Whether or not you personally like the Coach Eash, you still have to admit that he has built consistently good teams for a long time.  It has been more comfortable as a Wheaton fan with IWU down the past few years (outside of 2005  >:()  but I think that the CCIW is better with a competitive IWU.

That is great news about Coach Arruza.    I agree with you MatBlake about Coach Eash that whether you like/dislike him, he deserves credit for helping to make IWU a tough program most years.

Nice recognition for Carthage's Matt Denny in this weeks Statistical spotlight

When you play games against a young offensive line you want those games early in the season. One of the challenges this week and next for wheaton and NCC is they are facing young offensive fronts late in the season when they typically perform much better. You see this in IWU's late season resurgence of their running game and Carthage's success at protecting the qb. I do think Wheaton's defensive front is the best in the conference that I have seen and that is without Studebaker. I haven't seen IWU's defensive front but I understand they are very good. It goes without saying these last two games for these 4 teams will be decided up front.

both Wheaton and NCC have a solid, experienced offensive line. IWU and Carthage have young offensive lines that are coming together at the right time. IWU and Wheaton have great defensive fronts and personnel and NCC and Carthage have defensive fronts that are designed to confuse and pressure, making it challenging to execute.

What's interesting about the NPU/Augie game is the fact that NPU now plays the 3-3-5 defense and will have the NCC blueprint on film in preparation for this contest. Since the game is at NPU and Augie has only its pride to play for it makes you contemplate the motivations for the battle of the Vikings.

NPU should be performing better defensively than they currently are if they 38 players on the field at once.   :P

You would think so but they are still searching for their first conference win. It was my prediction (against all Sagerian reason) they would get it this year and I am sticking by that prediction.

I was with you on the prediction that NPU would break their 0-fer CCIW streak this year...  I believe in the pre-season prognostications I had NPU at 2-8 with one CCIW victory.

While they have played better this year and have shown signs of promise, time is running out.

Not to many Norm fans in the CCIW, huh? Dare I ask why? I heard a few things from one person, but was wondering if the feelings were consistent throughout the conference.

Ask Cardalum for some Norm stories.  He has a ton.  Some he can tell, some he probably can't tell.  ;)

When was the last time Augie was 1-4 in conference?

A quick browse of the CCIW history and I would venture a guess of 1961 when Augie went 2-4 for the season.  1970 or 1978 would be a possibilities depending on how the matchups went as they finished 3-5 for the season.

Anyway you look at it... a very, very, very long time.

In 1978, Augie was 3-5 in CCIW play, according to the conference archives:

http://www.cciw.org/pdf/FB_Records.pdf

Right, but did they start off 1-4?  My point is Augie's season may be reaching a once in 50 year category...  bizarre.

Speaking as someone who was born in 1961, I have to ask you as emphatically as possible not to insinuate that 1961 was fifty years ago. :D
However, the North Park graduate of 1961 matriculated those hallowed halls fifty years ago.  ;)

I can't speak for Augie, but there's not much to contemplate in terms of motivations from the NPU side of things. I'm pretty sure that I know -- and that the rest of you can guess -- the three primary motivations for North Park's version of the Vikings to win this Saturday:

1) Break the 52-game CCIW losing streak;
2) Get out of sole possession of last place; and
3) Beat Augustana for the first time since the Nixon Administration.

If that's not enough to motivate a player, he ought to hand in his helmet and pads right now.
