And then some +K for you and for Comet

I've never recovered from the Kevin Burris debate.  Although I must say that it doesn't make sense - that topic sparked some healthy debate, focused on CCIW football and covered almost 10 years of 1st All-CCIW RBs.  Plus, I did fairly extensive statistical research to support my point.  Isn't that worth some K?  Is there any way to know who is +/- your K?

Here is some +K so you will stop crying about it.....And some more for you New Tradition..... As a matter of fact +K for everyone!!!!!!!!  It's Like Christmas!!!!!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;) ;) :-* :-* :-*

Sooo, the table is set:  3-0 Elmhurst vs. 3-0 Carthage for the second straight year.  This is a pivotal game for both teams and I know Carthage is going to be hungry for revenge after EC spoiled their party in Kenosha last year.
I think the real key to next week's game is the EC running attack.  Defensively, both are strong with great playmakers,  offensively, if EC becomes 1-dimensional with just a passing attack, I think Carthage gets the upperhand.  On the flipside, if EC can establish the run like they did last week, then I don't see Carthage matching up well.  Just my take, but I know when these 2 arch rivals play- throw all the stats out the window because anything/everything could happen.

Jaybird  I can't wait for the game!  It will be great to see some CCIW football and what better way to start than with Elmhurst/Carthage!  I really think that it will be a great game.  Both teams seam pretty close!

NCC What the hell happened???

For the North Central offense 30 rushes for 79 yards will not get it done.  Sulo rushed 18 times for 58 yards.   Kudos to WashU in this game for taming an excellent back.

The silence from the Naperville faithful is deafening. I would be interested in any eyewitness reports from the game Saturday night. any takers?

If you check out the photo gallaries from this past weekend on the D3Football home page (Wheaton/Hope), you will catch a few pics of Zach Ullrich (#1) on the sidelines.  Very nice to see...

Great sentiment, 79jb, but an unfortunate choice of metaphor. ;)

In your opinion, why do you think that NCC didn't drop out of the top 25 after a loss to Wash U?

Short recap of Augie game:

Augustana 34, UW-Platville 24

Augie struggled in the first half allowing UWP to go up 17-10 at half.  UWP scored 3 points off of an early bad punt giving them great field position and then a TD when Augie fumbled in their own territory with about 1 minute left in the half.

Augie turned the game around completely in the 2nd half dominating on both sides of the ball outscoring UWP 24-7.

One interesting stat: Augie was 8-13 passing with 147 yards including one TD.

True Augie Alum.... We are waiting for your weekly blastling of Augie's team and coaches!

Carthage is home to both Augie and NCC (and, alas, IWU!), but has to travel to Elmhurst and Wheaton.  I feel like they are the greatest unknown (2 IBC opponents, though probably the 2 best, plus Whittier); we should learn a lot this Saturday, but I'm trying to pick today! :(

Carthage has only played 1 IBC opponent, Carroll is in the Midwest Conference.

:-[

(Thanks for catching that - for some reason my mind had their first game as CUW, not Carroll.)

Unfortunately I think all we'll get out of TrueAugieAlum is "I told you so... see I said Augie needs to move away from the lame wing-t and start passing more.  They did what I told them too and they won.  I should be the head coach!"

On 2nd thought... he wouldn't include the last sentence, because then he couldn't come on here are rip the coaching staff and schemes.

Probably only because the teams after them (UW-Oshkosh, Occidental) haven't been overly tested. If one of them has a standout win they're in a good spot to pass North Central.

Redlands is better than all three, in my mind, but the rest of the panel doesn't see it that way.

I'm still amazed at a stupid play call that cost NCC the game!  >:( >:(

Here's the play by play of the series in question in the 4th quarter:

N 1-10 N22   NORTH CENTRAL (ILL.) drive start at 04:33.
N 1-10 N22   Sulo, Dominic rush for 9 yards to the NCC31 (Machan, Tim).
N 2-1  N31   Sulo, Dominic rush for 3 yards to the NCC34, 1ST DOWN NCC
                  (Gialessas, Nick;McSparin, Tyler).
     N 1-10 N34   Sulo, Dominic rush for 2 yards to the NCC36 (Sensenich,Brent).
N 2-8  N36   Kniss, Kyle pass intercepted by Mulholland, Dan at the NCC33,
Mulholland, Dan return 19 yards to the NCC14 (Sulo, Dominic).

Wash U had ZERO timeouts left.   The clock was stopped at 2:36 after the interception.  Could someone smarter than me(which is pretty much everyone except Mugsy!  :P), explain to me why they would do this?   Two years ago NCC threw a pass against Wheaton late in the game that iced the game, but was very risky and I was highly critical of it even though it worked.  Well, I guess things even out, because this move cost NCC the game!!!!

Quote from: Mr. Ypsi on September 23, 2007, 03:36:11 PMSign of the apocalypse: Mr. Ypsi is more of an NPU 'homer' than "the most optimistic Viking fan"! ;D

I'm not quite sure what's led you to anoint me "the most optimistic Vikings fan", Chuck, but you'd best look in another direction than mine to find someone to fit that appellation.

There have been several posters in this room, of various loyalties, who've stated that they think that this is the year in which the Park gets off the schneid and wins a CCIW game. I have never been one of them. I've been pretty straightforward -- and quite realistic, IMHO -- in my assessment of NPU football in this room. This is what I have said in here on several occasions:

1) I think that North Park now has the facilities that'll enable it to approach parity with the other CCIW schools in terms of both recruiting and present-player development from a football standpoint;

2) I think that NPU now has a coach who has the vision, the plan, and the commitment to stick it out for the long haul and raise the Vikings to at least semi-respectable CCIW status;

3) Given the bare cupboard present when said coach arrived on campus a year ago last spring; the competitive strength of this league; the scope of what's required to overhaul a football roster; and the 16-ton weight that North Park is forced to carry around with regard to a gridiron legacy, I think that it'll take three to four years for the Pethtel regime just to be able to get the Vikings to a place where they're competitive on the field against other CCIW teams; and, therefore:

4) I did not, and do not, expect NPU to improve upon last season's record. I think that any improvement that the Vikings show this season will be incremental (i.e., fewer trainwreck final scores, and better statistical performances in losses than last year's team recorded against the same foes).

Coming into the season, I figured that the Park had a shot at pulling off an upset in three CCIW games: @ Millikin, vs. Illinois Wesleyan, and vs. Elmhurst. I think that any of these upsets is even less likely to happen now than I thought a month ago.

I will be surprised -- pleasantly so, of course -- if NPU can indeed win one of those games. But I've never kidded myself that it was likely to happen. As I said, if you want to find "the most optimistic Vikings fan", you'd best look elsewhere.
