usee, I agree.  A team with 2 losses would be tough to consider for post season, despite how tough our conference is.  Unfortunately, it appears we might suffer come playoff time, because we have beat each other during the season.
Would Mt. Union still be the #1 seed in the Midwest Region despite losing to ONU?  (Assuming MUC wins  their conference)  It'd be nice for the Purple people eaters to have to travel to IL for a change, instead of us always going to Alliance.

As far as Wheaton v Carthage goes, Wheaton seems to be missing that spark they had in recent years.  They just have made mistakes and not executed.  That being said, I think that the Thunder are due for a breakout game.  It is probably just my desire as a fan to see them win talking, but I gotta believe that Coach Swider will have them prepared after last weeks devestating loss.  Both teams now have nothing to lose.  Coach Rucks has been a godsend for that program.  It's going to be a great game, best of luck to both teams.

NCC_alum62

if NCC wins out do you think they would be the number one seed in the North Region and have homefield?

I know they still have tough games vs Millikin and Augie...not to mention NP who ALWAYS plays us with everything they have.  I am just asking the question if NCC runs the table would they be the #1 seed

augievike

I know alot of crazy things can still happen, but there was talk that augie might have made it last year if the 4 extra bids were allowed in.  They were 7-3 last year.  THis year i think that it is a good possibility that a team that is 8-2 would make the playoffs.

I don't think so, just because of the amount AQ in the region.  I don't know for sure.

Well said.  I think this will be a real battle.  Both teams are good and have not had the seasons that they expected.  I think that the key to this game will be Wheaton's D vs Carthage O.  If the redmen can run the ball, then I think they take the game.  Not an easy task against Wheaton.

Carthage has that big power back #40 I think he is 6'3 214 according to thier website...he was pretty good running the football against us...how has he fared against other CCIW opponents?

Monmouth is ranked ahead of Augie in the latest poll.  Confession:  I have not done any research into the Fighting Scots program.  Has their rise been steady like NCC's?  Is this a total fluke?  Has Monmouth ever been ranked above Augie?

If Auggie had not lost to Central in what looks like a close game score wise...(enlighten me if it wasn't) would they be ranked in the top 5 with the way thier defense is playing (21 points allowed in conference 86 total) and should they be ranked higher than they currently are with the way they have been playing?

RE: Monmouth

I think they have always been in the top two or three of thier conference but this is the first year in a few years that they have beaten St. Norbert which has been the perenial power in that conference.
2004 9-1 (lost to St. Norbert)
2003 8-2 (lost to St. Norbert and Loras)
2002 5-5
2001 8-2 (lost to St. Norbert and Ripon)
2000 3-7
1999 2-8

79jaybird,
I've actually seen Mount Union play in Illinois! It was 20 years ago. I haven't really looked too closely at playoff scenarios, but my gut feeling is Augie's chances of getting in the playoffs with two losses would be slim. I think the only time it's ever happened was in 1976. I realize the playoff format is much different now, but I still wouldn't be willing to bet on them getting in. Hopefully, we won't have to find out. As far as Monmouth goes, they're tearing up the Midwest Conference, which is not at the same level as the CCIW. Although, I have to say their champion, St. Norbert gave Augie a pretty good game in the first round of the '99 playoffs. My cautious nature makes me reiterate that it's still too early to be seriously discussing Augie's playoff prospects anyway. If they get past a tough Elmhurst team they've still got an undefeated CCIW front-runner in North Central and a road game against a Wheaton team that the Vikes haven't beaten in five years. Actually, until the Titans pulled the big upset this past weekend, I thought a 3-way, 6-1 tie was a reasonable possibility.

Thanks NCC.  I'll have to go to the Monmouth website to see where their players and stars (presuming they post press releases/news) attended HS.

I agree that would be good to see MU travel in the playoffs.
