I'm not a betting man, but I have a strong suspicion that Monmouth is going to be a much better team this year than it was last year.

Hence 'sometimes'.

Also, coaches polls can be janky because they may just slap 'em together. "Who was good last year; yeah, pick them..."

Is it too late for me to choose Wittenberg as my winless team?  ;D

Did anyone see UMPI beat a real D3 squad last night.  Well, Maine-Maritime might not be "real," but they are d3.

Maine-Maritime is not good and the reason I chose them.  The only threat is a game with Maine-Augusta on Friday, one of their only two wins from last year.  The other was Univ of New England who they already lost to this year. :(

UMPI beat Maritime last year but by only 7.

Pine Manor picked up its second win last night, perhaps setting a record for speed in which a win-less candidate reaches 2 wins. :-X

When I  first saw they got their 2nd win, I was going to chide Grizz for choosing them in the wrong pool...he should have picked them for the Undefeated Pool...but then I spotted that loss in between those 2 wins. ;)  Still as sac said 2 wins in their first 3 games is probably a record.

I had Maine-Maritime last year and they were humming right along losing like they should until then they ran into the Moose from Maine-Augusta. The Mariners beat them 82-74 and I was done. So yeah, this upcoming game could make or break you sac. For what it's worth Presque Isle only beat visiting Maine-Augusta by a score of 66-63. They hammered Maine-Maritime on the road by an 86-67 score, so you may be safe this time.

I'm shuddering with every post that hyphenates Maine Maritime. Maine Maritime and Wisconsin Lutheran (which I have seen many times) are not hyphenated. They are not the University of Wisconsin at Lutheran or a merger of schools named Maine and Maritime. :)

I feel the hyphen helps to accentuate that Maine-Maritime is a part of the larger public university system of Maine.  It's a public school and the hyphen helps people recognize that almost immediately.

The hyphens are used to denote branches and the locations of the branches- like UMass-Dartmouth, Michigan-Dearborn, our beloved Penn State branches or Wisconsin-Oshkosh. When I see Maine-Maritime I think of the University of Maine located in a town called Maritime.

Mass Maritime and NY Maritime aren't hyphenated either.

It's hard to keep track of the hyphens, Pat. You have all the Penn State schools that use hyphens as well as SUNY schools that use hyphens and they aren't a merger of two schools. Plus when you are posting on a page where prior posters have used hyphens with the school and you post something about the school it's real easy to follow suit.

But hey I promise to do better in the future...I don't want you to shudder every time I get a little hyphenated. :D

Those are location hyphens Magicman, not merger hyphens.
