NC I have the old Cardinal head and the new NC interlock.

The old Cardinal head buries the NC interlock IMHO! That's a basball logo not a football logo.  And I would rather disassociate football from the mess that is the baseball program. :o >:(

CardinalAlum I'm with you.  The old Cardinal Head was a classic and most could recognize that head and immediately think of North Central.
Ex. Carthage with the feathers, UW-Oshkosh's Titanhead, Elmhurst's Bluejayhead, etc.  You instantly recognize the school associated with that emblem.
The interlocking NC to me is synonymous with North Carolina.

NC switched to the interlock NC because Jon Thorne wanted a new emblem to be the "sign" for his regime.

Coach Journell and Co. at EC did something similar with the new emblem, new uniforms, etc.  I guess to each his own.  Looking back in history, my favorite Elmhurst emblem was during Tom Beck's era. Grey helmets with the perched bluejay head on both sides.  That was sharp!
Oh well, times change.

I could not agree more.  When I was being recruited, I saw the cardinal head on the helmets and I remember commenting on how cool it looked.  IMHO, it looks better than ISU, Louisville and the Arizona cardinals, more aggressive, I think.  I remember when we first got the NC's my freshman year I was pretty disappointed.  It reminded me of Naperville Central, a rival team that I was not too fond of in high school.  Actually, my sophomore year, Coach Thorne put the helmet decal to a vote and supposedly the NC won, but I know that I voted for the Cardinal.

  Jaybird,
Funny you mention this.  My sophomore year when we were on our way to Colorado to play Colorado College, we went to the airport in our travel suits with the NC's embroidered on them.  The week before, NC State had just played a stellar game that against the defending champion Ohio State Buckeyes that went into 3 overtimes (NC State ended up losing 44-38).  But in the airport, so many people came up to us and congratulated us on the great effort we put forth the week before.  We all had a good laugh about it.

Do you think if you combined all the best talent in the CCIW you could come up with a competitive major conference D1 program?

So that I don't completely agree with CardinalAlum...  :P  I would remove the "Simply put..." part and just say "NO!".

couldn't agree more.  I never like the NC logo, but didn't NC change their helmets often.  If I remeber correctly, I thought that they had something different every year, or rotated every other year???

I still do not like the new Carthage Logo either.  The "C" with the feathers was a good looking logo and very sharp.  They did ok with the new one, but it is just not the same.    :'(

I have to agree.  And I think that would be true even if you took the All American team from D3 vs a good D1 program.

The CCIW Teams that have changed their helmet "look" the most have been North Park and Elmhurst.
Augie, Carthage, Millikin, have been the same for most of their entire history.
North Central has changed many times, though not as many as NPU or EC
Wheaton has had only a few changes.

And, an all-star CCIW Team would have to put up a good fight to knock off a D-II  team.  The speed of the game is different, the player's sizes, strengths, and talents are different, etc.  It's like the difference between A and AAA in baseball.

No Chance a CCIW all star team could compete with a competative D1 program. Unless by compete you are talking GPA.

OK, I don't sprechen se Deutsche but i found this from the website of the Dodge Vikings, whom the Augie boys played this past weekend:

I cut and pasted that into a translation website and came up with this:

"Dodge Vikings: Augustana Vikings 14:41 (7: 34) there were two winners in this afternoon: the children and youth bar, those in presence of Markus Rogan of our passenger car the record sum of 14.500. - (twice as much as in the last year) presented and the team of the Augustana got colleges. The inventors of the American of football showed the Viennese Vikings in this afternoon where the American Bartl the Whiskey fetch. With straight attractive for it however all the more effective play style, did not run the Augustana Boys in this afternoon our players only in such a way around the ears. A tactics, to which in Europe hardly in this way one practices. The Dodge Vikings made itself heavy due to many self-errors the life still additionally and came only into 2. Quarter by a TD von Christoph Budimir on the Scoreboard. To the break the play had more or less been running, which continued to cloud however the good tendency on ranks not. After the break a similar fig., US Boys with 3 Running Backs at the field and further in the advance. End of the third quarter comes with the Wienern Philipp Jobstmann as QB on the field and can show with some beautiful actions that it is rightfully starting the QB of the Austrian national team. In the fourth play section a beautiful long passport on Chris Rosier succeeds to it to the final conditions of 14:41 "

Someone help me out here but its a long way to go to say I think Augie won 41-14. I also take that they don't see 3 runningbacks in the backfield much and Augie taught them something about a "whiskey fetch" whatever that is.

I was there too and I don't remember any vote...I still have my cardinal heads from my freshman year under DeGeorge...
Thorne wanted a different look and thats cool, can't fault him for trying to change perceptions, I think he's managed to do a pretty good job getting things turned around.  I liked the cardinal head better.

Didn't they used to have a N like Nebraska at some point? or was it a plain white helmet with a red stripe?

There was a plain white helmet with a red stripe under Bill Mack.  It was a brutal look.

I really disagree with you guys on this one.  Yes it would be somewhat lopsided if the D3 All-Star team faced a Big ten opponent but the difference between D3 and D2 is very minimal.

I had the fortune of playing D2 and D3 football and having wathced many a games over the years, the difference is very small.  Augie and Wheaton could go into the GLIAC and compete.  Possibly not right away with the Grand valley State's but with the Indianpolis and Northern Michigan, Saginaw Vallet State, etc. No question
