Mr. Ypsi

Cairn came off the winless list just a few days ago.  Tonite, Baptist Bible edged them, 58-56, to come off the list themselves.  Cairn and Baptist Bible are a combined 2-26.

Cairn got off the list by beating Immaculata, who had been in first place in that conference.

What has me worried is that Massey has their home game against Franklin on Valentine's Day as their best remaining chance to win (only 26% and probably will drop with Franklin's win over MSJ today). Grizzlies did win the first match 95-82 which is the most points Earlham has scored this year.

I doubt many will get the joke, but LOL and +1 anyway.

Not qualifying for the list from day 1, but worthy of mention...

Check out the low level D3 NEAC conference standings.... knock me over!!!

Lancaster Bible leads one half of the standings... after getting beat in the first game of the season by +20 points by Messiah, they have run off 14 straight wins!!!   LANCASTER BIBLE!!! A WIN STREAK OF 14!!!!

And SUNY-Cobleskill leads the other half of the league... only a few years ago they threatened to be the winless team of the year until they pulled out a one point win vs Cazenovia...

Noticing tidbits like this is one of the things that makes following D#hoops so much fun.... has there been an article about Lancaster Bible on these pages?   If not, there should be...  who goes there?  How did they get so good (granted relatively speaking)?  They were 4-22 2 years ago and had a major turnaround to 22-9 last year..
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Lancaster Bible's streak got a mention in the last Around the Nation column by Rob Knox.

So Marietta is the last team standing. Congrats to the Pioneers!

This is my list of teams that were the last ones to pick up losses in each of the last ten seasons. The date of their first loss is noted in parentheses.

2015: Marietta (TBD)
2014: Cabrini (Feb 15 at Baptist Bible)
2013: WPI (Feb 10 at Springfield)
2012: Mary-Hardin Baylor (Jan 21 at McMurry); MIT (Jan 21 vs. WPI)
2011: Whitworth (Feb 15 at Whitman)
2010: Randolph-Macon (Jan 13 at EMU); Medaille (Jan 13 at Pitt-Bradford)
2009: St. Thomas (March 14 vs. Washington U in the NCAA tournament Elite 8 at Wheaton)
2008: Mass-Dartmouth (Feb 9 vs Keene State)
2007: Amherst (Feb 10 at Trinity, Conn.)
2006: Lawrence (March 10 vs. Illinois Wesleyan, NCAA Tournament Sweet 16)

If anyone has any corrections, please let me know. We'll post this off the front page at some point.

Couple other tidbits:

* Only once in the last 10 years has the last team standing in the regular season been the last team standing in the post season. Amherst won the title in 2007 with two losses (Trinity and Williams in the NESCAC tournament final).

* Randolph-Macon was one of the last two teams standing in 2010. On the down side, RMC lost five more games in the regular season. On the up side, RMC went all the way to the Final Four.

* The most common result for the last team standing is a loss in the NCAA tournament's second round, which happened four times.
