P.S.

Barry Sanders was a punk quitter!!

Some of us Lions' fans are still a bit miffed at his retiring JUST before the season - not a cool way to treat teammates.

But, unlike MANY former running backs, Barry can still walk!  Sometimes it is wise to quit while one is ahead.

Anyone have info on the NPU v Chicago game from last night?

Carthage's string of impressive running backs from the 60's and 70's ended with Jodat.  And while he had mightly impressive numbers a lot of long-time CCIW observers might say he wasn't the best.

Jimmy Payne - averaged over 10 yards per carry for an entire season in the early 60's for an undefeated CCI championship team.

Tommy Holt
Joe Sobczak
and the best of the bunch might have been Curt Whipple, who had consecutive 1000 yard seasons going into his junior year, when he tore up his knee at North Park in the first game of the 1972 season.

Carthage's teams from 1962-74 and Augustana's teams of the eighties were the most impressive run-oriented teams I've seen in CCIW football - which I've been watching since 1965.

Aren't scrimmages played as regular games?  4 quarters etc?

"I just find these comments weak and supported by emotion.  Statistically speaking, since 1999, I bet we could talk about 20+ RBs across the league that (statistically) are better than Burris.  And, if his stats were available, I would like to see how he measures up against comparable RBs playing for weak teams in the CCIW throughout the last 8 years.  Regardless, at the end of the day there isn't an asterisk next to your name that says you played for a bad team -  what?  Barry Sanders, now how good really was he? "    Although I wasn't there I am pretty sure that for 4 years in a row the other coaches in the CCIW were not so emotional over Burris that they picked him as one of the best running backs in the conference. Just a suggestion here. Give it a rest and pick another subject to argue about. That seems to be what you like to do most.

So someone else is supposed to do the work to find the stats to support or disprove a debate where it seems you are the only one holding a particular side?  On top of the fact relying solely on statistics does not include all variables to the argument.

I'm with others on this... either you take the time to find the stats to support your stance, or provide more details as to why you think Burris was not a good RB or just give it a rest.

If the guy was a 4 time All-Conference selection, you've got to be a pretty good RB.  In the history of the CCIW, I wager that not many RB's have been 4 time All-Conference selections.  That would put him in rather elite company.

Any Carthage fans making the trek west to the Whittier game in a few weeks?
Baseball is not a game that builds character, it is a game that reveals it.

I believe I was clarifying his statement that it was a game vs a scrimmage. I don't have any information because I didn't attend and neither website speaks to it.

Most scrimmages are played with situations and/or running clock. Tomorrow Wheaton will play Wabash for a half live and then do special teams, goal line, and 2 minute situations. They usually also designate sets of plays for 1s, 2s and 3s.

Yes, I have plans to make the trip.  I believe other parents are as well.

I know what you were doing, but seriously....it just sounded very dry and condescending.
Maybe you enjoy confrontation which is fine, and I am sure others do on this board as well...
I just dont know if every time you fire back at someone about a mistype or a comment that it is warranted, especially something that meaningless..

Thats my opinion, take it for what it is worth...

Does anyone see a reason that it wont be a 4-0 Wheaton vs. a 4-0 North Central Next month??

How can it "sound" like anything? that's ridiculous. I stated a simple fact to clarify it wasn't a game, it was a scrimmage. If that hurt your feelings too bad. If I had any other information to share I certainly would. Somehow you don't like the way I post and to tell you the truth I could care less. feel free to send me a personal email or message about it if that makes you feel better but lets keep the football talk to football. I am not out to win any popularity contest, I come on here to talk football.
