Im not taking away from their defense. The d was very good. The offense was mediocre at best, and the special teams were spectacular. But the dirty play was very prevalent throughout the game in all 3 phases.

great week in the cciw.

congrats to the weenies for taking advantage of the thunder's miscues and grinding out a home win. that's a big shot in the arm for a program that has had a tough year. i personally would prefer to be 1-9 as long as the one win was vs norm and the weenies so this one has a particular sting to it.

a big win for ncc. winning on the road in the cciw is tough no matter where you play and to score 14 late to win is impressive against a better than average elmhurst defense.

augie's win at millikin really impresses me. shutting out those guys isn't easy and more impressive is shuttting down wallick. augie is poised to make some serious noise down the stretch.

as far as the race is concerned i believe augie is clearly in the drivers seat. they get elmhurst and ncc at home before going to wheaton. if they win both home games i believe they clinch the auto berth no matter the result at wheaton. ncc will not be able to handle augie's running attack so they should be able to control the game.

cciw- you asked about chupp and the wheaton team. while wheaton has had its share of issues across the spectrum i believe their problems rest solely on the poor play of their qb. last year he completed 63% of his passes while throwing for an avg of 255+ a game w 23 tds and 11 ints. granted he had the best reciever in the conference (and arguably the 2 best) but this year he is just not getting it done. he is comleting 48% of his passes for a 189 yds per game average and w 3 games left he has just 11 tds and already 14 ints. having seen him play4x this year i can say he has just been missing people. he has had guys open but he often over/under throws them. whether his timing is off or he doesn't trust the recievers will be where they should i can't ascertain, but clearly he is a different qb.

q-with all due respect i find it hard to believe iwu's defense had much to do with wheaton's woes saturday. chupp was 16-42. that is just awful. that percentage is bad and 42 throws is even worse... you can't let a qb who is struggling throw the ball 42 times in a game. and iwu is last or second to last in every defensive category in the league. now i wasn't at the game and wagner is a heck of a coach but i have a hard time believing this is anything but a qb meltdown.

i think the wheaton coaches should look real hard at a change at the qb position. this could get ugly fast.

This is what stood out to me in the North Central game, and why it didn't bother me that Wheaton dropped out of the Top 25 after that loss.

What a week in d-3 football action.. this is one of the best times of the year.  Some thoughts on the Elmhurst/NC game.

First, Congrats to both teams for another fierce, exciting "bird bowl" between two neighborhood rivals.  It is a SHAME that this great battle that was up and down for both teams, was decided by a few missed calls.
Second.  Kam Kniss is one *ell of a QB.  The difference today is that when he needed a score and a good drive, he made it happen, and unfortunately our guys just couldn't get that second score to put us up by 14.
Third, Elmhurst showed they can play with the big boys and are NOT the "cellar dwellars" that many people think they are.
Now for the missed calls.  The first one came when NC was down 21-14 and it was 4th and 20 something.  Basically time for the hail marry.  Elmhurst's #90 Matt Kelly was about to sack Kniss and was TACKLED!!!  Should be holding, well no call and boom 30 yard game tying touchdown.  O.K. not a big deal still 21-21.
Kniss engineers a great drive (that looked like a D-1 QB at the helm) to make it 28-21.  The second missed call was when Elmhurst was driving down the field.  Black Veldhuis #19  made a catch to put Elmhurst inside the 15.  He was ruled to have been out of bounds (thus making him ineligible).  Replays and video clearly show the NC dB shoving him out which would make him still a legal receiver.
Having said this, NC give them credit they made the plays when they had to.
The thing I am most proud of for Elmhurst is when they were down 14-0 early, they battled back and had a chance to beat the top dog (right now) in the CCIW.
Elmhurst be ready to take on the Vikings next week, and let's strive for 7-3!!

Actually, the call was offensive pass interference and not that he went out-of-bounds. As far as the penalties go, both teams got away with alot of holding calls, but at least it was even for both teams. The ball Kniss threw to tie the game should have been deflected by 2 or 3 bluejay defenders. I agree that Elmhurst is a pretty good team and should knock off someone in the final weeks.

I know this is a little early, but where is a good place around Wheaton to grab a beer and a burger.  Was planning on meeting up with some buds from Wisc and we need a good pub to meet at before and after the game.  Thanks

Muldoon's in downtown Wheaton is a Irish pub with good food and selection of beer.
(133 W Front St, Wheaton IL)

Alfie's is on Roosevelt Rd. in Glen Ellyn, just east of Wheaton (probably 2.5 miles from campus).  Probably the best burgers in the area, and has a variety of beer to choose from.  I'm partial to the 1/2 lb jalepeno burger.

A Beer Pub in Wheaton? If one truly exists I'd like to know about it too. All my years living in Glen Ellyn (next to Wheaton) Wheaton was notorious as a dry town. I do believe many of the newer downtown yupie style resturants have liquor licenses thou. Try Alfies resturant on Roosevelt road (Rt 38). East of President St. Good (Sir Alfie) burgers and many more menu selections with a full service bar. Very popular place as it's been around 35-40 years. You can take President St. north to Wheaton's campus and it runs by the football field. About a 10 minute or so drive.

Wheaton was a dry town up until about 10 years ago or so (I don't recall the exact year).  After that you could purchase alcohol in grocery stores, and restaurants could serve alcohol.  Still the steps required to get a liquor license was brutal.  As Glen Ellyn and Naperville have continued to improve and remake their downtown community, Wheaton has felt the pressure to do so as well.  There has been significant easing of the liquor license restrictions, hence an Irish pub in downtown Wheaton.  There has even been talk of a brewery in downtown Wheaton.  Times are a changing...
