F&M still surviving... this Transy game worries me though. And then UWSP has a tough game of it's own at St Thomas on Friday. Get off your butts and play a game Middlebury :P

I had a look back to see where in the order the remaining teams were picked... F&M went 1st, Middlebury 10th, and UWSP 19th out of 21. In the winless pool Principia 2nd, Franciscan 3rd, SUNY-Maritime 6th, Caltech 7th, and Elmira 13th out of 18

I hate to say it, but FCGriz's thought brings up an interesting concept for next year... enlist in the contest by such and such a date, then be assigned a draft order based on this year's finish.. draft would be held right before season's openers, times would be assigned for each draft participant to get his pick in etc...  in reality, the way we do it now isn't quite fair if you didn't happen to be on the site on the right day....it would make thing's tougher on this year's winners..

That may be it. A lot of us scrambled to get picks in because it was 'open' all of a sudden.

Pool games on Tuesday night.

Albertus Magnus lost at D1 Yale  112-63 and the Undefeated Pool is down to 3 players. Greek Tragedy's run comes to an end.

Franklin & Marshall defeats Mount St. Joseph 66-63 at Transy's tournament. The Diplomats will now face Translyvania on Wednesday at 5:00 PM.

That may be a tough one for the Diplomats. Wooster definitely had issues at Transy. I still don't get how Transylvania lost to Manchester at home...

I came up with an idea that I thought I would post next year, but seeing as how you guys started a discussion about a draft order, I'll throw it out here now.

Rather than have a haphazard start to picking our teams, which is what has happened the last few years, I propose that no one can choose a team before a certain date. Since practice starts on October 15th for most schools and the first real games don't occur before November 15th, lets, for the sake of argument, choose a start date of November 5th. By waiting until November 5th, most (not all, but most) schools will have posted their rosters and schedules. That will still give us 10 days before the season starts and plenty of time for any poster to join the contest. This would eliminate someone deciding on Oct 3rd that he wants a certain team and he's claiming it on that date which would then start a mad stampede to grab a team. I would propose that no one can draft a team before 6 PM on November 5th. This would give everyone the same chance to choose whatever team we all think will be the preseason #1. First guy to post that choice after 6 PM would get that team. 10 seconds before 6 PM would make the pick invalid. At least this way everyone would know when the contest will start. We'll all have the benefit of rosters and schedules to look at and make a more well informed decision.  I don't like the draft idea only because it could pose problems if several people involved in the draft don't show up on time. Sometimes you're hanging around for way too long waiting your turn. By doing it the way I propose it's first come, first served, but at least everyone knows the starting time and can act accordingly. Several postings on the board, in advance of the start up date, would give all players a heads up. Just my thoughts on a way to make it a little fairer for all.

Well it certainly will be a mad dash at the appointed minute!!!! ;D ;D

In the draft proposal, I was thinking everyone would have an assigned time..

ie
Smed picks first between 6:00 and 6:10.. if he or a rep doesn't pick then, he flops to the bottom

Sager has 6:10 to 6:20
Magic 6:20 to 6:30 and so on...

it would be complicated, but might be fun..

But your idea is certainly fairer than the unannounced start.....

I like hopefan's idea more.  Knowing my luck I'd submit my post at 5:59:59 which would make it invalid and wouldn't know it until I logged back on and my team would already be chosen.

Then in the scramble to pick a new team, all my other choices would be selected as well.

It should also be mentioned that the "only one person per team" rule was never really a rule.  It was sort of strong-armed in the last year or two when the numbers of people involved increased.  It seems like the first time we did it there were only seven or eight of us and probably only five total teams chosen.  This idea began as a simple guessing game - "who will be the last team to lose."

Honestly, I feel pretty responsible for changing the culture; I just hate to share credit.

We could go back to the way it was before and just let people pick, even if someone else already has the team you choose.

I don't think we've ever had an issue of picking a team that was already taken.  It's not like it was 'illegal" to do so, but what fun is it to pick a team that's already taken!

You guys obviously take this a little more seriously than I do! LOL.  I didn't put much thought into it, honestly, as shown by a team I picked playing a D1 team before Christmas.  Oh well.  I have no problem on a draft order or just a free-for-all.  It gets a little complicated if I don't make a pick in 10 minutes and then get shipped to the bottom.

We can see how dedicated everyone is by "opening up the pool" at some odd time like 2:18 am on Nov. 18 and see how many people post.  I'd find that amusing.

I will have to say Oct. 19th was pretty early.  I didn't get mine in (or basically look at this page) until Oct 29th and 20 posters later! LOL

I love this idea. It's like the d3boards.com version of the Oklahoma Land Run of 1893. Last one to get his Conestoga wagon over the state line is a rotten egg!

The problem with a draft is that it shoehorns everybody's schedule into a fixed time, regardless of what is happening in our real lives. (And, yes, I realize that I'm being generous when I imply that the people who frequent this room have real lives. ;))

I'm even up for Tom's idea of setting the start time for our Oklahoma Land Run at 2:18 am, or some other kooky hour. Then we'll see who the real freaks are!

Transylvania knocked off Franklin & Marshall 86-73... F&M shot 63% (27 of 43) while Transy shot 59% (30 of 51).

I say we eliminate Middlebury due to inactivity ;)

C'mon Grizz, part of choosing wisely is knowing that your team gets a nice long break. ;D
