serious question   -  did they play 5 on 5 when Immaculata was good, or 6 on 6  (the old 3 offensive, 3 defensive)?   Did college basketball ever dictate the women's game to be 6 on 6???

Good question. I'll go out on a limb and say 5 on 5.

unbearable

I'm almost certain the three national championships from 1972-1974 were 5 on 5.

My mom's an Immaculata alumna.

I dimly remember when (or rather that) Immaculata was a power; dimly, because my memory is poor, not because I'm not old enough.

unbearable, [applause] for the correct number, gender, and spelling of the word "alumna."   :)

Whe Immaculata won their three national championships, they did so under the aegis of the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women. At the time, the NCAA apparently wanted no part of women's basketball (they changed their mind in 1982 -- perhaps because they realized there was some money to be made?).

It would be interesting to hear about the 50's 60's early 70's women's game  --  anybody with knowledge chime in

On the subject of our perfect teams, I looked ahead to Saturday's games - a large number of our teams are in action, with some very interesting games to keep our eye on

the big one of course is Witt vs Woo
also undefeated Hamilton vs undefeated Middlebury
Illinois Wesleyan may have to work hard at Wash U
Undefeated CMU plays at Union - a very tough game for CMU
Maryville Tn plays Transy  - I saw Transy - they're pretty good

in the winless group

Winless Hiram plays winless Oberlin
Immaculata could play Williamson Trade School (loser bracket in tourney) - they could get a win
Webster could get a win vs Lincoln Christian

The Hiram / Oberlin game may be a race to totall winlessness.

You must be talking about Titan2000, who's at -98 or something like that. The only reason I notice his karma is because he whines about it all the time. He's pretty obnoxious, so I really don't understand why he gets his knickers in a twist over people smiting him all the time.

Let it be noted that he is an Oshkosh Titan, NOT an IWU Titan! ;)

Cynic! ;)

And thereafter it took them less than 3 years (if I recall correctly) to squeeze the AIAW out of existence.  Back in those early days, nearly ALL the powers were schools that fans of only men's sports had probably never heard of!

When I think of women's basketball, I think of the Wayland Baptist University Flying Queens.

I have a picture from 1922 of my maternal grandmother, who was a school teacher, coaching girls 3-on-3 basketball in the cotton field beside the community school.  The girls are dressed in full skirts, with hats and lace-up leather shoes!

Sadly Warren, I'm sure the it was because the NCAA felt there was money to be LOST if they didn't take on women's basketball.

hopefan----Keep an eye on Hope v Aquinas,  8-0 Hope.....vs local rival.....one starter possibly out for Hope.   Hope won the first by just 1.  This could be a tough win for Hope.

He jumped on the Lawrence bandwagon last year too.  He's just basically anti-Pointer.  You see his personal quote at the bottom of his posts?  Real classy.

Hope and CMU win to stay undefeated, but Potsdam loses at Alfred and Chapman falls to Whittier.  Our undefeateds are down to 20

Winless Immaculata, D'Youville and Pac Lutheran stay that way, but Ithaca graduates, beating St Lawrence.  Winless at 25  My previous count was off by 2.

Interesting  maybe someone can say why  - it appears Wilkes pulled out of the RIT tourney very late  -  listed as postponed on their schedule, even tho a facsimile of the tourney is being played with only 3 teams. They were to have faced undefeated Oswego.  What happened?
