can someone give a quick tutorial on how to get excel spreadsheet columns to line up neatly on a post... I was going to give the first list of undefeateds and winless, but did not have time to correct the mess that copied over.....

There isn't really a quick and easy way to do it unless you use formulas in your excel sheet to output your table with the table code:
[table]
[tr]
[td][/td]
[/tr]
[/table]

if you did that, then you could copy/paste directly here.

To do this in excel, move over a few columns from where your data is and type the following code into the first cell:

="[tr][td]"&A1&"[/td]"

where A1 is the first row in the first column of the data you wish to copy here. In the column next to that, type (unless you only want two columns, in which case jump down to the final column code):

"[td]"&B1&"[/td]"

where B1 is the first row of the second column of your data. Repeat this code for any 'middle columns'. For your final column, use the code:

"[td]"&C1&"[/td][/tr]"

"fill down" these formulas so that it includes each row. Then you can copy/paste the results directly here (you may need to surround the whole thing with the [table ][/table ] (without the extra space at the end) command).

It's also possible to paste your data around the teletype command: [tt][/tt] but this requires that all of the cells in each column have the same number of characters.

slappy... you're a real buddy for going thru that... didn't realize it would be that complicated... I'll give it a try this weekend, or may have my IS wiz son look at it and help me out....   thanks VERY much

I am very disappointed. I would have had MIT in the undefeated pool but left that to Hugenerd. What happened?

I was a couple days late. I posted on November 17 and the deadline was the 15th (see my original post below), so it appears my pick is not being considered for the official tally. No big deal, though, as long as MIT keeps winning I'm happy.

I know I'm late, but since no one has taken them, if its alright with you guys, I'll make my usual MIT pick for the undefeated list (as I have for the last few years).

Hugenerd,
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and add your pick to the list that's posted up above. (Reply # 3013, 12-8 at 3:55:49) You should have been added and I think it just slipped by everybody. And you're right you have had them for the past few years so it's not like you're jumping on the bandwagon now. ;) I'm not even going to give you an asterisk. ;D

Depending on how much you're copying and how much effort you want to put into it... here's how I do it for the football pick 'em
First I make sure the Toggle View button (far right button on the 2nd row with a red A) is unclicked, then I paste my spreadsheet stuff. Then I make the font for all of it courier so the spacing for everything character is even (although using bold can make it slightly off). It is helpful at this point to click the Toggle View button on to get a more accurate view of spacing while you're working with it. Then all you have to do is add/delete spaces to get everything lined up properly. Be sure to check occasionally with the preview button just to make sure it looks right (sometimes the post likes to add a space at the beginning of a line or not start a new line)

I'll take the Whitworth Pirates to be unbeaten and on the other side of the country I'll go Green Mountain Eagles to go winless
Speaking of asterisks and having a team for a few years.... FCGrizz taking my Pirates  >:( almost pushed me off D3hoops.com boards entirely  ;) (and on my birthday to boot), luckily F&M  :-* are keeping me on the ledge.   :-\

should Whitworth outlast F&M it might be an unstoppable -1 slide for Grizz.   ;D

Just bringing this forward since Mr Ypsi was shown the door as his Amherst Lord Jeffs took a pounding from a 5-5 Brandeis team 76-61. Now that's a shocker. :o

Hugenerd almost got eliminated a day after we let him in, as his MIT Engineers were tied with Tufts at 56 with 1:17 to play. But MIT's Kates scored a bucket and the Jumbos turned it over on their next possession. They had to foul and Kates delivered another dagger when he hit both free throws with just seconds left and the Engineers squeak out a 60-56 win.

Whitworth falls and FCGrizzlies is eliminated.

The Survivors left in the Survivor's Pool:

Shortened version

nwhoops - Franklin & Marshall
FC Grizz - Whitworth
Mr. Ypsi - Amherst
magicman - Middlebury
stagg44 - CMS
Hugenerd-MIT

Stinkers:

Point Special - Polytechnic
Knightslappy - Macalester
hopefan - Principia
augie77 - Millikin

Edited to add Hugenerd's MIT pick from Nov. 17th.

WOW - that IS a shocker!  I thought it was close to a 50-50 chance that you and I would be going head-to-head on Feb. 11!

Whitworth loses at HOME (streak snapped at 40) to Montana Tech (NAIA) by 10, 83-73.  Had a 2nd half lead and went cold for 5 minutes. A 14-0 run put the Pirates down 9 with 6 minutes to play.  Had it within 4 under a minute but MT hit free throws.

Go F&M!
