Here are some of my guesses on this weekends games.  Some repeats from the Pickems board.

Carthage is a pissed off team that had their sights on another playoff run.  I think that the redmen will take it out on NPU for homecoming

A very good Augie team will roll all over an average Millikin team.  Augie will have 400+ yards rushing

NCC is on a roll with playoffs in sight.  I only hope that they do not take Elmhurst to lightly and look past them.  NCC will win in a close one

Almost always a good one between IWU and the Wheaties.  But this one will be a blow out by Wheaton.

So is Mike Tice, I mean coach Rucks, gonna have the redmen ready to play saturday or is this gonna be a close one against NP like it was last year?? 14-10 I believe was the final last year!!

I always thought Brian Billick was a better comparison, but yeas Coach Rucks will have them ready!

zorbadagreek:

Is that your attempt at bringing humor to the post board comparing Mike Tice to Coach Rucks?  Carthage had to face off against 2 of the top teams in the CCIW the last two weeks, and he had them prepared to play both games. They could have won either of them. The Minnesota Vikings don't even deserve to be on the field right now after the way they've been playing

zorbadagreek

Not only the way theyve been playing, but also the way theyve been partying. Wouldnt you have liked to of been a fly on the wall on the boat?? I wouldve! No disrespect to coach billick(Rucks), I always saw a similiarity between him and tice! ;D

Washedup,

When was the last time you were at a game? Did you see any last year?

I think i'm heading to Elmhurst this weekend for my first game of the year.  Law school is taking its toll on my ability to see games.

Come on now, friend.  When I was in grad school, I still made it to college football games on the weekend - and dragged my wife along - to what I called "the game of the week"; Elmhurst one week, Northwestern the next, U of Chicago the next, maybe a sneak back to Hope, etc., ect.  If I could do it, you can too! ;)

The new AFCA is reflecting more accurately the status of the CCIW (when compared with the Top 25 on this site).  We lead the poll in conference teams represented with 3, North Central at 12, Wheaton at 23 and Augie at 24.  The moves make more sense to me than do the ones reflected in Sunday's Top 25.

But then again, polls tend to be rather meaningless at the end of the season...

hiker, i thought the exact same thing. the afca also reflected the losses of the other teams a little better as well. conc morhead dropped and LAX as well. carthage moved down a little less than the d3 poll. i still think the relative positions and accuracy of the d3 poll are better even if the cciw is currently better reflected in the afca poll.

Pat Coleman

Well, shoot, if we suddenly declared Ohio Northern ineligible, the way the AFCA poll did, we would have three CCIW teams in the Top 25. Instead we have three teams in the Top 26. And the AFCA has Carthage one whole gosh-darned spot higher than our poll does? Bunch of quibblers you guys have become all of a sudden.

I'm not worried. We know what we're doing.

Pat,

i think some of this is attributable to how far wheaton fell when they lost to ncc. obviously we all knew ncc was a top 15 team but the pollsters didn't. so when we fell from #18 to #32 by losing to a "top 15" team it didn't (and doesn't) seem as equitable when LAX loses 1 spot and Cmorehead gains 1 spot in similar circumstances. (carthage dropped 19 spots in d3 poll as opposed to 14 in afca--of course you had them higher to begin with)

the voters were able to discern that LAX didn't have 2 "losses" (with one to a d2 school) but they weren't able to determine that ncc deserved to be in the top 25 and the wheaton/carhtage losses to them indicate strength of the conference rather than weakness of those two teams? (the cciw coaches thought more highly of ncc than any other team in the league by virtue of giving them the most 1st place votes). seems shortsighted to me. I can understand the LAX rationale by the committee because of their established strength of conference but the concordia morehead move doesn't make any sense. (i know they lost to the almighty st johns in the waning seconds and also beat them last year).

having highlighted the few warts of the d3poll i still believe very strongly it is overall a much better indicator than the afca. It' just that in this instance while viewing the world through the cciw lens (objective as we all are!!) it seems skewed.

"What great running game has Elmhurst Shut down?"
NccAlum62- I was referring to Elmhurst shutting down Bazacas for  most (not all obviously) of the game.  It wasn't until the 4th Qrtr. when the defense was fatigued (b/c of turnovers they were out there most of the game) that Bazacas and Wheaton were able to move the football effectively.  I think many overlook Elmhurst's defense which ranked 2nd in passing and rushing defense in conf.
I agree Wheaton's running game is not the same as Augie's or Wallick at MU.
USee-  Glad you were able to get the game on the Internet.  This is only our second year bringing the games via the Net.  Where are you listening from?
Looking forward to this weekend's "Bird Bowl", which no matter where the two teams are in the race, is always a fun affair. :D

I hate to say it Joe Bear I always thought Coach Rucks looked like Tice also.  I believe U Johnny and I discussed this at MU last year.  But Coach Rucks runs a much more respectable program.

We will always be REDMEN
