the nation in one category - personal fouls.  They are averaging 13.4 fouls per game, and have had only 1 player foul out of a game all season!!

Down goes Whitworth!

So Massey wasn't just being nice. The thing is that you never know about conference games.

But, where have the touts and bookies in NESCAC-land put the line on the Middlebury / Green Mountain game?

My guess is that Coach Brown will go to his bench early and often, but his end of the bench players are going to be too tough for the Eagles. Middlebury hasn't hit the century mark all year and they've certainly played a few teams where that was possible. Coach Brown has always been a classy guy and doesn't like to rub it in. That being said it'll be hard to stop eager reserves from wanting to score. He'll make them run though their sets, use the clock, take a little air out of the ball, and they'll finish right around the century mark. I'm thinking 98-48 final.

Coach Brown did better than go to his bench early, he started his bench players. No  Middlebury starter even played in this game. 7 of the 10 Middlebury players that played in the game had the least amount of playing time on the team this year. Middlebury was up 39-24 at the half, which wasn't too bad, but Green mountain could only manage to score 6 points in the second half. Final score was Middlebury 74 Green Mountain 30.

That's the right thing to do. But then, when Green Mountain was going through purgatory this season, why was this game played anyway?
