All of us in New England lovingly refer to them as Mainiacs, which is considerate when you figure that Massachusetts residents are referred to as Massholes and those from Connecticut have a similar name, albeit without the 'M.'

Mainers?
Mainans?
Mainanites?
Of all of the Mainanite Universities, that must be the most eastern.

Eastern Mainanite University!

Some scholars claim that the Mainanites are one of the "Twelve Lost Tribes of Ancient Israel."

Thank you -- someone finally gets it! :)

But not me

Oh-oh, Coach. Maybe you've recently spent too much time in the Northwest Conference room ....   ;) (Those bozos wouldn't know a Mainanite from a Canaanite or a Mennonite from a hermaphrodite ... er,  Aphrodite.)

There was a Presque Isle road Swampgoon and I drove on in Marquette, Michigan on the way to the Pointer/Northern Michigan game...

There are a couple other Presque Isle's in Michigan..........

Presque Isle County.............located in Northeastern lower peninsula it boasts a population of 13,473.  If its not the smallest Michigan county its pretty darn close.  The county is named after a small village that was located on a small peninsula jutting into Lake Huron that fits the definition of "Presque Isle"......almost an island.

It has 2 light houses named Old and New Presque Isle, a Bay named Presque Isle Bay, and a portion of the "island" is named False Presque Isle and has False Presque Isle Bay.

The county is home to the only natural waterfall in Michigan's lower peninsula Ocqueoc Falls.

Presque Isle Park
..............located on a small chunck of land extending into Lake Superior, the park is a nice attraction to Marquette and nearby No. Michigan Univ.  It to is "almost" an island.  Marquette also has a Presque Isle Bay and a little north of town there is a Little Presque Isle Beach, and Little Preque Isle which IS an island.

Presque Isle River..........located in the Southern most portion of Porcupine Mountain State Park along the UP's western Superior shoreline,  it meanders through Gogebic County and crests over 9 waterfalls.  The last forms an "almost island" that in times of high water is in fact an island.

Well, now, the question is which Presque Isle came first? Maine or Michigan?

Michigan's Presque Isle was ......
established as a county in 1840
village settled in 1860

Maine's Presque Isle was....
Settled in 1828
incorporated as a town in 1859
a city in 1940

Apparently Presque Isle, Maine is famous for this......I simply must see this someday.

Caltech gets WLC tomorrow, and if the Warriors come out flat, look out!  WLC got a big time shellacking from Occidental last night--so if Caltech brings their "A" game, they might very well be the next team off that list.  ::) ::) ::) ::) :o ??? :o ??? :o ??? :o ??? :) ;) :D :) ;) :D

How could I have missed seeing the Bard-Caltech matchup before this?  Is it too late to lobby Pat for a live broadcast?  I've been waiting for this game for years.
