Having made that brutal trip as a player...I can assure you that i will not be attending.

Unfortunately (sort of) I won't be able to attend either.  I will be at Gately Stadium at noon on Saturday coaching against the Caravan.  Hopefully we will see 2 big victories this Saturday!

Hopefully your fans can stay under control this week

That is pretty sad.  I'm sure Irish will have an interesting spin on that incident.

I'm sure there are two sides to the story. But I think any discussion of the other side ended with the disclosure of damaged or stolen equipment and injuries to a cheerleader.

While that was unfortunate and very classless on the GBN fans' part, there is another side to the story.

Can you elaborate? or is it something you cant discuss
Not that I can't discuss it, but I'd rather not post it.  I'm just glad that none of the athletes were involved.  Regardless, it should not have happened.  Pretty classless, like I said.

I work with 2 Mother's who's Sons were there.  The story I heard was that after the game, the Glenbard North players came over and started throwing uncapped water bottles at the players and fans.  This led to the Fremd fans having to exit the seats/stadium at a different location then where they entered.  While this was happening the Glenbard North players/fans/etc. stole the Fremd equipment and helmets.  Later they found out that the GBN people burned all of this equipment and Fremd is about to sue for the damages.  This is the story I heard.  How disappointing to hear or see this at a HS Football Game.   :-\

Wow - haven't read of this in The Daily Herald, or maybe I just missed.

For those of you who don't live in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, The Daily Herald sports department worships the ground that Fremd high school is built on, and thinks the sun rises and sets on Quentin Road in Palatine.  A little snobbish would be a giant understatement - still rowdiness and equipment destruction is beyond good manners.

This past season, when for the first seven weeks Rolling Meadows HS was the top-ranked 7A team in the state, there were many Saturday morning papers which had stories on Fremd on the back page of the sports section and their scores on the front page of the whole newspapers - and one Saturday where the Rolling Meadows story was included in a wrap-up of two other games.

And it hasn't been just this year ....

Congrats to North Central and IWU (a little louder) on their co-championship.

Expressions of sorrow, but congratulations for a hard-fought season to Wheaton, which almost succeeded despite an incredible rash of tough injuries to key personnel.

North Park fan (going back to 1965) and I've been lurking here all season - enjoying, what has been for the most part a good, civil discussion.

As for my alma mater (NPC C'69) alas, there is nothing there.  I've watched it 43 seasons now and seen only three head coaches (out of more than a dozen) who cared if their teams were competitve (Norm Rathje 1967-68, Bill Gourley, 1970-72 and Tim Rucks early nineties (look it up)).  I've probably seen more North Park football games then any person alive - well over 250, including 209 in a row, 1965-88, so I think I'm qualified to speak out.

This present regime is more of the same.

How can North Park expect anything but the same non-competitive results when they keep hiring the same type of coaches?

Beats me.

First of all, none of the Glenbard North players were involved.  Second of all, the water bottles that were thrown at the Fremd fans were the same that the Fremd fans threw at the Glenbard North fans first.  Lastly, Glenbard North fans were not without injury either, but, of course, none of that was reported.  As far as the equipment goes, I did not see any taken, nor do I know how anyone could get away with stealing a helmet.  Furthermore, there was a bonfire going on during the game at one of the houses that backs up to Weber Field, but I don't know how anyone perceived that stolen Fremd equipment was thrown in there.  Again, I maintain that it was classless on the Glenbard North fans' part to go over there in the first place, and the situation should not have happened, but that was not completely unprovoked either.

Wow, interesting to hear and you are much more of an authority on North Park than I am however.... I just have a hard time believing that Mike Liljigren did not care if his team was competitive.  I always thought he was a very good coach with no talent.  I believe this has been brought before, but I think that NPU has to be the hardest school to recruit to, that being said it is easier now than it was when Rucks and Liligren were there.

DennisPrikkel  Amen to your post about the Daily Herald having a tiara set in Green and Gold.  I went to Prospect from 1994-1998.  All we read about was Mario Dorsey this and Fremd being way above the (world).
Sakamoto is well known to not like Prospect.  During the run of 3 out of 5 state titles, do you realize it took the 3rd run for the title before the "Sad Sak" as I call him started believing in Prospect?  I mean, I can understand the first year having doubts, but the second and third titles?  C'mon.
I thought Rolling Meadows was going to go a little further than they did this year.
New Tradition- How are you?  Like I said, I was not there and only heard a Fremd-bias opinion on the matter.  Anyway you look at this, it is not pretty and doesn't belong in IHSA action.

Looking at the North Central/Franklin game.  I think the Cardinals have a good shot, but they are going to need a solid "A" game.  Franklin is no pushover and a fundamentally sound team out of the HCAC.   I think the real key is the play of Fanthorpe and Sulo.  I think NC's defense will control Franklin enough to give the Cards a pretty good to win the game.    I saw 2 North Central games this year and in both of those, the difference was Fanthorpe running A gap on QB draws setting up Sulo and the passing game as the LB's had to honor the inside running of the QB.

Very true.  I do wish a good degree more of sportsmanship would have been shown by both parties.  All that aside, I'm feeling pretty good right now, especially with the boys having a shot to take down Mt. Carmel.  How are you doing, bud?  Planning on heading to Franklin this Saturday?

New Tradition- I would love to go down to the game, would also be interested in calling that game, but I have to wait and find out what my plan(s) are for Saturday.  I am happy to keep the CCIW trophy in DuPage County.  Now we just need to paint that trophy blue!  ;)

I am doing well though and think the 2007 season went by way too quickly. I am going to miss not calling an Elmhurst game this weekend.  We just completed 7 years as play-by-play man, and everyday I look forward to going up into the booth whether it be home or away.

How are you doing?  Are you making the trip down to Indy?

Best, M

Nice comments.

I hope that NCC learned in 2005 that you need to bring your A or A+ game to every playoff game. They are just not at the level where your B+ game is  good enough. Maybe if you're playing the 8 seed. Hopefully, the seniors can draw on their two games with Capital to get their teammates ready for a tough matchup.

Maybe Ron Ellett(sp?) is available again?

Seriously, though, I think you are way off base.  Everything I have seen and heard of this NPU regime is better than anything that has been put out there since Rucks was the man.   There seems to be decent recruits and numbers.  The coaching staff seems to be fairly solid.  I know Pethtel is well thought of and Vandenbos is as good of an assistant coach as you will find in the conference, just ask some of the Wheaties.  If NP can keep the continuity of a coaching staff and a system, they are on the right track.
