I don't think you actually win unless they are really the last undefeated team - just because no one picked the others doesn't mean they still can't last longer than Middlebury.

Being my first time through this, I was actually wondering whether it was by calendar or by record.  Midd is 8-0 and UWSP got to 9-0 before their first loss, if Midd were to lose their next game magicman still gets the victory even though UWSP had more wins before their first loss?

It is by calendar year.  We're trying to pick the team that will be last to lose.

Sometimes we win, other times no one picks the winning team.

We'll see how this year pans out.

Magic has beaten all entries in the contest.. he has won the contest.... the name of the contest dictates calender.. it's the survivor pool.. who survives the longest

I'm not letting you rain on my parade. :P  We started with 21 players. Everyone else's team has lost. My team hasn't. I won the contest, end of story. ;D

If Middlebury should lose and one of the unclaimed teams is still undefeated, that won't alter the fact that I won OUR contest. I mean that's what our contest was all about. Choose a team, be the last man standing. It just so happened last year that when I won with Middlebury, the undefeated teams still in the running at the end were also claimed by other players. Middlebury not only won OUR contest, The Undefeated Pool, but also the survivor pool. This year that remains to be seen if they'll win both.

Thanks to hopefan who posted while I was typing my reply and backed me up on this. ;D

You lasted longer than everyone else, I'll give you that.  We'll see about the rest come March (or come NESCAC play).

It is the survivor pool - he wins. It doesn't matter if Middlebury loses every other game this season. Kudos!

Now, we wait to see about the rest.

Ah, see, convince a team not to play anyone but jakes and frauds (or the dregs of the weak sister conferences) until January and then pick them. (Or, as we call it, the Syracuse schedule (of course they lost to Temple today (HA! HA!))

A couple days ago Franciscan survived a scare by Waynesburg and hung on to lose 95-44 and could only field a team of 7 players.

Franciscan is off until Jan 2. when they play 0-10 Muskingum.  The Muskies travel to Waynesburg just 3 days earlier for a nice comparison.  Vegas waits in anticipation.

Principia and Franciscan both have 35 game losing steaks at the moment.....

Thought I'd start an official survivor pool this year.  I remember someone having a pseudo pool last year that also involved who would be the last team to win a game, let alone lose a game.

I believe I could Identify 'someone' above, who has also registered the same opinion ;) ;) ;)

Ran into a guy wearing a Bard(my choice in the winless pool) basketball t-shirt today at my health club; told him they were my choice in a d3hoops pool(didn't mention it was the winless pool) but I was eliminated when they beat Albany Pharmacy in their 1st game; he took it good-naturedly; said their record was 2-3 and have been held back by injuries to some starters.
