Great Around the nation By KM this week!  I suggest reading it!  I love reading about the conference rankings!
Only comment is I would have put Carthage/Elmhurst as a game of interest.  This game could be a major factor in the CCIW this year! (side note... I am a self proclaimed homer, but this statement is not made because of it)
HEY NORM, I LOST YOUR HAT! GO REDMEN!!!

A lot of guys read while they play, and then sign up when they are done.  Not saying that is necessarily the case with Radio, but I know that I read religiously for the 4 years I played before I created an account for myself.

Al Gore had not yet invented the Internet when I was in school, so we didn't get to even be readers.

Haha!  I love it!  Since I can't give you an e-applaud, I'll clap for real...
I am a NATIONAL Champion, and I refuse to lose!

Because of the level of Carthage's and Elmhurst competition so far, I don't think this can be a national interest game yet.  If the Jays win, I think their matchup vs Augie gets some national press, assuming of course that Augie beats IWU.  Tough thing about that week is that it is Wheaton vs. the Naperville school and the Little Brass Bell game should get some attention.

If Carthage wins and can get by Wesleyan and North Park, their game against Augie would have a chance for national attention (assuming Augie gets by IWU, Elmhurst and possibly Wheaton)

I am sure I will get nailed for even commenting.....BUT having
my perfect Karma of 0 still intact...first of all let me say I love
the Karma "Parties"!!   :P    BP  it seems to me the less you
say about it the more likely you are to get zapped!!  Ha ha
At least you are amusing all of us long time readers...... :P

I still think my argument was valuable and encouraged healthy, CCIW related debate.  After all, witty responses coupled with statistical evidence are what make this fun.  It's interesting though, I received an instant karma shellacking during those postings.  (NOTE: I have still not recovered...-14 :-[.)  So, I need to ask, what's the incentive for healthy, CCIW related debate if as soon as you post controversial topic, your karma takes a hit?

Jedi Master Pat, help me out here.  What am I missing?

It has been my observation over the years that asking people to increase your karma with applauses -- or the reverse, complaining about smites -- is considered by many to be a breach of posting protocol, or even whining (regardless of the tone used by the person making the request). As a result, asking people to applaud you or complaining about smites often has the opposite effect -- they'll smite you just for asking for applauses or for complaining about previous karma hits.

I'm not saying that that's necessarily the case here, BP, but it's something to consider. Asking people to increase your karma -- or, sometimes, even merely bemoaning what you may consider to be an unjust series of smites -- can occasionally annoy (or goad) a reader or two or three into meting out what they consider to be punitive justice. A lot of it depends upon the personalities of the people who regularly read the room; who you've ticked off in the past; your school loyalty, etc.

In other words, sometimes it's not the argument itself that causes the most smites. Sometimes it's drawing attention to the fact that people are smiting you and that you think it's unfair.

(In case you're unfamiliar with the terminology, I should tell you that each poster with 200 or more posts has two karma buttons on his or her screen: "applaud" and "smite".)

applaud = +1 karma
smite = -1 karma

And, in case you're wondering, I've never altered your karma in either direction.

I agree with everything articulate here Greg, save the bold part.  ;)

For the record, I announce my +/- K. And most will tell you I am a +K kind of guy!

well said mb. the carthage/elmhurst game has huge implications for the CCIW race but not yet for the "expected" winners. When the winner of this game plays Augie, wheaton or naperville, it should attract some recognition.

I agree, after Elmhurst beats Carthage and then Augie they will get a little national press. ::) ::) ::)

Easy there Comet14,  the game hasn't even been played yet and you're giving Elmhurst the W?  Carthage is a very sound team with a strong defense.
On paper do I think EC matches up better?  yes
Can Elmhurst win this game?  yes
Will they?  Well, I am not jumping the gun.  This will be the best defense Elmhurst has seen all year, and the same for Carthage's Offense.  I think this game boils down to 2 things 1) Turnovers and TOP of course 2) Who's defense is going to create more opportunities?

I have learned both as a player and broadcaster, that you never want to jump the gun and think the game is in the bag, because 9 times out of 10 you end up disappointed in the end.

I look forward to a great game, great crowd, and a Carthage tailgate in the parking lot with tailgater  ;)  Saturday.

I am not taking anything away from Rocky Gingg. After last night He may in fact be the best running back Wheaton has. He also could end up becoming an all american AT SOME POINT. But there are a few guys in this league who have PROVEN it already over the course of a season or more and your comments seemed to me to be completely disrespectful of those guys. Dominic Sulo IS the best running back in this conference right now and that would be hard to argue. Marcus Dunlop is also a top running back and Josh Galliart from Augie (and Ryan McGinnis if you think the Augie qb is an RB in disguise) has also proven his value.

Usee, I agree it is way too early to say that Gingg is the best in the CCIW, but by the end of the season I wouldn't be terribly surprised if he is being mentioned in the same breath as Sulo, so you should hang on to this post so that when he does become an All-American you can say you called it first.  This kid is a D-1 talent and people around here are pretty high on him right now, so don't be surprised if he continues to see a fair share of carries and even climb to the top of the depth chart within the next couple of weeks.

In other Wheaton news...

I don't think this has been mentioned on here yet, but Aaron Reyes, the DE who transferred from Air Force tore his ACL in the Hope game and is going to need surgery.

Also, the new video scoreboard is up at McCully Stadium and looks amazing.  I am not sure whether it will be operational for the game this weekend, but it should be in time for the Augie game.

Given the way Reyes went down on the kickoff, you had to wonder if it was a season ending knee injury.

According to the letter Coach Swider sent out to the football alum, the scoreboard isn't supposed to be ready until the Augie game.

I hope you are right. I like the way he runs the ball. its pretty early to be handing him the keys to the car just yet.
