This has GOT to be a record - going from five to one in TWO days! :o

And thanks for keeping me in the other pool after UMPI was declared ineligible midseason. ;)  Innocent 'dupes' should not have to suffer! :P  They're still my favorite d3 sadsacks, d3 or not.  I'm tempted to send them the money to fly out to Caltech!

It would be much cheaper just to bus them down to Bard.

True, but Bard (and Eastern Nazarene) are not on my personal favorite 'sadsack' list.  That would be UMPI, Caltech, and Finlandia (no particular order).

Since Eastern Nazarene's new head coach, Jim Aller, is a friend of mine, I'm actively rooting for the Crusaders to get off the schneid and leave this list. But it won't be easy; the cupboard was left completely bare prior to his being hired in the off-season, and he entered the 2009-10 campaign well aware of what he would be up against this year.

Mr. Ypsi

My pick of JCU on the original survivor pool made it to 6th or 7th place, but is now starting to look like the worst selection since the Pistons took Darko! :-[  They are now 1-4 in the last two weeks, hitting rock-bottom (?) today with a 22-point trouncing by a Bethany team that recently needed 2 OTs to beat (2-9) Denison!

Thought I might be in trouble today as the 2-5 Rivier Raiders from Nashua N.H. traveled out west to play Caltech. But the Beavers came through and after staying close for the 1st half blew it wide open by getting outscored 36-23 after the break to remain winless. Beavers get another shot tomorrow when they take on the Westminster (Pa.) Titans who sport a 2-9 record.

So perhaps you can indulge me with some inside info.  Do you think he's planning to be there for a while?  It just seems like a coach with his background might be looking for a better situation in the future.  What do you think?

Man, I hope the Bluffton University Beavers can get off the winless list soon.  The remaining HCAC schedule doesn't offer much hope but Bluffton usually plays tough at home.  Go Beavers!

Old request but I figured out how to do it. Typing 8) no longer triggers the smiley.

Just noticed that one of my SLIAC teams comes off the winless vs D3 list  -   Greenville beats Dominican last night....

Believe it or not, non SLIAC readers, I forecasted a conference championship for Greenville  ... but then they lost a starting Guard who transferred to Wheaton and a starting big man who was rumored to be at SIUE, and they haven't been able to put it together yet....   not a whole lot of depth on most SLIAC teams....

Caltech lost to Westminster. CIT has a game against Chapman on Wednesday before opening the SCIAC season with its 25-year, 287-game conference losing streak intact. Having seen Caltech play twice, I'd say prospects are not good for a victory this season.

... where he's seen a grand total of fifteen minutes of varsity playing time and received DNPs in seven of Wheaton's eleven games -- and this for a team that has a much-commented-upon lack of depth.

Ideally, a student-athlete transfers from one school to another for reasons that are not exclusively related to sports, and in Ben Cochran's case I especially hope that this is true -- because he has gone from being a key starter for Greenville to a superannuated scrub who's way down on the depth chart for Wheaton.

unbelievably, the only story I heard was that he wanted to go to a school that had a shot at a National Championship....  Ideally, he could recognize his mistake and come back for his senior year......   Maryville had a kid do that, started as a frosh, went back home to his local school St. norb's for a semester his soph year, then came back to Maryville.  I really do think most kids would rather play at Greenville level than sit with no chance at a Wheaton level....   Though it surprised me when I saw Wheaton as the one smaller starting guard didn't appear to be playing any special role......  I guess there is just that much difference...... Ben was an exciting, though somewhat out of control, player for Greenville.
