Here is a thought for comparison,

How many points did Mt. Union put up on essentially the same Carthage D last year?  (I know...this is skewed because the Carthage O was a ball control machine last year).

it appears b barnes didn't play for carthage and the report was that franko shenault was banged up but playing. barnes is one of the best cover corners in the league.

ypsi-it was noted that ncc didn't put up 43 on carthage. they had an int for a score and a blocked punt for a score so the ncc offense only scored 29 pts.

Pat-good points on the back to back losses (although both to ranked teams) we will see how this plays out.

Congrats to NCC on a great win.  I thought it was a great game, even though I did not like the outcome.  As far as being a dirty game, I did not think so.  I thought that it was a good physical game on both sides.  The roughing the kicker penalty, although it was the right call, in my opinion is not a dirty play.  I would really doubt that Brandon Fox had any other intentions than to block the kick.  In my opinion, as much as it can hurt a team, a roughing the kicker call like the one I saw on Saturday was a hustle play.  I, however, can not say the same thing for the late hit in the end zone.  That was a bad choice and he was flagged for it.  I am not sure, but I believe that those were the only two personal fouls in the game.  If that is so, I would not consider that a dirty game.

I was very impressed with Kniss.  I saw him play last year against Carthage and I think this year he looked a ton better.

Go luck to NCC in hope you all run the table!

By the way, this was the first time I had been at north central in about 5 years and the stadium looked great!  Nice facilities! They have really done a nice job updating that stadium and creating a great atmosphere!

Congrats to Wheaton on a job well done at Elmhurst, but what a sloppy game from both sides.  I truly believe that if Elmhurst doesn't committ the 5 pivotal turnovers we win that game 7-3 or 10-3.  Wheaton scored only 3 points on drives that didn't result from a turnover.  (1st poss 2nd half)
Couple thoughts on the game:
1) Elmhurst D-Line is one of the best (if not the best)  in the CCIW.
2) Elmhurst O-Line shut down the Wheaton D-line (no sacks allowed) they are much improved.
3)Elmhurst has to get a rushing game rejuvenated to be competitive in their final 4 games.
4) Wheaton's MIke Swider can flat out coach.  He always seems to come out on top.  When it was 14-7 and momentum could have gone either way... Swider made sure his team came out with the W.
5) As a team Wheaton did not impress me the way they have been the last 3 years.  Bazacas, the Wheaton LB's and Secondary were what caught my eyes.  Especially the secondary.  They matched Elmhurst's Todd Evans step for step, and made life difficult for EC's Receivers.  Todd Evans had the lone TD, but it was on a incredible one handed catch.
Fun game in Elmhurst but tough to win when you committ 5 turnovers.
USEE- Post # 1087  Thank you for the compliments on our broadcast.  I am the serious, professional play-by-play guy, while my color analyst is the more comical, funny sidekick that reminds me it is fun.  You combine the serious guy with the funny guy and it makes for a unique broadcast.  ;D
I'm glad you were able to get the game.  I would be interested to get your comments, suggestions, etc. b/c I think you're a Wheaton fan?  I get Elmhurst feedback and I would be eager to get another view.  Drop me a message when you get a chance.  It is our 5th year broadcasting and we are 2002 Alums.
Sounds like it was a thriller down at Millikin.  I knew North Park would surprise some teams in the CCIW this year.  Robin Cooper is doing a great job trying to create a program over there.  I'm shooting for the game vs. IWU that the parkers end their long CCIW losing streak.

Is it just me or does anyone think NCC should have moved up a little more in the rankings.

Well, for the 2nd week in a row Wheaton beats a team that rolled up more offensive yards.
I wish that sometimes the Wheaton offense would ditch the option period.
I believe both fumbles occurred on option plays albeit the fumbles were the result of hard hits but it just seems that every time we use  the qb option something like that is bound to happen.  I think though that Bazakus scored the 27 yard. td on an option, I think that Elmhurst was thinking that geez we stopped them on outside all day and there they go again outside.  The best running of any consistancy was off right tackle and Black did well with it and so did Bazakus.
Chupp missed some open receivers but his brother dropped 2 balls that should have been caught and so did several other receivers.  I hope to see Matt Bradley get more reps as every time he has the ball thrown at him he makes a bid play.
He just looks like he has a great pair of hands.
Wheaton's D-line didn't get any sacks but they had 5 tackles for lost yards and
2 of them were quarterback stops.  I think for all the time they have been spending on the field the defense carried the team.
The othe receiver besides evans that I thought was a big threat was Cooley who made several outstanding catches in traffic on some critical plays.  Too bad Kudyba couldn't get him the ball more.
Elmhurst has a quick defense that really limited wheatons outside game.
They have a lot of speed and athletes on their team and made it hard for Wheaton to match up.
The incredible one handed catch by Todd Evans was a great play but it wasn't one haned.  He tipped it to himself then hauled it in with both hands like any good receiver will do.

There is still a lot of play left in the CCIW.  Hopefully we won't all beat each other up and only get one team in the playoffs.  I still think Augie is the front runner for the title.  The type of offense they run keeps the other team's offense off the field.  NCC appears to have a decent defense with all of the turnovers they have created, but I don't think many people will argue that it is the offense that the Cardinals strength.

matblake

jaybird,
wasn't able to hear the game due to prior commitments, how many of those turnovers you mentioned were created by the Wheaton D (ie hard hits for fumbles, interceptions in traffic etc) and how many were miscues by Elmhurst(ie fumbled snaps, interceptions clearly thrown to the defense etc.)?  Just saying that because if the Wheaton defense created those turnovers then I think it doesn't matter that the offense didn't take advantage, to say that Elmhurst would have won doesn't really matter.  If not, and Elmhurst shot itself in the foot, then your argument might be a little more effective (at least to me  :) )

matblake

dansand,
The ride from Wheaton to Decatur is mind numbing.  Can't imagine what that ride from Rock Island is like.  Player 1: "Hey, what's in that field."  Player 2: "Corn."  Player 1: "What's in that field?"  Player 2: "Corn."  Repeat at will for 2 hours.

Cant say im surprised at this weeks results. I was surprised that Carthage had that many points scored on its D. They still have to travel to wheaton and elmhurst, so they have a tough uphill battle. Im also surprised that both elmhurst and north park kept it relatively close against their opponents. So does carthage have an outside chance considering that NC and Auggie still have to play each other?? They both have to play elmhurst and auggie is at wheaton! 8)

I just watched my game film from saturday and saw some late collisions/hits by NCC players.

TG,
You watch game film???  Are you a coach or player?  If you are, you shouldn't even be on here posting in my opinion.  If you aren't, why in the world would you be watching game film??

It was an entertaining game to say the least Saturday.  I was extremely disappointed that NCC didn't run the football coming out of halftime and use up some clock with a 20 point lead.  Their refusal to run the football almost cost them the game.  I'm still worried that the lack of a competent kicker is going to cost us at some point as well.  Kudos to Carthage for a great comeback and really stepping up the pressure on the Cardinals in the 2nd half.  Great job by the Carthage punter.  He was unbelievable in the 1st half.  Can't avoid a letdown at Elmhurst.  There is nothing worse than listening to that damn bell!

Maybe he's a parent who taped the game?

You watch game film? C'mon, man, you're 20 years behind the times. Most teams are using tape or even digital video by now! :)
