Since we're on the topic...

I see that Steve Thonn (former Wheaton WR) was named (last month) the head coach of the Grand Rapids Rampage Arena Football Team.

Congrats.

How is it possible that Bob Meyer didn't play in the NFL?  ::)

What did happen to Bob Meyer?  I know a lot of guys end up playing for the Chicago Thunder in the west suburbs of Chicago trying to make it to the next level.  However, I'm not sure if Bob was ever part of that crew.

Sorry, not the right team.  But, I think I think it is a team in the Chicagoland Football League.

i clicked on the link and read some of their profiles...pretty funny stuff

Actually, I think JD Sheldon (3 or 4 time All-CCIW) from Augie use to play in this league, but have discovered that he now plays for the Indoor Arena Team - Chicago Slaughter.

After looking at the roster, I've also learned that your beloved Hula Bowl Hoopin' NFL hopeful Lenny Radtke is also on the team.

I went to a game earlier this year...Watts (NP) and Barnes (carthage)  both got alot of PT

Good to hear the CCIW is representing a strong showing.

How far off are the players from making it to the Chicago Rush?

Not sure..but the difference in speed in those two arena leagues are considerable.

Do the players get paid anything?

Any idea on the Carthage travel plans this weekend to Cali. Should be a pretty convincing win this weekend for the Red.
I would have loved to be able to go play a game in Cali.  What a great trip to be able to take.
I would think that the hardest part would be to keep your focus on a trip like that.

From what I have heard is that they will be leaving Friday around lunch, staying their Friday night and then Saturday night after the game.  Due to the fact it is a 7pm Pacific time game and that Whittier would not move change the time.  They then will be traveling back to Kenosha early Sunday morning...

I hope the above is true because the travel plans on the Carthage website have them leaving at 0 dark 30 on Friday.

Some amusing stuff on the IBC board today - start about the middle of page 238.  Some newbie named 'Are you Kidding' is finding out the hard way that making outrageous statements in total ignorance of facts is not a particularly successful route!  (I call your attention to it since it really got going when he declared that NCC could not win the IBC because they couldn't beat CUW or Lakeland; when I 'gently' pointed out that just 4 days ago NCC beat CUW by 3 tds, and Carthage, picked behind NCC in the CCIW Coaches' Poll, beat Lakeland by a similar margin, his back-pedaling REALLY got good!  Great amusement value. ;D)

Yeah, I think that I mentioned earlier this summer that NPU alumnus Brandon Watts was playing for the Chicago Slaughter. Thanks for mentioning it again within this "CCIW alumni playing postcollegiate football" thread.

79jaybird, What can I expect from UC's stadium come saturday? I have not been there yet.

Beware of suspicious activity under the bleachers!

Yes, make sure to wear lead-lined clothing and bring a Geiger counter if you're going to see a football game at the University of Chicago.

GS - You only need to gear up to go to the library.  The current Stagg Field is a couple of blocks away from the place where Enrico Fermi was contracting the cancer that would kill him ten years later at age 53.

Yes, I know, Martin. Bob and I were just funnin' y'all Maroons. ;)

"Great amusement value" is putting it mildly, Chuck. Thanks for the heads-up.

Having fun at that poster's expense isn't like shooting fish in a barrel. It's like shooting fish in a vat of Vaseline. :D

Ypsi,

wow. that is some good stuff. I stayed home from work today just to enjoy it. :D

Wheaton Crusader alum Steve Thonn holds the distinction of being among the first players to ever play in an arena football style game - all be it and exhibition game at the Rosemont Horizon in the mid-eighties.

In order to showcase "the arena style football game" to prospective owners and tickets buyers in the CHicago area the arena people put together an all-star team that had some local flavor to it and perform before an "by invitation" sell out crowd.

Moi had an invitation and went with a friend.  Seeing guys hip-checked over the hockey rink boards was very novel in its infancy.

This was one of the first "arena style" games ever put on.

Real old-timers will remember that the Bears played a game in the old Chicago Stadium - and there were games played in the Convention Hall in Atlantic City on several occasions.

I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

I particularly liked the offer for a free Kickoff subscription.

Me too.  That's the first time I've ever been on the IBC page and it was well worth the 5 minute read.  Simply too funny.

I keep thinking of the signature call from Joe Tait, the play-by-play guy for the Cleveland Cavs, "Slam with right hand"
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

There was some discussion about old CCIW players that had made it or were trying to make it to the NFL.  Bob's name came up.  We still have no update.  However, it generated some exciting discussion about the Chicagoland Football League - http://www.chicagofootball.com

Not really what I was talking about.  Everytime his name is brought up we get comments like...
How is it possible that Bob Meyer didn't play in the NFL?  ::)

and

Bob Meyer is 7 feet tall and shoots lightning bolts from his arse.

just wondering why the sarcasm?  Just wondering if I missed something?  ???

I stayed out of this one.  Last time I brought empirical evidence to the board (Kevin Burris) and got taken to the Karma cleaners.

Although a great athlete, the bottom line is he wasn't good enough.  Few are.  The leap from D3 to the NFL is just too big.  And perhaps, becoming even bigger.

Is there a game to talk about this week or is everybody waiting for CCIW to start?  The board is dead.

I had to delete my last two posts responding to that azz clown.  Its just not worth my time.

Pat Coleman is a better man than me.

Who honestly makes a jerk-azz statement like "who won when it counted" and then doesn't have the sence to check the dang scores and realize that NCC won 35-6 in the play-offs, I mean its unfathomable.

+K BP, just because you've had a tough week on Kevin Burris
