BIG Orange -Florida Connection

My son played for a Private school in Maitland, FL just 5 minutes North of Orlando.

Millikin just updated the old locker rooms for now.  They are developing plans to extend the building on the visitors side the length of the field.  Placing new bleachers and have offices that have windows facing the field.

Lindsay Field is one of my favorite places to go on the road.  Their press box is very spacious, I like the  globotron on the north end of the field, and I love the fact that it is still grass!

Most of our Florida players came from the Miami and West Palm Beach area.

Alex Haan Class 4A all state QB from Chicago Christian has "committed" to the Cardinals!

Great recruit for NCC!!

I'm crying because I have been trying to get this kid at Wheaton from both ends.  I have seen him play and he reminds me of Chupp.   He has a great roll out.  He does everything very well (run with the ball and makes great decisions).  This is huge for North Central.
Congratulations I think.   :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

What kind of North Central Alum are you??   ::)  Actually, this one did surprise me with the Christian school background, that Wheaton wasn't more in the picture, although having his coach as an NCC alum had to help!!  Thanks Coach Vanderkooi!!

The word "Christian" isn't a generic description in the school name of Chicago Christian, CardinalAlum. For many high schools with that word in their name, including such Chicagoland institutions as Chicago Christian, Illiana Christian, Westminster Christian, Timothy Christian, etc., it means that the school is a part of the Reformed tradition and is affiliated with, or has close ties to, the Reformed Church of America and/or the Christian Reformed Church.

That's why so many of the kids who come from those schools -- including Alex Haan -- have Dutch surnames. North Park has a freshman basketball player who went to Illiana Christian (which is right in the south suburban heart of our fair state's biggest Dutch-American enclave -- there's a reason why there's a suburb down there called South Holland) named Nick Hoekstra. Tons and tons of Dutch-American kids go to those schools.

You're more likely to see a kid from a school that has "Christian" in its name go to Calvin or Hope than to Wheaton.

Which is probably an advantage in September and October, but disadvantage in November.  Those Florida boys sure don't like the cold!  But, for us Midwesterners...that's hittin' weather.

No problem. I also noticed that the NCC alumnus you namechecked who coaches at Chicago Christian is named Mark Vander Kooi. Yet another guy with a Dutch surname. :D

Always a lot of Vans and vowels in those Dutch names.

Redmen 04  yes,  the first Winter for the Floridians was quite a shocker.  Most of them, if not all,  had never seen snow and did not like the wind chills we are used to here in December and January.  What always made me laugh is that it could be below zero outside and the Floridians would be wearing sandals outside.

We never really had any Floridians.  Most of our teammates can from subs of Chicago and Wisc.  So the winters really were nothing new.  However that being said,  I was completely unaware how much colder it got in K-Town with that wind whipping of Lake Michigan. But then again this was a guy who thought it was a good idea tryout a polar bear plunge in January at 3:00 am.

While "googling" on another unrelated topic, I stumbled on another Florida recruit committed to Millikin.  Anthany "Spud" Wingo.
