I hate to say it Joe Bear I always thought Coach Rucks looked like Tice also.  I believe U Johnny and I discussed this at MU last year.  But Coach Rucks runs a much more respectable program.

We might have discussed a lot of things at the game, that doesn't mean I remember any of it.  I do remember "Christie's"  :o after the game and the Punting contest in the Parking lot!

Tailgater,

Where do you usually set up for your tailgates?  Some friends and I will also be doing a little pre-game tailgate on Saturday also.  We were planning on getting started around 10.  Do they give you any problems parking there that early or leaving the cars there through the game?

Johnny, give me a call and let me know when you will be able to get there.  Mookie's dad is making a huge pot of Chili.  Can you get any of those Brat's that we had at Alma last year?

Jaybird,

Where is a decent place to park?  Last time i was there I parked way too far from the field.

jaybird- what are you talking about?? games in the cciw are won and lost in the 4th quarter. wheaton rushed the ball for 212 yds on elmhurst. that is not good by any defensive measure. out there the whole game you say?? TOP: elmhurst 30:34, wheaton 29:26.  they were in fact out there less than half the game. wheaton's avg TOP for the season = 30:46 so elmhurst was actually out there less than the other teams. wheaton is averaging 212 yds per game on the ground. rushing yds gained v elmhurst = 212. elmhurst averages 89yds per game allowed rushing and wheaton had more than double that. contrast that w wheaton v ncc when ncc averages yielding 147 yds on the ground and wheaton got.......211 yds rushing!

all this seems to indicate in fact that elmhurst is not as good against good rushing teams and wheaton is not the best rushing team. millikin and augie will pound it much more aggressively. elmhurst's defensive line may be better than average but there is no proof they can be deemed the best dline in the conference at this point based on current results. don't you fret, though, they will get their chance to run with the big boys.

Nice catch, USee.  I agree... while Elmhurst D is much improved over previous years, I have to believe they are ranking 2nd in the conference in defense due to who they have played to this point.  Let's see where they rank after facing Augie, NCC, and Millikin.  (To the Redmen faithful, I would included Carthage, but their offense doesn't cut it so far).

The new AFCA is reflecting more accurately the status of the CCIW (when compared with the Top 25 on this site).  We lead the poll in conference teams represented with 3, North Central at 12, Wheaton at 23 and Augie at 24.  The moves make more sense to me than do the ones reflected in Sunday's Top 25.

But then again, polls tend to be rather meaningless at the end of the season...

Polls are good for discussion on chat's and post boards.  They are good (for the most part) to gauge relative quality of teams.  However each has it's flaws and are open to opinion.  As far as I'm concern polls are necessary and those who run them do the best job they can, but the ONLY important factor for every team - win your next game, then the next, keep winning and you'll get the recognition and  respect you deserve.

WashedupCard-  I get there early (10:00)  and there is good parking just to the West of Hammerschmidt Memorial Chapel.  This is the building that is due South of the Football Field.  If you're not an early bird like myself,  you will find sporadic parking availability at the parking lot just to the north (across Prospect Ave.)  Parking has ALWAYS been a problem at Elmhurst, especially during class hours.  For the football game, your best bets are the West Parking Lot and North Parking lots.

Mugsy-  I agree that the 4th quarter (especially the last 5 minutes) is what makes it/breaks it for a team.  Time of possession certainly doesn't support my original point.  However, late in the 3rd and early 4th  Elmhurst had the 5 turnovers which prompted the defense to have to come back onto the field on short rest.
If North Central is to beat Elmhurst this weekend, I think it will be because of their passing game, not because of their running game.

Speaking of Coach Look a likes.  Anybody ever notice that Athletic Director Paul Krohn looks strikingly similar to Ron Turner.  Former U of I Coach and now Bears O Coordinator?

jaybird,
Not that it matters, but Usee was the one questioning the TOP, 4th quarter points.  Don't want to steal his thunder...  I just agreed with his point.

Interesting note:  The student that is going to sing the Nat'l Anthem at the Augustana/Elmhurst game in 2 weeks  Father is going to be my Color Analyst for that game.  My usual sidekick can't make the long road trip, thus I am have her Father accompanying me.  The dilemma is he is an Elmhurst Resident, and his Daughter is an Augie student.   :o

Who was the old Elmhurst coach who wore the Cowboy hat?

i remember him. wasn't he the d coordinator. i thot he wore shorts and his cowboy hat to a 30 degree snow game v wheaton

79jaybird

The guy that wore the Cowboy Hat each and every game like it was part of the uniform was Gary Roach.  Roach WAS the defensive coordinator while Paul Krohn was the Head Coach.  Gosh, we hated that d*** cowboy hat.  We always felt as players that he should try a game without the hat to see if we would win.  :P
