Redman04, the funniest thing about your taking this NPU football player to task is that it requires someone to know the meaning of this gesture before he or she can scold someone else for doing it. ;) :D It's a pretty obscure gesture in terms of how many people know what it means, as compared to, say, the extended middle finger. This is proved by the fact that the picture never would've gone up on the North Park website if anyone in the NPU Office of Communications knew what "the Shocker" was. In fact, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that there isn't even one person who works in Old Main who can identify the significance of that gesture ... with the possible exception of Rob Berki. ;) :D

(Lest this be misinterpreted, I don't condone what the NPU football player did. But I laughed when my little brother flipped a bird at the camera during his sixth-grade class picture at the Christian school he attended -- although he didn't attend it for long once the yearbook came out -- so I admit to hypocrisy on the subject of immature male behavior when a photograph for public use is being taken.)

Funny story, a few years ago I was standing up in a good friends wedding.  The photographer took a series of about 30 pictures of the wedding party.  In every picture someone's eyes were closed or they were looking away...except for one picture.......the one where I happened to flash the shocker at the photographer.  The bride was none too happy with me.

Hello all, long time since I have last posted, but it looks like there are some interesting conversations going on....Only knock on Studebaker from the video...he couldnt catch a cold that day.   Thats a little mean because we all know that he will make those plays when McNabb or  Brady is throwing that pass.   He did look very athletic and when you compare him to the other top picks and their testing times,  its even more impressive.

Has Ittersagen gotten any significant looks heading into his senior year?

I doubt Ittersagen has gotten any looks yet, unless by scouts who where at the games in 07' to look at Studebaker.

That said I honestly think Ittersagen would probably have a better shot at the NFL level.  Studebaker is an absolute freak of an athlete, as seen by his pro trial.  But he is currently too small for DE at the NFL level - most DE's in the NFL are 270+ lbs.

Studebaker's tests may compare VERY favorably to Ghoulston's, but there is a significant difference.  Studebaker is not use to playing in space.  He is not use to playing like a OLB.  Ghoulston is.  That makes Ghoulston a "known" commodity for NFL scouts and general managers.  I'm not in anyway saying Studebaker is not capable of becoming a great OLB.  But it will most likely take a team willing to develop him.  Time will tell and I really hope he is drafted.

Ittersagen on the other hand has enough size (particularly if he puts on another 10lbs this year), he has adequate speed, and he is a very smart player.  He puts himself in the position to make plays.  Furthermore he is a very, very sure tackler, which a majority of DB's are not.  Perhaps most important of all (from an NFL perspective), he excels in special teams play.  A player who is not a superstar, sure fire draft choice, can really help his chances of making an NFL squad if he can be a strong special teams player.

It'll be interesting to see how things play out in 08' for both Studebaker and Ittersagen.  Will Studebaker get drafted?  If so, will it be with a team who is willing to take the time to develop him?  What kind of year will Ittersagen have?  Will he take it to the next level to the point where he garners some interest from NFL scouts?  (it can't hurt that Wheaton had the interest of NFL scouts this past year).

Just my thoughts... for which I'm sure others may not side with.

I don't think its too hard to project studebaker with another 20-25 lbs on him as a DE...he wouldn't play DE initially. he would be a 3-4 OLB. I can imagine most NFL teams want a 255 lb 4.6 40yd guy running down on a punt or kickoff.

Gholston played in a 3pt stance at OSU as a DE. no different that Studebaker. He hasn't played in space any more than Andy.

I don't disagree with this assessment, but again... this will take time and an NFL team will have to be willing to wait for him to do so.  Many aren't willing to take on too many "projects".

I'm basically ignorant on this one then... I was under the impression Gholston was an OLB at OSU.  My premise still stands... Studebaker is not use to playing in space and therefore that is a liability he will have to overcome if he is to make it in the NFL (at OLB).  I'm very much hopefully that he can and I'm pulling for him.

I'm also looking at it pragmatically...  he has an uphill battle before him.  I think he can do it, but someone needs to give him that chance and that isn't a given.

This happens every year. Gholston, Graves (from auburn), and the kid from USC are the top guys who are all in the same boat. The big difference between them and Studebaker is the level of college play. I don't think its any harder/easier for a studebaker to make the move to OLB than any of those guys.

I would argue Studebaker has a better chance than ittersagen. While I agree with your assessment of ittersagen, the problem is guys like him are a dime a dozen in the college ranks so its much harder to make it. On studebaker, there simply aren't many players who are 255 lbs and run 4.5 40yds. Studebaker's freakish numbers and physical skills. He also plays the most coveted position in NFL and everyone is looking for the "diamond in the rough" who can be the next impact pass rusher. That mystique will give Studebaker a much longer runway in his attempt to play on Sundays in my opinion.

Carthage Fan

I really hope Andy gets an opportunity.

I am also hoping something happens for Donovan Moore from Carthage and AJ Raebel from Whitewater.

Would love to see more DIII guys in the NFL, or even AFL and AFLII.

OK, now ,how are the Bears going to screw up today?   ::)
