How could I have missed seeing the Bard-Caltech matchup before this?  Is it too late to lobby Pat for a live broadcast?  I've been waiting for this game for years.

Maybe you could sponsor the weblink for Raptormania to do the webcast!

Mr. Ypsi

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned it yet, but Adrian fell off the winless list, soundly trouncing Oberlin.

Why Mr. Ypsi, how do you suggest that disservice from the finest coverage of losers that exists  -  check my post of yesterday at 7:03 PM  ;D ;D

My humblest apologies! :-[

I missed it amongst the discussion of the various forms of Mainiacs and the anticipation of the great Bard - CalTech showdown! ;D

Good news! The novelty of the CalTech/Bard match-up has been preserved.

Final just in:  WLC 117, Cal Tech 57.  :) ;) :D :) ;) :D 8) 8) 8)

It strikes me that 8) is the wrong emoticon to use to when announcing that your team has just defeated CalTech.  Not everyone in the world is 8), even in Pasadena, but pretty much everyone can beat the Beavers.

The appropriate emoticon would be one releasing a deep and long-held breath.   :D

Caltech gets WLC tomorrow, and if the Warriors come out flat, look out!  WLC got a big time shellacking from Occidental last night--so if Caltech brings their "A" game, they might very well be the next team off that list.  ::) ::) ::) ::) :o ??? :o ??? :o ??? :o ??? :) ;) :D :) ;) :D

I actually laughed when you said that WLC came out flat and got smoked by Oxy, so Caltech might have a chance... ::)

I'll keep that in mind, next time. Didn't even give myself enough "think time", just saw the result and "ran with it" so to speak. (or another option would be  :-X).

Funny, I start in on Presque Isle and I lose six karma points.

Now, will Bard stroll and sing its way to a win over CalTech?

Pat, for all Loser lovers, I think the Calteck - Bard game deserves special mention on the front page   -   would also be a great service to this page if one of "our Kind" were to give us updates on this page of that monumental affair.

For you trivia buffs, there was a Bard student 3,4, 5 years ago that used to write about Bard hoops constantly in glowing terms  .   Would drive anyone who took him seriously absolutely nuts - but if you appreciated his humor, or madness, he was hilarious  -  he had some real battles with Pat.   wasn't his name Howie???

I'm sure you're thinking of Howard Megdal.  I've always assumed he was the comic genius behind Raptormania.com, but I could be wrong.

As I prepare our first winless and winless vs d3 ratings, I see that we did miss a win by one of our eight winless teams  -  Emmanuel beat Northwood, Florida, 56-54 last Thursday, to drop off our list, but become an addition to our newly formed  "winless vs d3 only" list

We are down to 7 winless, with ratings on likelihood of staying winless through the year

7)  Eastern Nazarene  0-8   Lost 5 of 8 by 7 or less  -  should be able to get wins vs Anna Maria, Newbury, or Wentworth Tech

6) Thomas More  0-12  Played very tough non conference schedule  -  should get wins against weaker nonconference foes Thiel or W&J

5)  Penn St Berks  0-7   The NEAC is really weak - they should get a win against the likes of D'Youville, Polytechnic, or Caz; Also have Gallaudet  coming up on Jan 6

4)  Concordia Moorhead  0-7  Lost 3 overtime games and 3 others by 7 or less!  Should get wins against weaker conference foes Hamline, St Johns, St Marys, or St Olaf.

3)  Albertus Magnus  0-8  Lost by one at Daniel Webster, get them at home on Jan 13;  also Big matchup with winless vs D3  Emmanual,  Mitchell also affords a chance for win.

2)  Principia  0-6  The Sliac top 8 teams are not that bad-  No 9 Lincoln Christian lost by only 1 to Macmurray, yet appear to be the only team that No 10 Principia should be competitve with -  any other Prin win in the conference would be an upset.  Take out an 8 point loss to St Louis Pharmacy, and Prin is losing by an average of 49 points per game!

1)  Caltech  0-9  Only the "game of the year" with Bard on Jan 6 will prevent Caltech from acheiving a perfect season!!

Next post will review winless vs D3

And now for the winless vs D3 ratings, again with the No 1 rating going to the team least likely to get a D3 win

There are now 12  teams with a win against non D3 teams, but still winless vs D3
12)  Fontbonne  2-7  Young team with good talent  -  will vie for SLIAC top 4

11)  Whitman  2-6  Huge upset over perenial NAIA power Biola shows wins will come once they get into conference games

10)  LaVerne  1-7  only win is vs usual loser Life Pacific  -  but two games in conference with Caltech make winning a high probability

9)  Lincoln Christian  1-4 Beat Great Lakes Christian   New addition to SLIAC and NCAA already almost upset MacMurray -  they should get a win against winless SLIAC foe Principia

8)  Emmanuel  1-6  Just dropped from winless catagory by beating Northland florida;  games with winless Albertus Magnus, Daniel Webster afford chances to win

7) & 6)  tie   Crown  1-6, Minnesota Morris 1-9  I don't know anything about the schools in the UMAC  -   we'll put both of thes schools in the middle of the pack  -  someone will win when they play each other

5) Huntingdon 1-9  lost at home vs Rhodes by one, get them again on Tuesday;  Sewanee is another opportunity  -  could have a rough time winning in GSAC.   only win vs Atlanta Christian

4) Colorado College 1-13  Not many d3 games left to get off this list  -  big game with the Banana Slugs  at home on Jan 20  -  the slugs beat them by 5 in California.   only win vs yep, Life Pacific

3) Alma  1-9  only win vs Grace Bible - the MIAA is clearly down this year, but whom will Alma beat?  Olivet, Kzoo, Adrian present opportunities

2) Maine Presque Isle 1-8  Big game coming up with No 1 Green Mountain  on Feb 10 -  have beaten only Unity, Me

1)  Green Mountain  1-7  Have beaten only Paul Smith's, by 1 in OT  -  Have lost badly to all others -  The match up with UMPI is second only to the huge Caltech - Bard game in establishing the likely Loser of the Year winner

Note that Bard has not made our lists as they have an upset win over Anna Maria.

Howard Megdal. One of my all-time favorite posters. I hated to see him disappear.

There's a poster in the largely-dormant NEAC room who calls himself "Raptormania", but I don't think it's Howie.
