Speaking of Anna Maria.  Check out their stats in this box score from the weekend.  It's the craziest thing you've ever seen.  All five of their starts had 2 points each.

Got it to UT-Arlington!  Thanks Hugenerd!

:D :D :D :D :D (Takes one to know one!!!  :D ;D :D ;D ;) :) 8) )

QuoteCalTech -> Bard -> Anna Maria -> Newbury -> Mass. College -> Johnson State -> Green Mountain -> Paul Smith -> Suny Canton -> Niagara CCC -> Cayuga -> Suny Cobleskill -> Hudson Valley CC -> Erie CC ->> Prince George's CC -> Baltimore City CC -> Potomac State College -> WVU Tech -> Myers -> Heidelberg ->
-> Otterbein -> Maryville TN -> Emory -> Sewanee -> DePauw -> UDallas -> Southwestern -> Hardin-Simmons -> UTDallas -> UT-Arlington!

Corrections appreciated!

Here is the chain from UT-Arlington to UCLA (surprisingly not that long)

UT-Arlington -> North Texas -> Rice -> Colorado St. -> Kansas St. -> USC -> Oregan -> UCLA

Alternatively you can get to Duke (or probably any other team in DI with a loss) with this chain:

UT-Arlington -> North Texas -> Rice -> Colorado St. -> ND State -> Marquette -> Duke

Final Chain getting from Caltech to UCLA:

CalTech -> Bard -> Anna Maria -> Newbury -> Mass. College -> Johnson State -> Green Mountain -> Paul Smith -> Suny Canton -> Niagara CCC -> Cayuga -> Suny Cobleskill -> Hudson Valley CC -> Erie CC -> Prince George's CC -> Baltimore City CC -> Potomac State College -> WVU Tech -> Myers -> Heidelberg -> Otterbein -> Maryville TN -> Emory -> Sewanee -> DePauw -> UDallas -> Southwestern -> Hardin-Simmons -> UTDallas -> UT-Arlington -> North Texas -> Rice -> Colorado St. -> Kansas St. -> USC -> Oregan -> UCLA

So that proves that with 36 games of separation, CalTech is better than UCLA!

Thanks but I'll stick with knowing the Cal Tech kids are smarter. ;D

It looks like Myers' surprise win over the 'Berg sets the whole thing up.

But I checked, and while Potomac State lists a win over WV Tech - the offical WV Tech site shows no such thing, neither is it listed on Massey.

Could that be a win over the WV Tech JV??

Sac  -  if you're still around   -    what about Alma  -  are they worse than ever   -  can they get a win in the league?  Will they get off our winless vs D3 list?

Also curious what you can tell me about Steve Hettinga - he coached at Olivet and then a GR semipro team  -  he's now down at MacMurray down here in the SLIAC and they've gotten off to a very good start after being pretty weak the last several years   -  was he successful at Olivet?

Ladies and Gentlemen,

        I really appreciate the kind words about my postings and my site.  Sadly, I don't get to attend as many games as I did while on campus (I now live about an hour away), but the move from the NEAC to the Skyline will help tremendously with that.
Interestingly, the Raptors are a respectable 1-1 at home so far (all but two of their first 11 games games were on the road).
It's a frustrating season- the Raptors had a couple of recruits that would've stepped right in up front, and they both were undisciplined and left the team totally overmatched inside.
I think it is a testament to the quality of the Raptors that merely beating them gets Cal Tech mentioned on ESPN, NBC Sports, and the LA Times.

Bard might be the worst team in America.  I've been saying that for years now.  They did get a win over Anna Maria, but that was only because Anna Maria looked past the game, having already beat Bard pretty easily at the beginning of the year.

I think ENC will get a few wins before it's all done.  They have Anna Maria twice and Daniel Webster, which is just atrocious.

Caltech has looked better the last few years and now they have validation that the worst team in d3 does not reside in southern California, but in the Northeast.

"Bard might be the worst team in America.  I've been saying that for years now.  They did get a win over Anna Maria, but that was only because Anna Maria looked past the game, having already beat Bard pretty easily at the beginning of the year."

This is simply not true. In the first Anna Maria game, Bard was ice cold from outside. In the second, they weren't red hot, but merely good. And that was enough to beat Anna Maria. The second time around, three of Bard's starters were also not playing in their very first college game.

A bigger reason Bard is not winning more games early, besides playing all but two at home, is that teams are looking past the rest of their schedules and gunning for Bard, the former HVMAC champion.

Raptormania!

In addition, it's hard to imagine how Bard was the worst team in America for years, when they've posted 4, 9 and 11 victories during that time. Top 10? No. But no objective analysis shows them as the worst team- and when the schedule is played out, even this year's bunch won't be there.

Well, we'll have to see about the second half of your last statement.

Very true. I'll go out on a limb, and predict a split of the next two games (vs. SUNY-Purchase, at Polytechnic), and overall no worse than 2-3 in those two plus the home game against Caz and the home and home vs. D'Youville. They'll also win the home game against winless PSU-Berks, and one no one expects them to win, when their shooters come out firing. My fearless prediction is five wins in a rebuilding year- they won't even be worst in their conference, let alone in America.

+1, Raptormania!  :D

Mr. Ypsi

In (tepid) defense of Bard, I'd put them 6 pt favorites over Principia! :P

Speaking of bad teams, the OTHER long-awaited showdown from this weekend is still not up on scoreboard.  I speak, of course, of the 'Championship of Northern Maine': Presque Isle vs. Fort Kent!  I assume the sled dogs have yet to reach the nearest telegraph station. ;)
