Cardinal 20,

I think I have a beef with you.  If you have in fact been announcing Cardinal games let me give some well meant suggestions.  Bear with me, some of these carry over from the last couple of years.

Please, Please, Please announce the score on a more frequent basis.  I swear to god during one game last year, it took 15 minutes for you guys to give the score.  You have to keep in mind many of us tune in for brief intervals of the game.  WE NEED THE SCORE! If you have been doing that this year, my apologies.

Secondly, you guys should consider adding a color analyst (maybe a former player, or a few different former players rotating) to give a more in depth analysis of whats occuring in the game.  No offense...but sometimes the analysis of what is going on is a little weak and very misleading.

Please don't take offense, I mean these comments as constructive criticism from someone who typically must rely on the radio broadcast for game information.

Redman fb44,

Are you a former fellow Fox Valley Conferencer?

I also happen to agree with you on this injury issue.  This is not classified information...its fair game to talk about it on the message boards.  If Kniss broke his leg today and I found out, you better believe I would be posting it.

Cardinal20,

Obviously NCC has been playing great on offense and I do believe it will be tough for Carthage to completely shut them down.  However, I have to disagree with the characterization of the lead-up to NCC/Carthage being the same as NCC/Wheaton.  Most of the discussion around Wheaton's defense was not that they would shut down NCC, but they would need to play exceptionally well for Wheaton to win.  The majority of the discussion seemed to center around NCC needing to win a big game to truly be considered the favorite in the conference.  To their credit, they accomplished this.  Based on what Carthage's defense did against Millikin (~ 100 yds in total offense/Wheaton allowed ~ 500 yds) and Augie (~130 yards rushing), this game is a true match-up of Offensive strength (NCC) against defensive strength (Carthage).

I see this game playing out similarly to the Augie/Carthage game last week.  I don't believe it will be quite as low scoring but the outcome will be decided by Carthage's ability to move the ball and score points against NCC's defense.  As was proven last week, even with one of the top defenses in the country, you can't win if you don't score.  If the injury report posted earlier for Carthage is correct, it will be much tougher for them to win this weekend.  Should be another exciting weekend in the CCIW.

With all due respect to you, I can guarantee that was not me on the broadcast. I will pass the message on. It is a consant message because we are a college radio station. As far as the color analyst, we cannot do that because you have to be enrolled at North Central to get on our airwaves.

Tune in on Saturday and you'll hear a good broadcast.

washdupcard,

Yes I am a former Fox Valley Conferencer. How did you know? And thanks for understanding my point about the injuries. Tailgater might think he knows who I am but I wouldn't have cared if people on this board talked wbout me when I was injured last season. I never looked at this site when I played because I was focused on the next game. I played by the coaching of my coaching and not by what others were saying of a post board. It's just conversation between former alums and parents of sons that play or played for CCIW teams.

Washdupcard your my boy blue!

FB44,

I hope you Redman get it going this weekend! We got trains, planes and automobiles to catch towards ALLIANCE! and a few {cold ones} Get er done Carthage! AmTrack AWAITS!!!!!
B4 my boy!
Good to hear from you!  I hope we get it going too and are back in the playoffs again!  I only hope that I don't fall out of the luggage rack on the train again.  Keep that bottle of cognac ready!

FB44  I would have to agree with Tailgater on the injury reports. I don't think you're a sell out or a back stabber, but I'm sure in your playing days you would have looked for any advantage you could find too.  I know your intentions are good, but try and have some filter on what you post.  This is just my opinion.

Johnny I won't be able to meet you out before the game, but will you be able to stick around for a little bit after the game?

Also I know there are many doubters, but I have a good feeling about thins game and I think that the Redmen will surprise some people!

GO REDMEN!
HEY NORM, I LOST YOUR HAT! GO REDMEN!!!

Cardinal20-  I can relate.  I have been broadcasting Elmhurst football for the past 5 years.  I look at it as constructive criticism.  I take everything in stride.  "Say the score more"  do this   do that.  I try to find the happy medium.  And if somebody says "You suck"  (Which has never happened to me and I hope never does  ;D )  I would say here you go, you try it.  Broadcasting a football game effectively is very difficult.
Coocoofor cohawk-  Interesting post.  I don't see Elmhurst losing 5 straight games.
MVP for Elmhurst  I would say is their entire Defensive line of Matt Kelly, Brian Keaton, Mike Heffernan etc.  This team has kept the Bluejays afloat when the offense at times was struggling.  Case and point- 2nd half vs. Chicago and 2nd half vs. NPU.
Spencer is one of those guys that you know is going to get the ball, but is very hard to stop.  Like a Michael Irvin with Dallas in their hay days.  You knew #88 was going to get the ball, but could the NFC stop him?  Let alone NFL when they won their Super Bowls?
Should be an interesting weekend.  I predict at least 1 upset this weekend.

Cardinal 20,  one other thing.  Take pride in your broadcasts.  I know I love what I do broadcasting the Bluejays.  Sure it is hard when your beloved team is down but Football Saturdays at 1:00 PM, I feel at home on the radio.
You wouldn't be there taking time out of your busy schedule, on a Saturday when the errands list is a mile long, unless you absolutely LOVE what you do! :D

Washdup...not at all. That was also my biggest complaint about Harry Caray. He would go two or three innings before ever giving a score!

It's nice that more and more CCIW teams are doing webcasts and broadcasts. But they certainly aren't getting Al Michaels, Wayne Larivee, Dick Enberg or Pat Haden. These guys are all starting out and constructive feedback should be taken in the context it is given.

Tailgater, I agree with you that undoubtedly current players follow this board somewhat to see what folks are saying about them.  As a former player, I don't think doing that on your down time means I'm not focused on the game.  We all read the local paper's stories before the game at our team breakfast every Saturday and we went undefeated through the regular season in 1996, so I don't think it took our focus away from the game.  However, as far as redmen giving away "tips" to the opponent by posting injury reports on here, isn't that mostly public information that could be easily found by reading the team's local paper?  I'm sure sometimes coaches would like to keep certain injuries secret, but for the most part, they have already announced any type of injuries in their weekly press conference.  If you read the IWU article in the Bloomington Pantagraph every Thursday, it will often tell you if the team has any new injuries.  Maybe other teams do it differently, I don't know, I never paid attention, but I don't think this is information is that highly classified.  IMHO.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!
