I love this idea. It's like the d3boards.com version of the Oklahoma Land Run of 1893. Last one to get his Conestoga wagon over the state line is a rotten egg!

And that's exactly what I was thinking when I was posting my suggestion. Tom's idea of a 2:18 AM starting time is frostng on the cake. ;D

Updated Players list with teams still in contention through 12-19:

UNDEFEATED POOL

Five players started the week but losses on 3 consecutive days have left us with our final pairing as hope1 squares off against magicman for the title. Ironically, both remaining players are rather fortunate to be where they are. hope1's initial selection was Hope but Ralph had already taken them. He then took Stevens Point and stayed with the Pointers despite an offer from Ralph to let him have Hope. Good move. 8-)  The magicman wanted Middlebury, since he won with the Panthers last year, but 5 minutes before he went to post his choice Ronk took Middlebury right out from under him. magicman then chose Amherst, grumbling that Ronk got his team, and when hopefan interceded, Ronk offered to switch picks, which magicman jumped all over. ;D So hope1 has a silent partner in Ralph and magicman will share bragging rights with Ronk should he repeat. This contest could reach a conclusion on Friday night as the 5th ranked Pointers travel to #4 St. Thomas for an 8:30 PM match up. These teams have played 5 times in the past 4 years with the Tommies holding a 3-2 edge. Interesting to note is that neither team has won on the road in that stretch. The extra meeting occured in the 2010-11 season in the NCAA tournament Elite Eight at Augustana when the Tommies prevailed 66-64. I'm hoping that home court advantage holds true for at least one more meeting. ;)

I love this room by the way.

It's one of the few I check every day at this point in the season.

It's a lot of fun.. I often wonder if players are aware of it... I would think it would fire up guys on the winless list to a huge extent.... We usually try to make a big deal of that first win, especially as the numbers on the list decrease.....

Your odds of retaining your title as Undefeated Pool champion are even better than you're probably aware, O mighty prestidigitator. UWSP's star Tyler Tillema (18.5 ppg) missed UWSP's last game due to an injury, and his status for tomorrow night is questionable.

John Gleich

FWIW... Stevens Point was only beating Whitewater by 3 with Tyler Tillema. Without him, SP won the second half by 8 points... and the game by 11.  So... SP - TT + 3 = SP + 8?

Honestly, I wasn't surprised that Tyler Tillema didn't play against Edgewood. He was hurt enough not to return in the second half of the Whitewater game. An additional week off of the ankle seems like it would make sense, especially because SP was playing then 2-7 Edgewood.  I guess we'll see how really bad the injury is... if Ty is dressed tomorrow.

With one exception, these UST vs. UWSP games have been absolute battles.

3/7/09 NCAA Tournament Round 2 BOX #4 UWSP @ #1 St Thomas    UST wins 53-50. This was a 1 point game with 0:21. Neither team led by more than 6.  UST lost to Wash U in the Elite 8, who would go on to win the National Title.

12/29/09 Regular season BOX  #2 UST @ #4 UWSP   UWSP wins 78-56  UWSP led by 6 at the half and by as many as 28 in the second before settling to the final margin.  UWSP won the National Title. UST lost in the first round.

12/22/10 Regular Season BOX   #4 UWSP @ #9 UST   UST wins 61-54   Point led by 5 at the half and by as many as 12 in the second half, but UST outscored UWSP 31-17 over the final 13 minutes of the game. UST won the National Title.  SP lost in the sweet 16 (see below).

3/11/11 NCAA tournament Sweet 16 BOX  #9 UST vs #3 UWSP at Augustana    UST wins 66-64    UST led by as many as 10 in the first half and 5 at half time. They led by 11 with 7:03 but UWSP fought back and tied it with :17. UST scores with :04 for the victory.   UST won the National Title.

12/22/11 Regular Season BOX   #13 UST @ #18 UWSP    UWSP won 72-66   UWSP led by 10 in the first half but only 2 at the half. Point extended to a 15 point lead early in the second half, but UST fought back and cut it to 2 with :39 left (could have been 1... UST missed a FT). Point then sealed it from the line.  Point lost in the first round, UST lost in round 2 to Whitewater, who went on to win the National Title.

Only 1 game in Pool play Thursday night.

Franciscan lost at Waynesburg 95-44 to remain winless.

The Barons next game is against winless (for the time being) Muskingum. The Muskies play at John Carroll on 12-26 and at Waynesburg on 12-29. Unless they win one of those games it could be the 0-11 Muskies at the 0-10 Barons on 1-2-13

UST knocks off UWSP, 68-63.

Congratulations to magicman, the undefeated pool winner!  (Nice strategy - pick a team that hasn't played since, what, August? 8-) ;D)

In reference to that backhanded compliment, :o may I remind you of this strategy that you put forth not to long ago. ???

Aha - my strategy for next season!  Find a team that due to some (not yet known) scandal will cancel their season! ;D  A record of 0-0 is still winless, right! ;)  Then I'll pick the same team for undefeated!  What a coup - one team, both titles! 8-)

I have nothing more to say about my team's 22 days of inactivity. ;D

Nice win, magic ... and nice jiu-jitsu on the Ypsilator in that last post of yours. ;)

So now the focus is on the undefeated with no gnashing of teeth about the contest. Still, the winless...alas.

how about a contest picking the order that the remaining 9 undefeateds drop off...  if it appeals, Magic, I'll leave it to you to set it up...  it will take a little study time....

magicman, I assure you that my comment was pure jealousy - because I didn't think of that strategy until for NEXT season!  Middlebury HAS won eight games, and despite such opponents as Green Mountain, Southern Vermont, and Johnson State, not ALL of them were against schools for the blind and schools for the lame. ;D

I'm gonna pass on that one hopefan. I've got enough study time with my SUNYAC conference and the Pick Em League. ;D

Sorry hope1, you fought the good fight, but my Middlebury Panthers have been working hard the past 2 weeks getting ready for their stretch run to win back to back UNDEFEATED POOL titles. Now they learn there is no stretch run. As they call in the horseracing world, it's a walkover. When I spoke to Panthers Coach, Jeff Brown back on Nov. 25th, he assured me the team would do all they could to help me climb back to the top. Turns out being idle for 2 weeks was just what the Coach ordered. Of course none of this would be possible, the prizes, the ticker tape parades, obligatory trips to all the talk shows, and visit to the White House, without my top assistants,  ronk and hopefan.
