Shark56 now that is what i am talking about. This is one of the reasons for my decision to maybe even play d3. Its close to family a good school and i get to play the game i love. eventhough i will have to come out of pocket to pay for it, it all adds up. I could go to a different school far away that i would have to pay very little if at all but will i be happy. I dont know. Like i said before NPU is just fitting together. Now for it being one of the worst teams in d3. Could be i dont know the history on NPU. But for all you ex players you cant tell me that you wouldnt play one more year of football even if you lost every game. Just to be out there on that field again is something you just cant explain. Now dont get me wrong. losing every game is certainly not my intention because being an athlete I ALWAYS want to win no matter what it is. I hope that you can understand my point of even if you dont agree with it.

washdupcard i would agree with your comment IF you had any idea what you are talking about. This isnt my first go round at this thing. I have played D2 football in the SIAC as well as football at the JR college level. I would still be D2 but i had some serious family issues to deal with at home. I would be going to NPU first and for most for an education not just for football. You are correct on one thing im not Chad Johnson or TO and if you ask any of the coaches i have ever played for they will tell you that im the complete opposite. Another thing, what does a D3 Student Athlete act like? I hope they would act the same as a D1 athlete because they all do the same things right! I normally wouldnt have even responded to this nonsense but i was attacked for stating my opinion. As for putting my name and number i do that because those are things that im proud of and things i will never hide. I guess you cant say the same. Now if anyone would like to ask me any questions before making these blank statements im open to just about anything.

The fact that you are (or may soon be) a player for a team in the CCIW means you really shouldn't be posting here period.  It is a general, unwritten rule that players should not be actively posting on these boards.  If you do join the NPU squad, just ask the coach... he'll tell you to refrain from posting.

You can read all you want, as many players probably do.

Justwatch,

I am sure you are all fired up to play and your intentions were all good, but unfortunately your post came across kind of cocky.  Just focus on your studies and playing football and not what goes on in here.  You know why?  Because it doesn't mean anything to what you do in the classroom and on the field.  Take this as a lesson from us old folk and good luck to you.

Vinny Gambini: It is possible that the two yutes...
Judge Chamberlain Haller: ...Ah, the two what? Uh... uh, what was that word?
Vinny Gambini: Uh... what word?
Judge Chamberlain Haller: Two what?
Vinny Gambini: What?
Judge Chamberlain Haller: Uh... did you say 'yutes'?
Vinny Gambini: Yeah, two yutes.
Judge Chamberlain Haller: What is a yute?
[beat]
Vinny Gambini: Oh, excuse me, your honor...
[exaggerated]
Vinny Gambini: Two YOUTHS.

Since we are new to college football, question on the preseason scrimmages, are they full length games with refs,

NCC_alum62

Football2007:

Usually not full length games, although it is dependant on the two teams.  We used to scrimmage the University of Chicago and they only have so many players (I think 2-3 strings plus some special teams guys)  We took away the some special teams and only played 3 quarters.  Thier coach didn't want to play a full 4 quarters because he didn't want his starters playing too long and didn't have a 4th string to play.

They do hire Ref's and they do make regular calls, but the scrimmage is run by the head coaches in all reality.

Any scrimmage I've ever been a part of has not been a full length game and has some elements removed.  They try to keep the QB's safe, the whistles are fairly quick,  not many big hits, etc.  Its like a preseason game, you give all your players a chance to do something against an opponent on film so they can be evaluated.

Unwritten Rules are just that....unwritten, and hard to enforce at times.... I would say it is a rule that Coaches should be impose on their players, not us current posters....  but what do i know?  My karma gets hit more than A.J in a fight with Michael barrett.

Special teams plays are generally not live to the ball - in other words kick coverage is merely to insure players stay in their lanes, receiving teams usually check to make sure blocking assignments are correct, etc...  Often times extra points and FG's are not live.

For some teams that scrimmage year-in and year-out and the coaches have a strong relationship, sometimes coaches will script part of the scrimmage to see how their teams will react against a specific offensive play or defensive alignment or coverage.  In other words, coach A will say "I want to run this offensive play, can you give us this defensive coverage?"  Or coach B will say "we would like to see this play against us when we are in this defensive alignment?"  Sometimes it is very beneficial to see how your team reacts to a specific case, rather than the ultimate final score of a scrimmage.

Coaches do generally talk beforehand to make sure 1st teams go against 1st team, 2nd team and 2nd teams, etc...

Thanks, my son and his room mate are very excited and nervous at the same time not only for football but this whole college experience.

Mugsy, I assume that is the type of relationship the Wheaton staff has with the Creighton/Neathery staff?

It will be an adjustment, guys are bigger, faster and play smarter than HS.  They will do fine, main thing is keeping the right priorities, work on grades, play some football and have fun.  Plus, what a great place, can you think of a school with a better view than Carthage?

Carthage has a great fan atmosphere to be sure.  They used to bring couches onto the grass hill that is behind the opponents sidline area and they were awesome fans.  As a visiting player I liked when there was a strong crowd despite which side they were cheering for.  You gotta love playing in front of a crowd.
