Studebaker and Ittersagen get all the pub, but from the 2 games that I have seen the rest of the secondary has been doing a decent job.  Tyler Langs got torched a couple of times against NCC, but has definitely done a great job replacing departed "Abercrombie guy."  McKinney flies to the ball in general.  While they have had some difficulty with the quick routes early in the game an opponent can rarely stick with those routes all game.  If those routes get relied on they can lead to easy interceptions later in the game.

I think Wheaton will hold their own with Augie.  Although quarterbacks taking off and running has been somewhat of an issue this season, rarely were they designed runs.  Most of the time it was a broken play where the defensive line overpursued and the db's were downfield in coverage.

What impresses me most at this point is their depth.  They have lost a 1st Team All-CCIW OLB for the season in Mike McKinney.  Their All-American DE (Andy Studebaker) has been nicked up for a good piece of the season.  They lost another of the DE's for the season that was rotating in who was a transfer from Air Force (Aaron Reyes).  The starting strong safety missed 1 1/2 games due to injury.  The starting MLB has missed at least one game (Steve Pagh).  I'm sure I'm missing a few other injuries on the defense.  Despite all this the defense unit has played exceptionally well.  They've had a few periods of time where they looked questionable (like 1st half against NCC).

I know what you mean, "what could've been," but they seam like a special group because of their ability to keep play well even with all the injuries.... As much as it pains me to say, this is the reason why Wheaton is the class of the CCIW right now!   :P

3) Ittersagen is an early DPOY candidate in my mind.  An unbelieveable player.  Great coverage, sure tackler, and makes the big plays when Wheaton needs it.

Yep that's right i'm a dumb ass  how could I forget about him  :P

It all starts with Swider - he motivates, encourages and challenges.  He expects and gets the best out of his players.  He will not allow this group to feel sorry for itself just because they've had some adversity.

Fans of Wheaton, Augie, North Central, Elmhurst, Carthage, and North Park can easily do a double game viewing this weekend with the Wheaton/Augie tilt taking place at 6 PM.  Besides,  Pat and Keith will be at both the NCC-Elmhurst and Wheaton-Augie games.  I don't know if anyone will have the chance to meet them (I'm assuming they will be mucho busy).  Unfortunately, I'll be stuck 300 miles away.   :'(

Comet14-  Saturday is an unbelievably busy day for me.  We have a Cabinet Meeting early at 9am-11am.  Then I have to assemble the equipment and get ready for the broadcast.  Obviously the game,  then I have some other places and people I have to meet/greet.  I hope I can get some time to swing by and introduce myself.  I always look forward to placing faces with the screen names on these boards.

Pat- You're going to be at the EC/NC game?  Come on up and say hello to us in the booth during halftime.

Comet- I assume you will be drinking "apple juice" in the parking lot right?  :P
In all seriousness, the traditional thing most of us have done in the past is to attend Fitz's Pub in Elmhurst (just across the tracks and 1 street over) for the "5th quarter" hors d' ouerves and good times.  I will most likely make an appearance at some point after the game.

IWU and the CCIW get some publicity in this weeks Triple Take in the Daily Dose.  This week you will be either  ;D or  :'( depending on whom you root for between Augustana and Wheaton.

Thanks Bluejay for the invite. Maybe I can make it over to Fitz's for a loittle while. I usually have to take both my starving college students out to eat after the game, but we'll see. maybe I will come up to the booth before the game. About 11:30 are you too busy?
