......You might as well paint the WalMart parking lot green and play the game there.........

Overall, BW's stadium is very, very nice.  But the actual playing surface field is exactly as you describe.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

What happened to Beutjer?  Last I heard he got beat up by his roommate at Iowa and transferred to Illinois.  Will he see any playing time with the Illini?

He ended up starting a good chunk of his junior and senior year at Illinois and played pretty well.  I think his career at Illinios would have been even better had he not struggled with some nagging injuries (back problems).  I believe he may have even had back surgery.  As a result he was granted a 6th year of eligibility.

Career stats:
Quote2004: Granted sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA.

2003: Threw for 1,597 yards which gives him 4,108 career passing yards, seventh on Illinois' all-time passing list ... Averaged 228.1 yards passing per game and threw for 10 touchdowns ... Was 16-of-23 for 207 yards and four TDs vs. Illinois State ... Had a career day vs. California, setting career highs in completions (35), attempts (57), yards (430) and long pass (72); also had three TD passes ... His 430 yards marked the highest total in Memorial Stadium history and ranks as the fourth highest single-game passing total in school history ... Completed 63.0 percent of his passes ... Completed 31 of 44 passes (70 percent) for 284 yards and one touchdown in season opener vs. Missouri ... Started the first seven games before a back injury forced him to miss the remainder of the season.

2002: Led the Big Ten in passing yardage with 228.3 yards per game and was third in the conference in total offense with 228.9 yards per contest ... His 21 touchdowns were second in the Big Ten only to Heisman Trophy finalist Brad Banks of Iowa (26) ... Made seven starts and saw action in four other games ... Averaged 306 yards and 2.7 touchdowns, while completing 61.8 percent of his passes in his seven starts ... Threw four touchdown passes in his starting debut vs. Arkansas State and followed that up the next week with four TDs against San Jose State ... That was just the second time in school history that a quarterback has had back-to-back games with four touchdown passes ... Also had four TD passes in a 37-20 win at Wisconsin, Illinois' first win in Madison since 1992 ... Finished the season with 2,511 yards passing and 21 scores ... His 2,518 total yards is 10th on the Illinois single-season list ... His 21 touchdown passes are fourth on the Illinois single-season charts and ranks him seventh on the Illinois career charts ... Had four 300-yard passing days and his 426 yards passing vs. San Jose State was the fourth-highest single-game passing total in school history ... Nearly led Illinois to a win over No. 2-ranked and eventual national champion Ohio State with a 306-yard passing performance and one TD ... Entered the game in the third quarter against Penn State and threw for 157 yards on 19-of-28 passing and one touchdown ... Saw back-up action vs. Indiana... Connected on 28-of-38 passes for 426 yards against San Jose State, a Memorial Stadium record ... Also tossed four touchdown passes against San Jose State ... That performance merited a passing efficiency rating of 195.00, the 10th best passing efficiency day in Illinois history ... Was 18-of-22 (82 percent) for 277 yards and four touchdowns against Arkansas State, earning him a passing efficiency rating of 250.17 which is the third-best in school history ... Entered the Missouri game at the start of the fourth quarter and began the second half of the USM contest.

2001: Sat out the 2001 season after transferring from the University of Iowa.

High School: Illinois Player of the Year by USA Today, Gatorade and Champaign News-Gazette ... First-team All-State by News-Gazette, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Daily Herald and Illinois High School Coaches Association ... Was a preseason All-American by SuperPrep and CNN/Sports Illustrated ... Featured in Sports Illustrated Faces in the Crowd in January, 1999 ... Unanimous All-Conference selection ... Set state high school record with 60 touchdown passes as a senior ... Set national record of 60 TD passes in 14 games ... Set state championship game records for TD passes (6), yards passing (493) and completions (29) ... Set school and conference record for touchdown passes in a game (7), completions in a season (149) and career (232), and passing yards in a season (1,743) ... Team offensive player of the year and MVP ... Special mention All-Conference and All-State as a junior ... Career totals include 316-of-504 passes for 5,492 yards with 79 TDs and 14 interceptions in 21 games ... As a senior, led prep team to a perfect 14-0 record and Illinois Class 6A state title, and completed 218-of-334 attempts for 3,939 yards, 60 TDs and only seven interceptions ... Prep team ranked 15th nationally by USA Today ...Also competed in basketball and track and field.

