Whew, I'm still alive with Wooster... another squeaker, C.O.W. slips by Oberlin 112-53

Oberlin manages to keep their streak alive as well.

In other news... York beat Albright by 17, so the... Yorkies... stay on the list and the... Albies... are dropped.

Speaking of being dropped... St. Thomas drops Gustavus Adolphus from a second story window and annihilates the Gusties (I KNOW I've got that one right!) 87-51.

UT-Dallas 57, Schreiner 55.

This does not seem to be the same UT-Dallas team that I saw play McMurry over Thanskgiving or contend with IWU during the opening weekend.

Schreiner's best chance at a win for a month will be Dec 14th at Austin College.

It's certainly original. I've never heard of a basketball rout being compared to defenestration. I like it!

Ralph - I thought UT-Dallas played hard against IWU, but Alma looked pretty bad against Wabash and I was surprised they lost there. (I didn't see that game as we had a little football playoff game going on).

York goes on the road and beats a ranked opponent.  Fight on, Peppermint Patties!

Greg, that's the first I've seen the word "defenestration" in months, if not years.  For using it in a sentence properly, I "applauded" you, bringing you up to 19.

Oddly enough, my daughter and I had a discussion the other day as to why there was a need for the word 'defenstrate', and we couldn't really come up with a good reason.  Now I know that the answer is, "So that Greg Sager could use it on Posting Up!"

"Good" news for our adopted little sisters, the women's team at CCNY.

They only lost to Hunter 71-31. Next up is 5-1 Baruch.

Smed,
I was surprised that Alma beat UT Dallas as well, given the performances we'd seen the night before.  There's a lot of talent on UT Dallas.  But on Saturday Dallas just never seemed in the game, and Alma followed their game plan almost perfectly.   Another example of why they play the games. ;)

Aside from this word's prominent role in Greg's linguistic armamentarium [;)], there was a famous historical incident now known as the "Defenestration of Prague."  Who'd have thought a simple act of throwing someone out the window could start a war lasting 30 years (oddly enough, its called the Thirty Years War, 1618-1648). You can look it up.

From Wikepedia:

The Second Defenstration of Prague

Some members of the Bohemian aristocracy were effectively in revolt following the 1617 election of Ferdinand (Duke of Styria and a Catholic) as the King of Bohemia. In 1617, Roman Catholic officials ordered the cessation of construction of some Protestant chapels on land which the Catholic clergy claimed belonged to them. Protestants, who claimed that it was royal, not Catholic Church, land, and thus available for their own use, interpreted this as a violation of the right of freedom of religious expression as granted in the Letter of Majesty issued by Emperor Rudolf II in 1609. They feared that the fiercely Catholic Ferdinand would revoke the Protestant rights altogether once he came to the throne.

At Prague Castle on May 23, 1618, an assembly of Protestants (led by Count Thurn) tried two Imperial governors, Wilhelm Graf Slavata (1572 - 1652) and Jaroslav Borzita Graf von Martinicz (1582 - 1649), for violating the Letter of Majesty, found them guilty, and threw them, together with their scribe Philip Fabricius, out of the high castle windows, They fell some 15 m (50 ft), and they landed on a large pile of manure. They all survived.

Roman Catholic Imperial officials claimed that they survived due to the mercy of benevolent angels assisting the righteousness of the Catholic cause. Protestant pamphleteers asserted that their survival had more to do with the horse manure in which they landed.

I guess they should have done some advance scouting of the locations (like pick a tower WITHOUT a big pile o' manure right outside the window).

I can only imagine the aroma. The horror! The horror! :o

So was the First Defenestration of Prague when they threw the manure out the window?

So to summarize last night's activity:

Of the 28 undefeated teams, 10 played last night - 6 won to stay unbeaten (Woo, York, Auggie, Maryville tenn, Hampden Sid, and Chapman)
4 lost, reducing our undefeateds to 24  -  those losing were Keuka, Albright, Grinnell, and the Gusties.

Ot the 36 winless, 9 played.  Six continued their losing ways, but Texas Dallas and Washington &Leee won, jumping off our list.  Looking for a Maine Presque Isle result.  We'll call it 34 on our winless list.
