Old School  -  wonder why Rockford is on that path - as I remember, they were an NIIC contender just tow years ago and had over 20 wins twoyears before that.

The three best players for the Regents last season are no longer with the team, and their replacements aren't nearly as good. There's only ten guys suiting up for every game, eight of whom see appreciable playing time. The only player on the team taller than 6'3 is a spot-up shooter who plays on the perimeter rather than in the low post.

As I said in the NAthC room, my guess is that the coach has found himself in a no-win recruiting situation because the school is in such bad shape. Rumors are widespread that Rockford College will not survive in its current incarnation beyond this school year. What I was told by a couple of college administrators familiar with the Rockford situation is that the school's only hope may be a bailout by Northern Illinois University, which is located in the town of DeKalb about fifty miles southeast of Rockford. The idea would be to keep Rockford College, which from its inception has been a private independent school, alive as an honors-level branch campus of NIU.

I've seen the Regents, and while they are nobody's idea of a good D3 basketball team -- not by a country mile -- I don't think they'll end the season sitting on Hopefan's list of 0-fers. My guess is that they'll garner at least a split with Maranatha Baptist this year, and I think they'll also manage to steal at least one win against somebody else in the NAthC.

Several more teams dropped off our list of unvictorious by winning in the last several days including Maine Presque Isle, Fitchburg, and Skidmore

So our list is down to 12

Northeast   :  Albertus Magnus (0-8) (Albertus and Emmanuel play twice),  East Nazarene (0-8)  (lost several close games to weak schools, things get tougher),  Emmanuel  (0-6)

East  -  no more candidates!!!

Atlantic -  no more candidates!!!

Mid Atlantic :  PSU Berks (0-7) (should get wins in conference)

South :  Louisiana College (0-8) (lost to Schreiner last night - tough schedule left),  Thomas More  (0-7) (should get wins in conference)

Midwest :  Principia (0-6)  (average loss by 42, but SLIAC will present opportunities to win),  Rockford (0-6)  (Marantha tonite)

Great Lakes  :  Adrian (0-5) (4 of 5 were close)

West :  Caltech (0-5) (average loss by 38),  Concordia Moorhead  (0-7)  (including 3 ot losses),  Whitman (0-6)  (ot loss, 3 other losses by less than 10)

Hope you're right Oxy, but I do note that the last time Caltek played Santa Cruz, the Slug won by 50 (two years ago), yet they finished 6 - 19.  As you know better than I (I've never seen Caltech play), you must have to be way DOWN to lose to Tech

Mr. Ypsi

Rocckford goes down to victory (67-56, I believe), and falls off the list.

I knew they didn't have a chance against Marantha  -  didn't know what hit 'em...   Down to 11 left.

So with Louisiana College's win, We're down to 10

PAT COLEMAN  - if you read this, D3 hoops has the Schreiner - La Coll score backwards, with La Coll winning - they LOST to Schreiner, but indeed came back to beat  TexLu   (maybe they thought they were going for 2 in a row..... :D)

In what would have passed for a stunning upset in past years  (maybe this year too), we lose another from our list of the winless as Whitman beats Biola by 2, 71-69.   We are now down to 9.   Adrian and Caltek both play today, and Adrian and Thomas More have games during the week, but the other 6 are going home for the holidays as firmly planted members on the list.

Oxybob commented that Caltech's best chance of victory may be versus Bard in January.  That is a loser's game of epic proportions.  Bard has only one win (where they sqeaked by Anna Maria by 4), with 8 losses, most pretty decisive.  And Anna Maria has only 2 wins, one of which was another matchup with Bard.

Given the fact that Biola is a perennially strong team from the excellent GSAC (NAIA-1's best league), and Whitman tends to be one of the NWC laggards, this still qualifies as a stunning upset. However, Biola (6-4) does appear to be a little down this year.

Adrian and Caltek both lose on Sunday to keep the list at 9  -  Caltek upped their average a snig by losing to Pacific by 41

Hopefan, I think that LaCollege loaded the score incorrectly.

T More stays on the list with a solid loss to Centre last night.
