Ittersagen is the real deal. He won't disappoint. He is as talented a db as you will see in D3 and he is a smart football player. There is no doubt he will be fun to watch. Not many teams will throw at him this year I would bet but he will return punts and cover punts in entertaining style.

I'll agree with usee here. I saw him play against NCC last year. He was real impressive. He is quite an athlete and makes plays all over the field, no matter what he is doing  (pass defending, tackling, kick returns....whatever).His outstanding play certainly helped Wheaton win that game last year.

Watched the first half of the Elmhurst/Lakeland scrimmage this evening.  Some positives and some negatives, but overall it was great to see some live action.
Coming into the scrimmage I did not know what to expect and had a lot of question marks.  Still have some question marks, but many question marks were answered.
Kudyba looked much more confident (less happy feet) in the pocket and threw some solid balls to D'Angelo.  The Jays' running game was decent, their #30 (don't know the name yet) showed some positive signs.
Defensively,  the D-Line did get some penetration on the Lakeland O, however LC did get some big time runs and a couple of nice TD passes.

All in all, it was a successful scrimmage and the coaches were able to get some good looks.

Jbird,

Is elmhurst running the 3-3-5 defense from ncc?

Thanks for the update.

79jaybird, I was at the scrimmage Friday also. # 30 is a Freshman not sure of his name yet either, but he looked good. Recievers looked really good and I thought the O'line played well. As far as the Defense The 2 starting corners did not scrimmage but overall I thought the defense played pretty well. They didn't tackle good most the day but hopefully that will come.

Usee- I saw a couple of fronts on defense for Elmhurst.  2 of the fronts did appear to be the same as North Central's.  I am guessing that throughout the year, we are going to see some images/schemes that NC fathered.

Comet14- You touched on the bright spots for Elmhurst.  I agree #30 looked solid.  I am just concerned about the defense because 4-6 years ago, we had a solid offense, but were murdered on defense with big plays.  IMO, you could have the best offense in D-3 but if you can't stop the run and put pressure on the QB, then you're going to be in some trouble.  I feel pretty good about Elmhurst chances in the non-conference, Olivet will be tough for sure.  In the CCIW I think Elmhurst is going to struggle a bit, because of the first year changes and graduation of the many seniors.

I'm going to be in Holland for the IWU @ Hope game Sept 6 - anyone else going to be there?  I'll be staying at Drew's Country Campground (4 miles north of town on US 31) from Thurs thru Mon - if anyone stops by to say hello, the drinks are on me!

As a Wheaton alum that is a very motivational invitation. I will strongly consider it.  8)

Don't know if you were serious, but since Wheaton is only scrimmaging that weekend (and, for all I know, it might be in Crawfordsville), I'd certainly welcome an assist in seeing the CCIW keep the MIAA in its rightful place!  And I'd love to meet a long-time fellow poster.

Uh oh, I hope none of my fellow Michiganders read this board! :P

Too late, but since I'm really a transplant, I'll let it slide this time.  ;)

If you haven't gotten Kickoff order it already!  It's got more features this year, including an article on Augustana's switch from the Wing-T.  Also an article on Wheaton's first opponent Bethel.  I also love the capsules of the teams, it offers some insight on the national picture, which is important come playoff selection time.  Lots of fun stuff like predictions too.

My question is would we really elect a DB (whose interceptions are likely to be few because no one throws near him) defensive POY?

Not that I have any stake in the matter  ;D

FWIW, I made it up to Holland this offseason to check out campus (didn't look for Coach Kreps though).

Ypsi, we'll have to talk Michigan sometime. Hit four MIAA schools in conjunction with my summer vacation.

Good one K-Mack.  ;)

On a serious note though, I think it could happen, particularly if Wheaton makes the playoffs again and he gets a chance to show his wares to a few more people.  The few times I saw him last year (both live and online) I was surprised at how many ways he could change the game, just by being on the field (allowing the defense to cheat, conservative punts by the opposing team, etc.).
