...Out of the blue someone decides to choose the Top Ranked Team in the Preseason Poll as their team which starts a run on the other top ranked teams ...
...This has been done earlier and earlier it seems and this year I suspect someone will grab the defending champ on September 1st which will start a run on the other expected preseason favorites...
...in order to give all schools time to post their roster along with their schedules...

I thought the unpredictability of when the selections start, the run on "best" picks, and complete lack of research or preparation was the entire fun of this "contest".

Damn, I was going to take Western Connecticut for the undefeated and Eastern Connecticut for the winless, but I guess I'll wait for a draft.

Apparently we're old school hopefan and our sense of fair play in ingrained into us because of the era we grew up in. ;) I could care less really, just thought your idea to give everyone an equal opportunity to have a chance at the better teams through a draft or something was a good one and would compensate for the players that have no chance at a decent team due to the early body snatchers. There may be others out there that want a draft and we still have time to get more feedback.

As the starter of the landrush last season I declare I have no problems with a draft. The question is how would positions be determined? Reverse order of results from last season (with expansion teams [new pickers] at the end)? Everyone send a representative to the League HQ to watch the ping pong balls drawn behind closed doors with the results announced live at halftime of a big football game? ;D

If you're really old school you'd remember it was never an exclusive draft.  Everyone was always free to choose the same school as someone else - and many years there were multiple winners.  It was just that some people had enough pride and, of their own volition, chose not to copy others.

There was never a rule about exclusivity.

of course, multiple winners with the same team would have to split the prize money... and who would get the trophy?  ::) ::) ::)

Threaten to split it in half, and which ever winner would rather the trophy stay in one piece instead of be split is the true mother, er, winner?

For me, the REAL fun is when we get down to brass tacks and move from the contest portion to the WILL THIS TEAM WIN / LOSE A GAME portion...

Didn't seem like we had too many duplicates last year but if we go down that path again - just have folks indicate the game they think their team will lose (or win) and the score on that game - so even if 2 folks pick the same game their points won't likely match up.

with all that said, I'm fine with a draft too.

Greek Tragedy

I would prefer to wait for Friday, Nov. 1 at 12:00 am to have any selections made official. If you want to be up at that time, more power to you.

Picking teams in August is a bit much, IMO.

I suppose I wouldn't mind a draft either. Its September 4, we have plenty of time.

grudgingly going along with a draft

..but the defending champs should get first picks.  (just throwing that out there ;D)