6 years.... must be nice.  NFL potential?

He probably could have been a backup QB at best, but I think his back surgery scared most NFL teams away.

Not to rekindle a tired discussion, but while browsing around the Carthage College Athletic web-sight I went to the Carthage Athlete Hall of Fame link and noticed that Kevin Burris is a 2000 Inductee in the Hall. I think this adds to redman04 and others reasoning to not forget him when talking about Carthage Running Backs.

BTW i think it's great that you still go up and support the program even after your son is done

From Carthage's website.  I assume that they made a mistake and typed basketball and not football.

Broadcast Notes:  All Carthage men's basketball games broadcast on WRJN-AM Radio (1400) and available on the Internet.  The WRJN-AM broadcast of the Sept. 8 Lakeland game will be tape-delayed to start at approximately 10 p.m.

not sure where to listen live on the internet???

Most of the time if Carthage does a tape delay then it will be delayed on the internet at least through Carthage.  If Lakeland has a feed the best bet would be to go to that...

No word yet on the DE's from NC...

Anyone hear anything yet? NCC has their game notes up and two deep roster in which it has two Sophomore DE's starting, never heard of either of them. The only name I know on both 1st and 2nd teams is Kuhn, who played a bit last year as a freshman. I think I am going to make the trip out to wisconsin saturday and try to find out some info.

Goodluck to all CCIW team this weekend, let try to get 20 wins in non-conf games!

It really Stinks (trying to keep it clean) that I have to sit through a bye week after finally getting the season started.

Looks like alot of switching around for the Cardinals.  I'm excited to see how they play.  I'm concerned that those Seniors who may or may not be hurt are not listed on the two deep.  I would think those guys would be on there even if they were hurt.  Unless this is only for this weeks game and they will update it weekly.

Not alot of size at Tackle this year for the Cardinals, Starting OL Averaging 6,1 272, thats about as small as I've seen the Cardinals up front.  However the guards Welnack and Kasper are in the 6'2-6'3 / high 280-290 range and thier focus is athleticism on the O-Line while running that spread offense.  I'm excited to see Joshua Delancy play, he is the only non-Illinois product on the Cardinal two-deep.

CUW's Adam Schultz DE #74 sound familiar?  Well he's David Schultz's little brother (If you can call the 6'4 208 lb DE little).  David was twice named all CCIW 2nd team OT for the Cardinals.  He is a Jr. with great pass rush ability (at least according to Big Schultzy).  He has great feet and speed and played a little last year as a DE for CUW.  He should present a challange to the new OT's of NCC.  Its a shame the Schultz's couldn't have kept it in the family at NCC, however had they truely done that Dave might have ended up at Carthage.  ;D ;D

Lets just say last year was a bit of a shock when I saw Dave and he had on all this CUW clothing, traitor :D

Can't think of any better activity for a Saturday afternoon/evening than watch a CCIW football game. After 4 years it's now an addiction. Stop by the red tailgate tent and say hey. I'll have a beverage waiting with your name on it. Plenty of eats for you and your daughter to enjoy as well as plenty of laughs. She'll get a bang out of the fireworks at half-time. Hope to see Carthage Fan as well.

Already stated, but AM 1400 is where the games are broadcast on radio. Not sure of the range of the broadcast as I have rarely been able to pick it up at the games on my headset radio. ???

Sounds like a wonderful goal, but may be a bit too optimistic.  20 wins would mean only 4 losses, and IWU @ Coe was already 1.  Millikin only beat woeful Illinois College by 2, and would need (dare I say it?) TITANic upsets to beat either ONU or Wabash (both top 25 teams).  IWU will be a heavy underdog vs. Mt St. Joe (at least it is in Bloomington), as will be NPU @ Rose-Hulman.  That would be 5 losses, and there are at least 6-7 other games that could be rated as tossups.

I'd say 17-7 (possibly 18-6) would be a more realistic goal, but, what the heck, let's try for 20! :)
