Let me know if you have any questions.  Picks must be submitted by noon on Saturday.

Sorry, first year trying to do the pick'em.  Where do we go?

I think the chance to study the film is of greater importance than the actuall outcome of the scrimmage

Comet,

You make a great point here. Film from the scrimmage is an important teaching tool and, aside from the actual game-type experience for younger players, is the best part of a pre-season scrimmage.

Thanks on the pick'em info.  I must be blind.

Comet 14

Thanks usee, my son told me that he can't believe how much film they watch. He said that as a freshman he had no problem making plays once he got the footwork down and was in the right position but it took a lot of film preperation and practice time to get comfortable and make plays. Now as a soph it is much easier.

Been watching the Augustana practices.  With new coaches was hoping to see something different, but appears to be same old, same old.  HEY CCIW - Augie is going to be running options!!
Hopefully, Augie will sqeek in under the new TRI-CHAMPION standings that was instituted last year.  Apparently, CCIW has created a "feel good" atmoshere so that no coaches have a hissy fit.  Would not want Coach Barnes to actually have to recruit using his REAL record.
Oh well, look for Augie to run, NC to pass, Carthage to play dirty, Milliken to get beat up, Wheaton to act like the CUBS, Elmhurst to be a no show, Ill Wesleyan to be the patsy team.  Isn't there one more that seems to elude me.

Can you explain the comment "Carthage to play dirty"

Yes, this comment simply points out what has been known around the conference for years.  Especially, when Carthage is at home and losing.  Of course Ill Wesleyan is coming to be known for their dirty play the last few years also!

So apperently Wheaton has the best food, is that true?

I'm not sure if it is "the best", but as college food goes, Wheaton has outstanding food service.

I looked up on the 2008 Princeton Review best college list.  Wheaton is actually #3 in best food service.  I would give you the link, but you have to register.

WOW...I get all this bad karma and I am talking football.  Nobody out there complained about all the space this took on the posts.   Of course, this is speaking the truth like my posts ALWAYS have.

True... but you won't see conversations on these other topics starting next week.  In the offseason a variety of topics come up for short periods of time.

In addition, I'm pretty sure the reason you get all the bad karma is not because you are talking about football, but rather it is how you are talking about football.  You claim to speak the truth, but the sense I'm getting from reponses to your posts is that you are just being abrasive - which generally leads to negative karma.  You can come on here and speak your opinion, give facts to support your argument and generally that is very well receive - even if people don't agree with you.

Calling teams dirty (whether they are or not), having someone ask you to explain why you would say that and then respond with... "Yes, this comment simply points out what has been known around the conference for years" is similar to responding with "Because..."  Quite lame if you ask me.  Hardly proving you case or giving justification for calling a team and group of posters "dirty" or lacking in integrity.

Don't come on here and basically insult every team in the CCIW, including your own team, and then expect everyone to shower you with praise.  There are groups of people who don't see eye to eye on a lot of football topics, but it is discussed in a respectful way and using logic just a bit beyond "because I said so..." or "we all know it...".  I for one would not find this post nearly as interesting if everyone agreed... but most disagree and do so in a respectful manner.

btw: I think there were a grand total of 5 or 6 posts regarding the topic you highlighted... so not really that much space.

Red Men running game will be fine.

Carthage Fan, I'm curious to know (for conversation sake) why you feel the Red Men running game will be fine or was this just an optimistic comment?:) Over the past 6-7 years we have been spoiled with the likes of All-Americans Randall Baker and Dante Washington at RB. Last year the all senior O-line had 3 All-CCIW players of which Ryan Glassman was also an All-American Tackle. This experience will be hard to replace immediately. It took 3 seasons for this group to gel. We start this season with very little experience at all these positions...so what are your thoughts?

New Tradition, nice job on a thorough review of the NCC scrimmage!

Redman04, Congrats on the birth of your new Lady Red!

Mugsy and/or other Wheaton fans,  my Dad was also at the Wheaton scrimmage and mentioned that Wheaton appeared to lack the size he has been accustomed to seeing for a Wheaton squad. Any thoughts on this observation? I see that a friend of our family, Brett Jackson, was moved from WR to RB. Will he be a regular at this position? Although small in stature I know he can take the punishment. I've seen him walk away from some crushing hits that might leave many others as part of the turf.

Speaking of Pick-Em's, you guys are more than welcome to participate in the OAC Pick-Em's too.  We've historically had a few CCIW guys each year cross over and play in ours too.  The out of conference guys always present an interesting perspective.

We use spreads though ;D
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Couldn't help but notice and truly don't really care, but how does a benign scrimmage report merit a knock on karma? Don't need the karma conversation again, been there done that. If someone disagrees or is offended by something I reported let's talk about it. I really dislike the snipping. I'd prefer to discuss differing opinions not be left wondering what bothers a reader of one of my posts. Seems kind of gutless.

Don't sweat the small stuff.

I know, I've learned this lesson over the years. I would like/prefer to have discussions on topics or comments which other readers disagree with in order to reach an understanding rather than have smite lobbed ones way. I do know that the regulars on this Board operate with this in mind and with great civility.

I'm not aware of a drop of in size.  In fact the starters should be of equal size or larger in almost all cases - with noticeable exception to running back.  Going from Chaz Black to Hershey or Jackson is a significant drop in size, but is also a completely different running style.  I will say a few starters did not play in the scrimmage, which might explain the perception.  Tonight I'll give some of the listed sizes of the returning starters to support this...

Small world...  I've know the Jackson family for nearly my entire life.  Brett's family goes to my church and his parents are on the board of a non-for-profit organization with me.

Yes... Brett's change to running back will be perminent.  I believe Coach Swiders/Coach Hardys original thinking on this was to complement the more north-to-south runners like Walker Smith.  Brett is one of the faster guys on the team and seems use more of a slashing running style.  Of course as usee has mentioned, Smith did not return to the team this year...

I also think the decision to move Brett to RB is in part to some receivers returning for their 5 year - Fossum for one.  Brett probably wouldn't have seen as much time at receiver.

I completely agree with you on Brett's toughness despite his stature (no doubt a characteristic from his father).

No idea about the negative Karma but I've been on the board a few years (only about 2 as a poster) and I've always considered your posts to be classy and insightful especially concerning the Redmen.  Keep it up, +K for you
