To atnwriter:

As far as my thinking goes for the Survivor Pool, I do try to pick schools that do not play in holiday tournaments.  While I'm sure it is great fun for the teams involved, playing around Christmastime in warm weather spots (Las Vegas, Florida, Hawaii) after travelling great distances, plus going against unfamiliar competition from perhaps D-II or NAIA schools, doesn't give you the best chance of keeping a streak alive.  I figure if you don't play from mid-December until early January, you give everyone else a chance to lose while you can't, kind of like Ohio State in the BCS.

I also try to stay away from picking school in conferences that have similar institutions that tend to beat each other up, like the public universities in the WIAC, NJAC, SUNYAC, etc.

I picked Rhode Island College last year because they beat D-1 Iona before the pool started and played in a relatively weak, top-heavy conference.  They dropped only one game, by 4 points, to Keene State prior to January 20th. I almost picked Keene this year, but saw that they had a holiday tournament with Calvin, Montclair St. and Salem St., so I picked RIC again.

Given those criteria, of the remaining unbeatens, Coast Guard seemed to be the best fit.

As I joked earlier, I think the smart pick is Plattsburgh State. They are loaded.  I just can't pick them.  It would be like Coach K picking North Carolina.

Now I have to go get ready to be buried under snow and ice. Got to love upstate NY.

I just guess.

Puget Sound will hang with the Survivors for atleast a bit...their game tonight against Warner Pacific (NAIA) was canceled due to flooding

I am fairly surprised no one has taken Rochester, I figure they should be good till atleast January.

I've got the 'jackets. See the list that Tom has posted.

Woo hoo!  I've clinched a bronze medal!   ;D

Rochester has two games next week; Plattsburgh has the week off; and Williams has three weeks off.  In fact, Rochester will have played six more times before the Ephs next lace 'em up.  I'm liking nescac1's chances here.

Those who picked Coast Guard are safe into January. Bears are 8-0 for first time since 1992-93 as they hit semester break.

Puget Sound cruised by Cal State Stanislas last night to imporve their record to 6-0.  They are now idle for 20 days until they play Edgewood at the Westmont tournament.

Plattsburgh State has the week off, but it could be extended to two or three weeks if the next airdrop doesn't include dogfood and the huskies all die off, leaving the Cardinals with no sled teams to get them back to civilization for their next game. Meanwhile, the entire team has been on lockdown in the dorms ever since the latest polar bear sighting in downtown Plattsburgh brought with it three more mauling incidents. Probably just as well that the basketball team is on hiatus, as Coach Curle has threatened to set a player adrift on an ice floe in Lake Champlain after every loss this season.

As for Williams ... well, Chad, Biff, Chip, and the rest of the Ephs gang have all jetted down to Mimsy's mom's winter digs down in Palm Beach for a bit of bronzing during the break. Then it's off to Boston for the big squash tournament with the riffraff from Hah-vahd and the annual Beacon Hill New Year's Squash Cotillion before Coach Paulsen has the Ephs giving the ol' what-for at the peach baskets again.

Yes, folks, I have decided that what the Survivor Pool was really missing was a good bout of trash-talking. I await your U. of Rochester jokes at your earliest convenience. ;) :D

Greg, kind of hard to hate on Rochester ... it's like hating on vanilla, or the Gap, or elevator music, or Everybody Loves Raymond ... perfectly boring and inoffensive in every way (hey, you started it ...)

Here's hoping the two NY teams go down in December, before the Ephs return from their hiatus ... and have to face games against Keen St. and at Amherst in early January.

A hospital, what is it doctor?  It is a building with four walls and patients, but that's not important right now.
