Ohio Northern faces three teams over the next 10 days.  These teams have a combined record of 18-3, and the latter two of them are road games.  Should they survive the first two (vs. #21 Baldwin-Wallace, at [#26] John Carroll), they then travel to Springfield to take on #3 Wittenberg, who will be off this whole time and will be ravenous to get back in the win column.  This could be a rough fortnight for the Polar Bears.

Not much activity with our undefeated or winless lists.

One team fell off the undefeated vs D3 list last night, Baruch losing by 3 to Kings Point.  Interesting result, in that the two teams appear to be the leading contender in their respective conferences  -  the CUNY and SKY

Current count
Undefeated  17
Undefeated vs only D3  12
Winless  20
Winless vs only d3  14

Hopefan...

I'm trying to figure out your list here, but I'm at a bit of a loss.  How can there be 17 teams undefeated, but only 12 undefeated against D3?  Or does your list imply that the 17 undefeated are also undefeated against D3 (so that number is actually 29 instead of 12?)

Same goes for the winless... is the winless vs. D3 actually 34 strong?

Thanks, and keep up the good work!

Point Special   Undefeated and winless means TOTALLY undefeated and winless.  The 2nd catagories mean undefeated against D3, but with a loss outside of D3 (ie to NAIA, or D1, D2), and winless against D3, but with a win against a non D3.

Hope that explains... I'll track teams that fall off the lists and list couunt each day, and print updated lists after each weekend.  We had fun with it last year, and I enjoy following and compiling the lists.

I will tell you that the only team on the winless list that surprises me is Goucher.

Gosh ho the Gophers have fallen.

Can Gophers actually fall given that thye live underground?

WPI is 9-0, and is now off until Jan 5th - then they face Babson, Clark, MIT, and Fitchburg.  On Jan 14 they play @ Springfield.  Perhaps it is only my limited knowlege of East/Northeast d3 bball, but I think WPI may well be this year's St. John Fisher, except I think they will lose on Jan 14 (if not before).

Mr. Ypsi, you are predicting that WPI (9-0) is going to lose on Jan 14 to Springfield (1-7)?  Hmmm, seems a bit off to me.  I think you got another thing coming.  Springfield has lost close games to some quality teams, but I can't get over the fact that they're 1-7.  I think it'll be a good game, but I don't think you can outright predict a WPI loss there.  WPI has beaten some of the same quality teams.  When it comes to clutch time, WPI excels.

Well we may have found (accidently) one of the worst men's teams in the country, in Unity College, who played Maine Presque Isle and Maine Maritime this weekend.  they lost to Maine Maratime 73 - 23.  Maratime has beaten Unity twice, by 50 and 40, and not beaten anyone else, tho several of their scores have been competitive.  We struggled to find the Maine Presque Isle vs Unity score, and it finally appeared today.
Maine PI  103  Unity 49.
MAine PI entered the game 0-7, and were averaging a losing margin of over 40 points per game.  Unfortunately, Unity is not D3, so we won't follow them, but if anyone does see a score, these pages are where to report it!!!

Anyway, Maine Presque Isle graduates from our winless list, moving to our winless vs D3 list.

Just FYI, to keep things shorter, we tend to abbreviate the Maine teams as ME-*****, here in the North East.  ME-Presque Isle sure is bad, but then again I hear they have three black bears and a cougar on the roster, so they might be doing pretty well with what they've got.

The problem is while those bears are tough on D - they get into foul trouble a lot.

Out of curiosity, I looked up Unity College on the internet, and found that it's a a college emphasizing the environment, with about 500 students, 2/3 of them men. They have this to say about their basketball program:

Quote
The Unity Rams continue to steadily improve over the last few years. The squad is know for their aggressive and hustling brand of basketball. The team competes against some of the toughest USCAA, NAIA, and NCAA III competition in New England. Unity plays in the Northern Division of the Yankee Small College Conference. The squad traditionally opens its season hosting the Unity College "Tip-Off" Tournament. Look for our hoop squad to continue its search for playoff success.

Those "toughest" teams against which they compete include Central Maine CC, Eastern Maine CC, Nortern Maine, CC, Southern Maine CC, and ... sorry ... no Western Maine CC. Must not be up to their high standards of competition.

I think they are wise to advise us to look for the squad to continue its search for playoff success.
