Joey, do you like it when a dog rubs up and down on your leg?

Carthage Fan,

To give you my 2 cents about Carthage... I think the greatest key for Carthage is to stay healthy and off the DL.  We didn't really get a chance to see the "real" Redmen last year, because each week seemed to have an key injury and guys shuffling around to fill the voids.
I think the Redmen will be much better than last year and as usual, a team that cannot be taken lightly featuring a pretty strong/quick defense.

Sad day for the Redmen.  We lost one of our former defensive coaches to cancer.  His name is Bob Conwell.   He had moved on to be a coordinator and head coach at Concordia IL, but he will always be one of us.  Bob was one of the funniest men I have ever known.  At the end of season banquets he would stand up and speak and it was like a 30 minute comedy routine.  I know for my teamates and myself we will miss Bob very much.  GOD BLESS YOU BOB.

Jaybird,

Hoping we can keep on the healthy side as well.  51 days till the Red Men report hopefully guys are doing their summer workouts.

BTW if any on here are fisherman, just got back from NW Ontario, weather was unseasonably warm and the fishing a little slow.

"The worst day fishing beats any day of work"  is on the wall of my office. ;)  So yes Carthage Fan,  I am a big fisherman.  I fish on Silver Lake in Wisconsin and the fishing has been very, very good!

I posted my condolences on the IBFC Board about Bob Conwell.  The thing I admired most about Coach was his courage and fearless approach.  He did not let cancer get in the way of what he loved to do.

Yes, roughly 2 months and the players will begin their journeys... too bad that's not 2 weeks.

Yep love fishing too.  To quote another movie:

Arthur: Have you ever been on a yacht?
Linda: No, is it wonderful?
Arthur: It doesn't suck.

Fishing and Football...it doesn't suck!

Unfortunately for the rest of the CCIW Carthage almost has to stay healthier than they did last year. They should be alot better just for that fact alone. Plus some of the people who would not of played as much with a healthy roster got a ton of extra playing time. I look for them to make some noise at the top of the conference. Thank god Elmhurst gets them at home this year. 79jaybird, I heard that Coach Journell is taking over the play calling for offense this year. Have you heard this?

79jaybird

Comet14, no I did not hear this and (if this is true) would surprise me considering Coach Journell is a defensive minded coach.
As far as I know Coach Stanford is still the Offensive Coordinator and (most likely) the man dictating the plays on offense.

I don't usually get the final word(s) until I talk with Coach in August, right before the training camp begins.

I feel as though Carthage will go as far as thier offensive line will take them on offense.  It all starts up front where Carthage basically looses the entire line from the past two seasons.  Thats the critical position in my mind.

I think if those guys that have been back-ups the past couple years can work hard in the weight room and over the summer they can be a very good football team this year.

79jaybird

NCCAlum 62-  I think you're right and the same goes for really every team in the CCIW this year.  They don't get a lot of credit, they don't get the big stats and numbers, but nobody goes ANYWHERE without a sturdy O and D line!  Ask the great running backs what was their secret, most will tell you they had great blockers in front of them giving them room to run.

You are correct. OL and DL are the base of all teams.

Look at Denver in the NFL every year they come up with another 1500 -2000 yard runner who nobody ever heard of before.
2 years later that RB gets a big contract from a team like Detroit or the Browns and he can not even get out of his own way.

Every Year Tom Brady makes some WR look good, they leave the Pats and are never heard of again.

Lineman and QB's make football work , the rest come and go.
With exception to the greats like Barry Sanders, Jim Brown, ...
Skill positions are all great athletes but Lineman and QB's are the difference makers.

Quite true - since the days of Bobby Layne, et. al., unless you're condemned by geography to be a Lions fan, name any Lion aside from Barry!  (Well, there would have been Billy Sims if injury hadn't cut short what looked to be a Sanders-type career.)
