In Winless Pool action

Principia 0-23       Lost vs Eureka 86-54 on 2-16   51 losses in a row

Principia 0-24        Lost at Webster 89-67 on 2-18  52 losses in  a row  Final game tonight 2-19 at Westminster (Mo.)

Franciscan 0-25      Lost at Pitt-Bradford 67-52 on 2-16   51 losses in a row  Season is complete.

Barring an upset of epic proportion tonight it would appear that hopefan and sac will be co-champs of the Winless Pool.  Two excellent choices that ended up as the only winless schools left in D3. It will be interesting next year to see which of these schools is the first one to claim a victory and put an end to the losing streaks that are both over 50 games and counting.

I found something that would have formerly been of note for this board...

UMPI is one of the 12 colleges that aren't worth the money, at least according to this list.

There are some other current D-III schools, such as Lakeland (Sorry Old School!)
UWSP Men's Basketball

Who would have Ever thought that being a co winner of the D3hoops winless pool in 2012-13 would lead to this for Franciscan?       (Posted  on Franciscan site)

Franciscan University Basketball to play University of Kentucky

John Calipari, the University of Kentucky Men's Basketball head coach and John Lamanna, Franciscan University head coach, have agreed to play an exhibition game at University of Kentucky's Rupp Arena in November of 2014.

Calipari, who was a guest speaker at the Baron Club fundraiser, extended the offer to Lammana over dinner and then announced it to the audience at the Baron Club during his speech. Franciscan and Kentucky have been working out the details since.

"This is a huge opportunity, not only for the men's basketball program, but for the university," Lamanna said.

The University of Kentucky Wildcats, the 2012 DI National Champions, will provide the Barons with an opportunity to learn from one of the best basketball teams in the nation on any level, giving the Barons a once in a lifetime team experience.

"We talk about a championship experience in mind, body, and spirit here at Franciscan basketball." Lamanna said. "This is speaking to that experience where we are playing a previous national champion at the DI level and a potential future national champion at the DI level."

Exhibition games occur in the pre-season and allow each team to prepare for their regular season games by priming the players for competition. Typically, Division I schools host two exhibition games per year against non-DI opponents. Top DI schools such as Kentucky usually play top DII and DIII programs.

"It's a program changing opportunity that truly legitimizes us as a NCAA DIII men's basketball program." Lamanna said. "We'll be able to take some real positives from this opportunity."

With nine of their current eleven players freshman or sophomores, including forward Joseph Rine who is 5th in D-III in blocks per game, the Barons will field their most competitive team in recent history for the exhibition.

"It will be the best team we've had since I've been a coach here," Lamanna said.

The basketball program will also benefit from a fundraising standpoint. Division I schools pay lower level opponents to play in exhibition games. In the case of Franciscan University, playing Kentucky could be one of the biggest fundraising opportunities in the history of Franciscan Athletics.

The date for the exhibition game is yet to be decided but is expected to fall sometime in November of 2014. Tickets will be available as the game date grows closer

Just saw at my health club yesterday a player from my winless pick last year(Bard) diligently working on his game; however, I didn't interrupt him to talk about prospects for the coming year.

                                        PLEASE NOTE

Just a note to let everybody know that there will be a new method of selecting teams for the Undefeated and Winless Pools for this coming season.

Earlier this summer hopefan emailed me and suggested that we change the way that teams are selected for the Undefeated Pool since it has been sort of haphazardly done the past few years. Out of the blue someone decides to choose the Top Ranked Team in the Preseason Poll as their team which starts a run on the other top ranked teams and meanwhile a number of regular players didn't even realize that selections were being made. This has been done earlier and earlier it seems and this year I suspect someone will grab the defending champ on September 1st which will start a run on the other expected preseason favorites and by the time practice starts on October 15th all the good teams (and some that aren't so good) will be gone. Likewise the same applies to the Winless Pool.

So in an effort to make it fair for all players wishing to participate we are probably going to institute some form of a draft, for both pools. Details of exactly how and when the draft will take place will be posted on this board in plenty of time so everyone will be able to participate that wishes to do so. I imagine all the regulars from the past few years will be back and any new players will be welcomed as well. Stay tuned for further details as we get closer to the opening of the 2013-14 Hoop Season. In the meantime potential players should consider the choices they would most likely want in each pool. Several backups should be considered for both pools since very few players will probably get their #1 choice in either contest.

Sign ups for the contests will not begin until 12:01 AM on October 15th. At that time players can announce their intention to participate in one or both contests (Undefeated or Winless or Both) The actual draft will not take place until early November in order to give all schools time to post their roster along with their schedules, and also to give players plenty of time to join the contest as well as time to consider their possible choices. Draft details will be posted at a later date so stay tuned to this page and check in from time to time. It doesn't matter if you sign up on Oct. 15th or the day before the actual draft as that will have no bearing on what position you will get to draft your teams. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

I hope everybody agrees with this....  it's been a lot of fun the last couple of years... and this serves to make it fair for all for selection....  of course, I HOPE I still get a shot at Prin in the winless, but heck, there are many other loveable losers out there!!   Sign up early and spread the word.. And I'm sure Magic is open to considering any suggestions for the set up.....

SUGGESTION 1... Sorry, Hoops fan... D3 MEN's teams only!!!!!   ;D ;D ;D

Just so you're all aware, I'm just going to pick the team I think will go undefeated the longest and I have no qualms at all about other people making the same pick.

I will try to make it before anyone else does strictly for personal pride, but I'm really only doing so here so there's a public record of said selection.

Feel free to disparage or congratulate me as you see fit.

That is all.
