Mr. Ypsi

hopefan,  your status in the winless contest is on shaky ground. :P  Blackburn got an 'honorary win' last night by staying within 50 of the IWU bench! ;D

Man, I can't believe Franciscan, my pick, not only lost the contest the first weekend, but is now off the winless against d3 list too!  I thought they were a lock for another 0-fer season, or at most a win against a Bible college.  Break up the Barons! ;D

Cabrini hosts Wesley on January 2nd.  After that they're not losing a game the rest of the year.  They've beaten pretty much all comers so far.  I'd think they're the best bet for this thing.

They have an 84% change at (Hello) Neumann, 86% chance at Gwynned Mercy and 87% at Keystone.

Scratch Wabash from the winless list - they beat Trine in OT, 67-65.

Westminster(pa) gets off the winless list with a win over PSU-Altoona 82-71

I may find some time to take a look at big games coming up for each of our teams, but right now, let's look at what the remaining contestants in the winless contest face:

Three teams remain.. with four contestants

Blackburn.. my home conference SLIAC team... is far and away the long shot remaining in the contest.. if all their players return 2nd semester (I've heard a rumor contrary to that), they will be very competitive in several conference games due to weak conference teams Iowa Wesleyan, Principia, Fontbonne, and possibly even Eureka... Additionally, Blackburn's home court is one of the matchbox sites in D3, tough to come in and play...  Blackburn played on its home court and took 3 OTs to lose to a decent Rockford team... and lost at home by 5 to Iowa Wesleyan .... The game to really point to is on Jan 11 when Principia comes to Carlinville.. Prin has won only once, the fabled streak-stopper over Millikin... But, they may have high scoring guard Larry Patterson back for second semester, which will make them much better...

Wheelock..  selected by Smedindy... is a solid selection... but like Blackburn, they're in a weak conference, the NECC, where victory can very easily bury a perfect season ... They have yet to finish within single digits against anyone they've played, but really only have been blown out (more than 20) in one game... and to their credit, they've played a solid schedule, only one  opponent to date is under .500.  Their conference schedule features a matchup with equally winless Newbury on January 18, and also includes potential close games with the likes of Lesley and Elms

Cairn... Selected first by FC Grizzlies, then by Greg Sager... BIG BIG favorite to take this contest.. a shame duplicate picks were allowed to generate split winners....  Cairn plays in a far more competitive conference than Blackburn or Wheelock...  the CSAC... but they do have Oberlin on Jan 4.. unfortunately Oberlin is far more competitive this year than usual... I can't see Cairn getting a win over the Yeomen... they have Bryn Athyn on Jan 27, but Bryn has already shown they can beat D3 teams with wins over Delaware Valley and Lancaster Bible.  The next weakest Conference opponents appears to be Centenary who is just 2-8, Who have a win over Immaculata, a team that already beat Cairn....

Suggestion... Perhaps Greg and Grizz should select a tiebreaker winless team should Cairn win the contest... selections limited to the current winless list not to include Wheelock or Blackburn... 2nd selector (time-wise) can't match the first selector's pick.. need to get in pick prior to games of Dec 28

Well, I'd like to take a homer team... but I can't go with Anderson when they still have two against both Manchester and Earlham. They're bound to win at least one of those. I guess I'd go with D'Youville. Their game against Franciscan is worrysome but it's not till February.

No word from Greg on a tie breaker... hoping we'll hear from him.....

I'm thinking we'll lose one of our undefeated teams today as Defiance plays at D1 Oakland.... if it happens, they'll move over to our undefeated vs D3 only list...  Oakland is only 4-10, and two of their wins are against non-D1 schools... but they recently lost to Michigan State by only 4 points....
