ok Magic... here's the game plan... we get a Dickinson win over Swarthmore, and a Whitworth win over Whitman on 12/6... and it's the 2 seniors vying for the undefeated championship on 12/8  hopefan (Babson) vs magicman (Amherst)   ...woohoo!!!!  ;D ;D ;D

hopefan,
I like that idea. It has all the makings of a well thought out plan that has real possibilities. I certainly hope we can get a little magic and have it fall into place. Of course, we know all about the best laid plans stuff and how that usually works out.  ::)

Amherst has games against Emerson this Saturday, then plays Brandeis next Tuesday, December 6th, and on paper, should win those games. Babson, however, could run into a stumbling block along the way. They play in a 4 team tournament at Brandeis tomorrow and Saturday. They meet Salem State on Friday while the host team, Brandeis, takes on Tufts. If things go as I think they will, Tufts and Babson will square off on Saturday for the title game of the Big Four Challenge. Tufts may be better than either Babson or Amherst.

The Jumbos now have the services of last year's leading scorer, Vinny Pace back. Pace didn't see any action the first 2 games of the season, as he was recovering from a knee injury that took him out of last year's NCAA tournament about 20 seconds after it started. He played 20 minutes off the bench for his first action of the year back on Nov. 22nd and led the Jumbos with 15 points and 6 boards as they beat MIT 74-66. He had a team high 23 pts and 5 boards against WPI a couple of days ago in a Tufts' 75-71 victory.

A #3 vs #2 matchup, should be a good game to watch. I think my Cardinals will just be finishing their game on Saturday when the Tufts-Babson game (should that occur) will be starting at 4 PM.

If we are fortunate enough to be undefeated when we go head to head next Thursday night, you need to PM me your phone number. A matchup that grand demands actual back and forth conversation as it plays out. ;D I'll definitely have to root for Babson if they play Tufts on Saturday. ;)

I figured we'd both drive a distance equidistant from Plattsburgh, NY and Eureka Mo.... Cleveland Ohio fits the bill nicely, and watch a stream of it together!!

My younger sister just happens to live near Cleveland,  in Vermilion just 35 miles from the big metropolis. So yeah I could do that.  ;D

Yep... Cleveland would be virtually equidistant according to Google maps.... ;)

Well actually if Magic drove down to Parma Heights, it'd be a little more even, but I won't quibble over 10 miles... He'll get a lot more snow than I will.... ;D ;D

Mr. Ypsi

hopefan, magicman, why don't you compromise on Vermillion?  I'm sure Magic's baby sis would be delighted to put you both up - probably even provide popcorn and adult beverages! ;D

So I went to Swarthmore today.  As I said, I'm almost always bad luck for the home team.  The score went back and forth a little in the first half, but Dickinson got a small lead and held it most of the game.  Swarthmore is definitely the better team, but Dickinson was playing a lot better today (although their coach said he thought they played terrible after the game, as coaches are prone to do).

Anyway, Swarthmore wears the lead down in the final few minutes, but Dickinson got some fortunate bounces and finds themselves up 4 with 8 seconds to play.  Swarthmore brings the ball up the floor - I'm unsure of exactly what happened since it was on the other side of the court from me - I think a Dickinson player tried to steal the ball and committed a foul, but the Swarthmore player got a shot attempt off and refs awarded three FTs with 3.7 seconds left on the clock.

He hit the first and missed the second.  The intentional miss looked like it was going to deaden on the back of the rim and flop off in the wrong direction, but they got a lucky bounce and a tap and a corner three with three defenders jumping at the shooter.  Tie game.

Swarthmore played excellent in the extra time and won the game.  I'm still alive.

Pretty fun afternoon.

Quite a miraculous comeback for your team. I saw the play by play and how they hit the 3 pointer with their final shot in regulation to send it to overtime.

You should buy a lottery ticket this week.  ;D

For the most miraculous comeback in all of DIII this season, so far, take a look at the final 1:55 in regulation of the Brockport State-Old Westbury game from Nov.23rd. Brockport was down by 13 points with 1:55 left and somehow tied the game and won it in overtime. Most amazing is they had to score twice in the final 5 seconds to tie the game. Here's a link to the play by play:   http://www.d3hoops.com/seasons/men/2016-17/boxscores/20161123_3m4e.xml?view=plays

The Brockport coach told me how poorly they played for most of the game but had the ability to turn it on when they needed to. It was quite a comeback.

See also my writeup of the Eureka at Spalding game on the SLIAC board... Eureka down 9 with 1:08, outscores Spalding 14-2  to win by 3... even more amazing, Eureka's Kendall Davis has 2 3's, 2 2's and 2 fts in that time span.   Spalding missed 6 of 8 fts to help Eureka...

hopefan,
Per your request for corrections...Williams has a loss to a DIII team (as you should know because you correctly picked that DIII team, Wesleyan,  to beat them in the National Pick Em League this past Saturday. ;D) The Ephs were on the short end of a 72-62 final score.  http://ephsports.williams.edu/sports/mbkb/2016-17/releases/20161203w9mcko

Incidentally Williams has only that 1 loss. They do not have a loss to a non-DIII team.

I thought your date generated macro download???....picked up the Williams' Women's record which is identical to the Men's team at 6-1, but the women also lost to a DIII school, Montclair State.

hopefan

Thanks Magic... and why that error.... my program got confused because it correctly didn't include the Wesleyan-Williams matchup as a conference matchup (it was their nonconference game)...and didn't put it anywhere... corrections will be made  .. it did the same for Occidental, who had a nonconference game with Caltech, but I caught it... ;)
