Great win by the Titans.  I was getting worried that our run as the only team in the CCIW with a winning record against Augie was not going to last much longer.  Is this the new trend in football, great D and just enough offense to win you the game?
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

I was in Wheaton for the game vs Millikin. The release and stats tell the story. I was not surprised to see Millikin play well and keep this close. They were working off 2 weeks of preparation and Doug Neibhur is one of the best coaches in this conference. Give a good coach 2 weeks to prepare and he will have a good plan, which he did. Millikin used a lot of rollouts, bootlegs and short passing to try and frustrate the Thunder D. it was effective early and the reason Ittersage ended up with 12 tackles was all of the short passes which he reacted quickly to and made the tackle. Millkin had no running game to speak of except for the scambles of their qb. The Thunder offense struggled through 2.5 quarters as the coaches seemed to be giving Norris and Bradley experience. Each time they used the running game it was effective but, although I haven't check the play by play to verify, it seemed they didn't go to it extensively until the second half.

The key to the game came with just over a minute to play in the first half. Norris pinned millikin with a punt to the 6 and Neibhur, trailing 3-0 and a minute to go before half (they had the ball to start the second half) decided to thrown from their own endzone. Pagh blitzed, wheaton got 2 pts and a safety as well as the ball. Millikin punted from their own 20 and 4 plays later wheaton connected on a 40 yd TD with 33 seconds to go. Neibhur cost himself 9 pts in a 3pt game. Very strange decision.

overall, wheaton has some work to do but they have a lot of players with valuable experience. Mckinney (the db) was back and made an impact. Pagh is back and played well. the 7 sacks is a big problem as the OLine seems to be trying to find themselves still. Rocky Gingg was not in uniform. the Thunder still has guys hurt but they are coming around, minus the key players lost for the season Mugsy mentioned.

The new scoreboard is awesome. the video replay screen is 12' x 21' and is Hi Def. they don't have Hi Def cameras yet so it may take a bit to see its real capabilities. Its huge and loud.

Great win for TitanNation in Btown yesterday. IWU's defense has stepped up. No matter what happens the rest of the way I am officially concerned for Wheatons trip to to Btown on the second Saturday in November.

I am really surprised at the success NPU had against the NPU defense. I think it shows primarily that NPU is making excellent strides in closing the talent gap they have long suffered in the CCIW, but even more I think it shows that the Naperville School's defense is more suspect than I thought. I wonder if they have significant injuries on defense?

Needless to say, it's bell week and we can let the festivities begin.

The turnoverfest in Elmhust surprised me a little. I expected the carthage offense to struggle with their qb situation unsettled, a new OLine and no real running game, but I am surprised at the lack of production by the elmhurst offense. they did score 24 of their 30 pts off carthage turnovers but they failed to control the game and move the ball consistently. that doesn't bode well for a long CCIW schedule. No matter, they are 1-0 and we will know a lot more  after this week's big road game in Rock Island.

The CCIW title is won in the big games on the road and there are 2 this week (Rock Island and Naperville). should the road team prevail in either/both, they will have the edge early in this title chase.

Mount Union maybe I understand, Whitewater is huge, the size of medium D1's so again, I kind of understand, I know nothing about Linfield.

Part of the nausea comes from the fact that its Wheaton too...

A good chunk of the funds for the new scoreboard came from Coach Swiders family and friends to honor his effort and work during his time at Wheaton.

I was thinking the exact same thing... it wouldn't be the first time IWU has torpedo'd Wheaton's season.

I heard about the new "megatron" that Wheaton got... I'm not going to lie, it kind of makes me sick, this is D3 football, what the heck!

Isn't Megatron the name of one of the Transformers? (Robots in disguise!)  :) ;) ;D

Only the leader of the Decepticons......  :D Portrayed differently in the TV show from the comic books.  On TV he always made a bad, hubris filled decision which allowed the Autobots to take advantage.  In the comic books he was significantly more evil and crafty.

I think the lack of a running game precipitated this decision.  That and the fact they had been eating the Wheaton defense alive with the 3 step drop passes.

true but it wasn't a 3 step drop. running game or no, you sit on the ball and go into halftime down 3 in that situation.
