Any good pubs in Naperville to grab a burger and brew before game?

augiedogie

Not that this is of any relevance, but it is an interesting fact that IWU is the only team to have a winning record against Augie in CCIW play. However, I still believe that Augie should continue to close the gap this upcoming weekend.

Red 99,

Grab a burger and a beer at the Lantern on Chicago Ave and Washington Street in downtown Naperville, 2 blocks from the field.  Make sure you wear your Carthage gear!  I'm sure you will have a wonderful time.

Red 99,
There is Jimmys Bar and Grill which is an outdoor bar in Downtown Naperville and The Lantern which is across the street.  Both have good atmospheres and good food, and they are within 3 minutes walking distance from Cardinal Stadium

Oh and make sure you ask the bartender to "ring the bell."

Mugsy,

Agree with you on your assessment that Augie's D has been the difference so far this year (other than the Central game).  However, Augie shut-out a much stronger Carthage offense last year and then gave up big yardage and points to NCC and Wheaton, losing out on a playoff spot in the process.  I feel pretty good about what they have done so far, but the defense needs to show up when everything is on the line (which very well could come down to the last two games of the season, again).

In Naperville, Big Al's Beef just opened a store in down town about 2 blocks from the field.  Across from Jimmys and next to the Blue Room.  Great beef and "saazich"!!

I can't help but be amused at all this "Big 5, little 3" talk concerning the CCIW.  How soon you forget...Carthage and North Central were right alongside North Park and EC at the bottom of the conference just a few years ago, while those Green Weenies down in Bloomington were national contenders.  Two years ago, Elmhurst finished 6-4 (3-4), and besides the Milikin game, had the lead and or a chance to win right up until the end in every game that year.  And let us not forget the 1999 upset of the then "Crusaders" that ultimately bounced Wheaton from the playoffs.
Things change...and just as Carthage has risen to dominance on the strength of their D, the Bluejays field an aggressive defense that attacks with speed and pressure.  Their O, while not what it was in year's past with Mr. Demma at the healm, is as multiple and blanced as any in the conference.
So go ahead and sleep on the Jays, being overlooked is a position EC has become accustomed to...the difference now is, they have the speed and the talent to do something about it.

To the Ghostman,

Talk to us when Elmworst actually beats a quality team.

I know you're new to posting this year, as a now former player, so take this for what's it's worth. Information like you posted above, regardless if its factual or not, is better left kept to yourself and not shared for all including current CCIW players who may read and feed on the information. It might make you seem credible and knowledgeable of ONE team, but stabing your alma mater in the back lacks judgement and in my opinion character. It's ok to be critical as you have been in most of your postings, but to sell-out is totally un-cool >:(. I received this same lecture last year, I think from Irish21, It was advice I took to heart, I hope you do as well.

Tailgater,
This has nothing to do about stabing my alma mater in the back. This is post that is to be shared with other football fans. Trust me if players or coaches are reading this their minds or not focused on the game. They have better things to do (like play or coach a game). These facts I thought were interesting to me and I thought others in this group would also think it is. And to call me a sell-out is not cool. I am a huge Redmen fan and I will always be. I want them to be successful. My statement above wasn't meant to give a tip to NCC. It was interesting information to be shared among us. If other coaches or players look at this, then their mind isn't on the game. And to say that im stabing my alma mater in the back, not knowing who I am or what I was trying to state, makes me question your character. SO LEAVE IT!

If you're trying to convince me for one minute that players in the CCIW, during some of there down time, don't log on and scroll threw the d3football web-sight and check out rankings and what's going on in DIII football around the country and in thier conference, then you're out of touch with reality. Their not spending all their down time playing PS2. You'll probably never fess up to it, but I feel pretty certain you had logged on to this sight during your 4 playing years at Carthage. To say you didn't would be dishonest. Even if you don't believe your injury report isn't a tip to NCC or other CCIW opponents, at some level it is. I do know who you are and know it shouldn't matter to you who I am. None-the-less, no one ever posted your injury which certainly limited your abilities for many games or other disabled Carthage starters during the 2004 season for the very reason stated above. Someone will pick-up on it. This I write you as advice from someone with twice the years you are. Take the advice as a man and don't be so defensive.

Having broadcasted all but one North Central game, I feel I know this team a little bit. Comments on some things I've been reading. First, not having a great running game does hurt the Cardinals, but they have a wrinkle they didn't have last year with Kniss running the ball to keep the defense honest. However, no one has come close to stopping the passing game. Everyone knows Kniss' favorite target is Spencer, but has anyone stopped them? In my opinion, you can't stop the passing game just hope they hurt themselves with turnovers.

The defense has been surprisingly down. Opponents have been driving up and down the field, but the Cards are great at creating turnovers. 14 INT's over the last 3 games is something. If they don't get the turnovers, then it might cost them a game.

Predictions: This lead up and game reminds me of Wheaton. Cards offense vs. Wheaton defense. Well you know what happened there. One thing to watch for: Carthage running game vs. Cards defense. Dunlop from IWU last week had 142 yards. If Carthage runs the ball well, then they might have a chance.
