They were to have faced undefeated Oswego.  What happened?

They had to pull off I-81 and turn the bus around, because there was a rumor that a 6'8" College of Charleston transfer was in the vicinity and needed a ride to the Wilkes campus.

This was on the Wilkes website:

Wilkes Unable To Travel To Rochester Due To Inclement Weather
The inclement weather that hit the Northeast on Friday has forced the Wilkes University men's basketball team to call off their scheduled contest for Friday and Saturday.

The men's basketball team was scheduled to travel to Rochester, New York, to participate in the Brodie Memorial Tournament at the Rochester Institute of Technology on Friday and Saturday. Unfortunately, the Colonels were unable to make the trip due to poor travel conditions. They will attempt to add two contests at a later date to take the place of the two games they will lose from the tournament.

The Hiram / Oberlin game may be a race to totall winlessness.

Advantage Oberlin

Mr. Ypsi

Is it too late to pick Hiram in the 'last no-win' sweepstakes?!

Hope won today, and doesn't play again for 3 weeks - the rest of us may be in trouble!

smedindy

Actually, Oberlin lost, not Hiram. Oberlin is ahead in the race for total winlessness.

Oberlin dressed eight, had three players play 40 minutes. They had a six point lead at the half and were outscored 44-27 in the second half.

Yes; hence the "advantage" to Oberlin.

On the plus side, #2 Wooster stays unbeaten, winning an 86-83 thriller over #3 Wittenberg on an NBA three with 0:04.1 remaining.  There's a fairly complete, albeit frenetic, play-by-play in the Great Lakes Region board for those who may be interested.

Mr. Ypsi

I surrender!

I totally misunderstood sac's post.

So, is it too late to jump on the Oberlin bandwagon, or didn't we end up with a non-winner pool anyway? :(

David Collinge

I see that Immaculata has been deflowered, defeating Williamson Trade 62-55.  The first win ever for the "Mighty Macs."
Too bad they didn't ask us to suggest a nickname, I think we could have done a better job.

No, we didn't, but I swear, if I wasn't incredibly busy, we could arrange to meet Feb. 4, 2006, for the rematch at Oberlin.

We'd go quaff some beverages, of course, before that one.

(Though Oberlin does play 1-8 Washington and Lee on the 30th).

York falls, leaving (if my notes are correct) just five contenders in the pool: Amherst (5 picks), Hope (2 picks), IWU (4 picks), Wooster (Point Special), and WPI (Old School).

Amherst is 6-0, faces Emmanuel, then is off 'til Jan 2/3 when they face Pomona-Pitzer and Occidental.  Should certainly be 7-0 on New Years Day; may well be 9-0 when they meet Williams.

Hope is 9-0, faces Lakeland, but shouldn't be challenged 'til they may meet JCU on Dec 29th.

IWU is 6-0, should easily handle Illinois College, then faces Hanover and Puget Sound.

Wooster is 8-0, next demolishes Westminster, then tackles Baldwin-Wallace, either Lycoming or Thiel, and faces 'New Jersey' (I have no clue which team that is!) on Jan 6.

WPI is 9-0, and is now off until Jan 5th - then they face Babson, Clark, MIT, and Fitchburg.  On Jan 14 they play @ Springfield.  Perhaps it is only my limited knowlege of East/Northeast d3 bball, but I think WPI may well be this year's St. John Fisher, except I think they will lose on Jan 14 (if not before).

The College of Wooster plays the College of New Jersey on Jan. 6.

Mr. Ypsi

David,

Forgive my stupidity, but there are so many colleges that include 'New Jersey" in their name - this is Knightstalker's  New Jersey?

David Collinge

I think Knightstalker is a supporter of New Jersey City University's Gothic Knights, not the (College of) New Jersey Lions.

Sure, that's what was on the website.  That's what they want you to believe.  As always, Greg Sager was right on top of things.  The real reason was that the transfer from the College of Charleston has finally arrived!  In an attempt to save him for 2nd semester, Wilkes is foregoing all further 1st semester games, be it under the auspices of wintry weather advisories, stomach flu, monsoon, or alleged academic ineligibility.

Regrettably, York finally took a tumble.  Inevitably someone had to take a bite out of the Peppermint Patties.  Feel the rush!
